each time i see the SR 71, i smile in astonishment. That black bird is the greatest thing that ever flew in my opinion. I mean flying at the edge of space, outrunning anti aircraft missiles, etc
But it was still partially stealthed using iron-ferrite paint. And there were missiles that could catch it (AIM-54 Phoenix), but the Soviets didn't have them. They did have missiles to take down the SR-71, but they used nukes, so they, for obvious reasons, couldn't send those up.
The Soviets had air-to-air missiles of similar performance to the Phoenix. The chances that ones of theirs or the Phoneix would have to overtake an SR-71 before running out of fuel is slim. Same with ground launched SAMs. The SR-71 could just accelerate away.
I agree that the Blackbird represents an outstanding achievement i aerospace engineering. That said, even it is vulnerable to modern SAMs such as the S300 and now the S400 family. I speak as a non expert but more modern fighters with their attendant missiles are not as limited as the former soviet interceptors and could also threaten the blackbird. No doubt its a wonderful plane though

The Horten Go-229 was very advanced but was designed with speed in mind not stealth. The idea that it was a stealth design is a comparatively recent myth. Northrop was developing flying wings at the same time as the Horten brothers for the same reason they did: a clean design that provided maximum speed and range, not for stealth. Google N-9M and YB-35 and especially watch the youtube video "Horten Ho 229 Replica Built by Northrop Grumman"
@Antifaith29 1. mach 3.2 mig's were relegated. Those were the first and they couldn't handle those speeds due to tensile stress on engine and body lol. 2. 100,000 feet? where did you get that? source please. 3. What is the range of the the mig's best armament? 4. Again, it's similar not SIMALER 5. I apologize if i mixed you up with someone...you get that one
@charms71 No, i said it can do that and shoot down an enemy plane. I didnt say sr 71. The very basic fact is that the mig 25 is capable of mach 3.2 , is reported to have a ceiling of 100k + ( although ive only ever seen 92.5 thousand. Not once did i say it out performs the sr 71 ( infact i challenge you to find where i said that). My premise was that it can do simaler things to the sr71 and it is weapons platform capable. YOU chose to get all riled about about your missinterpretation.
"Lockheed Have Blue was the code name for Lockheed's proof of concept demonstrator that preceded the production F-117 Nighthawk stealth aircraft." "The aircraft's official name is "Night Hawk", however the alternative form "Nighthawk" is frequently used." "As it prioritized stealth over aerodynamics, it earned the nickname "Wobblin' Goblin" due to its alleged instability at low speeds. However, F-117 pilots have stated the nickname is undeserved. "Wobblin' (or Wobbly) Goblin" is likely a holdover from the early Have Blue / Senior Trend (FSD) days of the project when instability was a problem. In the USAF, "Goblin" (without wobbly) persists as a nickname because of the aircraft's appearance. During Operation Desert Storm, Saudis dubbed the aircraft "Shaba", which is Arabic for "Ghost"."
@charms71 One more thing, are you sure it's me saying the Mig is better? Scrolling down a little i see someone called zhangjingfei94 making that claim. Did you perhaps mix us up?
@charms71 Maybe this link is interesting for you. nasa.gov/centers/dryden/pdf/88796main_YF-12.pdf And you are right the Mig25 and not even the Mig31 is comparable at all. Greetings from Germany Thomas
My family laughed when I told them I would lose fat with "Epic Lean Body", but then they saw the results. Google "Epic Lean Body" to see their reaction. (It was epic!)
@Antifaith29 airframe does not translate into ceiling, climb, armament, versatility, etc. I'm talking facts , you are talking semantics. Please disprove my stats.
@charms71 I dont need to disprove your stats, i think you're looking for an argument where there is none. I agree with your " stats" , guess you'll have to nerd rage at someone else, kiddo. Im saying the foxbat is almost as good ( and it is) and it can fire missiles if it wants to. It's no big deal , you dont have to get all worked up at it, you might drop your pocket protecter filled with pens. Im not talking semantics at all. The Foxbat CAN to edge of space flight, thats a FACT.
@charms71 lmao , alrighty. I'm not sure why you're getting so angry about this. Ive seen it happen and you can too, just watch the video i linked. This really isnt a big deal, champ. Perhaps you should seek help in managing your anger. What's the big deal here? Go out, find a girl ( or boy if that's your thing ) turn down the stress levels or something. You're getting a little upset about something that really doesn't matter all that much.
@Antifaith29 arguing with children? I hope to maintain my argument on facts when I reach your age and to not resort to insults when I lack facts or knowledge. The pleasure was all mine old man. out.
@charms71 Might want to find someone else to have your nerd rage back and forth stat war with. I dont need stats, ive seen it happen. watch?v=K1GE_qKsZMs
My country refuses to release the official record of how many times a stealth aircraft was tracked by radar as well as tracked by radar then fired at. *So what does that tell you. In my opinion it's not very stealthy.* "Its maiden flight took place in 1981, and the aircraft achieved initial operating capability status in 1983. The Nighthawk was shrouded in secrecy until it was revealed to the public in 1988. The U.S. Air Force retired the F-117 in 2008, primarily due to the fielding of the F-22 Raptor." *It obviously wasn't very stealthy or else it would have stayed in service.*
