I LOVED *Firefly Lane* and I also enjoyed its sequel *Fly Away* (I would have been satisfied with the story ending after first book, but it was nice to read the continuation). Now about the Netflix adaptation... I was very disappointed 😩 The show seems to be more of its own entity that is just BASED on the book, but then goes off in different directions. I didn't care for the non-linear storyline of the series as that took away from the emotional investment in Kate & Tully that grew gradually through time for us in the book. The series didn't even touch on the very emotional ending of the book. So I would say if you plan to watch, don't go into it expecting a true adaptation of the book, go in with the mindset that this is a series that took the very basic plot points of the book and created a new story.

I haven’t read Fly Away but maybe I will now! Thanks for letting me know about the show, I’m so surprised that’s what they chose to do! I wonder if there will be a second season? I’m not sure I’ll watch it in that case, I was hoping it would be the same as the book and have all the same emotional power.

@@BelsBooks I’ve heard others who have read the book still say they like the series and if I wasn’t comparing to the book, I might have enjoyed it more. I’m also not a huge Katherine Heigl fan so I wasn’t buying her as Tully... However, young Tully & Kate were really good. And I did like how they gave a bigger role to Kate’s brother with a LGBTQ storyline. So it still might be worth a watch if you have the time... I’d hate to think my opinion would influence one way or the other 😉

@@Mano-Wan The book was all about Kate and her whining and how she would get her catharsis in the end..The series did a better job by presenting the characters equally. And the series covered only the 30% of the book and there were things that were exactly the same and things that were different because this is a tv adaptation and the changes were good for the drama. Tully and Kate were still there though and in the end of the season everything came full circle and closer to the book. And what exactly was the problem with the changes, especially with a sensitive subject like Tully's miscarriage.?! The readers are just snooty nitpickers who waited in the corner to trash the show and even before they watch the show. What a joke. Firefly Lane is freaking amazing with great acting, great music and full of emotions..And Firefly Lane is Kristin Hannah's creation and she was also the one who created Tully and she said that Katherine Heigl is the best Tully that she could imagine and that she was absolutely brilliant in it..So that's it..This is the best Tully that you can get..And she was right..Katherine was phenomenal..
