@@acester86 Plus it doesn't matter how good your microphones/speakers are because it'll just sound terrible. Sounds as loud as this actually vibrates your internal organs, and that's something that cannot be replicated fully with speakers.
Right he should've pointed it more towards the right so u can see the entire fire ball and get a better camera I'm pretty sure that was the camera that photographed the last supper (CIRCA APRIL 1ST AD33)
I was aboard when they fired 3 inch 50s on the LPH-2 Iwo Jima. I opened the hatchway as it fired and it slammed it shut and threw me back hard. I couldn’t imagine what 6 18s would do. Other than blow my ears up.
I had the Awesome opportunity to experience that show of power while serving in south East Asia when it was positioned not too far off the coast of the base I was assigned too. It fired some volleys directly over our heads and you could actually see the huge rounds traveling over head through the moon lit clouds over head. The deep rumble and the beautiful display of long, bright blasts of flame extending from its muzzle’s was a sight I’ll never forget. “Get Some”!
July 4 1983 (if my memory serves me right) she did the fireworks that night on the way to P.I. ...my ship was about 1mile to her stern and we could feel the concussion back that far...it was an awesome display of WWII technology and firepower
Just before the start of the BATTLE OF THE DENMARK STRAITS the gunnery officers in the PRINZ EUGEN looking thru their range finder could not identify the ship in the rear of the line(it was the HMS PRINCE of WALES) but one of them identified the lead ship as HMS HOOD. The other officer thought it was BS and that it was a Heavy Cruiser instead and bet him a round of schnapps. They also told the gunnery crew to load their 8" guns with anti-personal shells. It was only after the HMS HOOD unleashed it's first salvo that they looked at one another and said "THOSE ARE BATTLESHIP GUNS"! I guess battleship guns make a distinct sound.
Ryan has said in some videos that doing that would break windows across a large area of Philadelphia. Something tells me the neighbours would not love it.
@@JustSomeCanuck I know, there were 16" guns south of Portsmouth, NH during WWII, the guns are maybe still there, or just replicas, I'm not sure. When I was a kid they had a museum and tour, those guns were only fired once because they broke windows for miles and knocked dishes off of shelves. No one was supposed to know they were there so the government at the time had to deny everything.
Haha! yep, last time they made the charges for these in the 80's it was aprox. $50,000, today more like 120K, per shot, guessing the museum doesn't have that kind of budget ;)
It is said that it would take 2 years and 2 billion dollars to bring back each of the of the Iowa class battleships into to active service. In hindsight it would have been a good idea to have made permanent covered dry docks for these battleships when they were decommissioned in the early 90s. That way they could be activated when needed within months or weeks instead of years.
You say that Big J has been retired. However, if Big J was retrofitted to launch missiles out of those guns, Big J could be a modern warship with modern firepower
@BattleshipNewJersey I mean a missile designed to be launched out of the 16inch tubes. Big J was retired because there's no supply of 16inch ammo, so make brand new 16inch missiles for the 16 inch tubes.
The gun sounds of World of Warships simply sound so... cartoony in comparison. Don't get me wrong, I love the sound design on those blasts but this! The sound waves alone would feel like a massive punch to the chest if you were anywhere nearby.
With rocket assist artillery shells it would be cool if they brought back big naval guns Obviously a 16 inch is ridiculously impractical but like a 8-9 inch gun , cheap ammo quick reloads
If the 406’s are that loud, imagine Yamato’s 457’s. If the war had gone on I’m sure they’d have probably put 460’s on something which would’ve been even more impressive
Just the shock wave from those cannons on that ship of war will knock the wind out of you within 50 mtr unless you are prepared for a full broadside.. Those on the receiving end well it's on to the next life🤔.
I can't think of a downside to three independent guns besides being a bit more maintenance intensive, but the increase in versatility would make up for it. There's a reason they decided to implement 3 independent guns on each turret for all the WWII era battleships.
I wish these old girls could go out to sea and we could pay to watch those guns roar. Its a shame that it would be financially impossible for that to happen.
Please don't fall into the trend of vapid TikTok / short content. We watch this & learn nothing. When is this? Who filmed it and why? And how did this become a cursed vertical video.
Ok, so these ships are old old….but if you park one off of China or North Korea….they would shit their pants. This is a show of force…!! You can’t stop a 16” shell…..but you can jam the radars on a missile..!!
No you can't. I guess recording techniques really matter. Just ask Mark Knopfler or Steely Dan about how to do it. It's still cool. They are 16 inch guns.
Sounds extremely artificial, like from a computer game. More like a sythesized sound than real artillery. Given the silence and the unnatural fading at the end i'm pretty sure the sound isn't real.
That be an original recording of it firing but I’m here to tell you no where even close to what that powerful sound is really like not to leave out the felt shock wave.
I SAW VIDEO ONCE OF BATTSHIP DURING WW 2 WHEN SAILOR WAS SPARGING THE BARRELS OF A BATTLESHIP DOWN BECAUSE THEY GOT TO HOT ! 👍🥴👌 I'D LIKE TO SEE AGAIN 👍✌️🤗👌
