@6630mcdo How many A10's can we get for the cost of one F22? LOL. Still it is a beautiful aircraft and Im sure its effectiveness in action would be second to none but I agree, what a price tag.
the image they put up of a mig-29 is actually an f-16. mig-29 has two engines and two vertical stabilizers and looks more (though not nearly exactly) like an f-18.
"F117 maiden flight took place in 1981, and the aircraft achieved initial operating capability status in 1983. The Nighthawk was shrouded in secrecy until it was revealed to the public in 1988. The U.S. Air Force retired the F-117 in 2008, primarily due to the fielding of the F-22 Raptor."
Well according to the airforce competition between the the YF-22 & 23 the black widow(YF-23) had greater speed and stealth but the (YF-22) was more agile, initially they thought that the YF-23 was the way to go but once the proposition that "what if some one figures out a way to detect stealth aircraft, and what if the enemy develops stealth aircraft of their own and we go back to the age of dog fighting" all the advantages of the YF-23 will be useless because in a dog fight, the YF-22 beats it.
F117 tracked and shot down by old Russian radars in 1999? That's discouraging. I watched a Tom Clancy interview where he said "if u can see it, u can dodge it". I don't know how realistic that is although i respect the man.
@su35supaflanka Goodness, $2 billion is crazy! I'd rather have 67 F-15 Eagles...carriers are $4.5 billion wow! USA has 20 B-2's...$40 billion!!! I'd MUCH rather have 9 Carriers!!! or 1,330 F-15's
I followed the Stealth Fighter competition in the early 90's between the F-22 and YF-23, I will still maintain, the YF was a better plane all around, and I feel totally justified with all the damn problems with the F-22. Kelly Johnson is probably turning over in his grave over this cluster...
the F-22A raptor, cant fly in the rain, if done so, loses its stealth, due to moisture.. for every 300 hrs, of flight, 1 month of maintenance.. meaning 2 hrs per 1 hr of flight.. the production of the F-22A has been cancelled.. though it requires parts to be made in 40 different states.. meaning politically immune (jobs = money).. 2010, Chinese, Russian vs F-22A (Computer simulated operation wargame), by the US, stated... F-22A, was outpaced on all areas.
@Talshet Well I'm afraid they can't. Even the best of those radars could only track the F-22 at about 4km, which renders them basically useless. Stealth aircraft CAN be detected. But where normal aircraft would be detected at 200km, stealth aicraft get detected at 5km. This is why Russia is trying to develop PAK FA, to get in on the game.
Come on Discovery ! How can I believe what you're selling if you put a freakin "MIG 29 Fulcrum" on an F16 footage? 99% of what you're presenting is public knowledge. The other 1% is just insignificant nicknames of those aircraft!
@Talshet Eh only one F-117 was shot down in Serbia- and that's because it nullified its stealth capabilities by leaving its bomb bay open. Please, stop deluding yourself. In Serbia the B-2s passed over all day long without being detected or locked on to, and so did all the other F-117s. It was an isolated incident. As of today, no radar in active service will be able to lock a B-2 at more than 5km distance.
@6630mcdo 40 billion is nothing compared to the 7 trillion in debt B.H. Obama has racked up in the past 3 years. At least we have something to show for the 40 billion spent on the F22's. We got nothing to show for the 7 trillion BHO added to the deficit.
@deestilo Yep, Discovery screwed the pooch on that one. It rather weakens the integrity of the show by misidentifying an aircraft like that. It reminds me of the cold war era when hollywood regularly used F-5's and Mirages to represent Migs. Some of the cheaper b movies still do this. I cringe everytime.
@mpaszti Learn economics!?!? Reagan "inherited" double digit unemployment and inflation and a malaise the country had not felt since the great depression. He turned it around by cutting taxes, not increased spending. Yes, he increased military spending which ultimately resulted in the end of the cold war. SO your solution to a bad economy is increased govt spending. Wrong!!! Where do you think the govt gets the money to spend?
yeah, well it's not quite delicate, just few pieces more like souvenir, some metal, got few marks on it, nothing special, just as i said souvenir :) and yes the goverment took most of it i think, it is displayed in museum on Kalemegdan fort in hearth of Belgrade
