4th grade is really a sweet spot. They're still little and love all the primary things, but they have the independence and stamina. 4th graders are work horses and are very motivated and goal oriented. Push them hard and they'll surprise you and themselves with what they are capable of. Ending up in a grade band that isn't your favorite is honestly such a blessing. I'm down in 1st grade again and I'm a much more intentional teacher now that I understand where they're going and where the common gaps are. Happy teaching!

I'm moving to 4th from 1st grade, and I have the scoop chairs. I'm so glad you said 4th graders still fit in them! I didn't want to get rid of mine

@@sophteachestinies What are some interests/things your 4th graders were obsessed with? I'm familiar with 1st grade interests but not as much upper elementary interests (I know it depends on the student/group but just general interests/TV shows/hobbies)

@@sarahp444 ok so I was prepared for first grade and then had no idea about fourth but honestly they like a lot of the same things first graders like. They loved mini erasers. They were obsessed with buying them at class store. We called them desk pets. They also love technology and listening to music. I had them fill out a Google form and made a class playlist. My class also loved playing telephone, four corners and heads up seven up

Hi Sophie! I'm also a 4th grade teacher. Something I've learned (I'm in my 7th year) is whatever you do with them is what they'll know. Even if other people think it's "baby-ish" your kids won't know any differently. I do things with my kids that I have seen 1st grade teachers do, and my kids LOVE it and they have no idea. 😊 You're doing great!! :)

I was just put in a 5th grade class for senior year internship and I was also so nervous about how big they would be and they are still little in the beginning of 5th! At least in the class I was placed in. I surprisingly am loving it and I came from 1st grade internship last year which I also ended up loving. So it was a big jump!
