I'm one of those beginners you're talking about in all of your videos when it comes to mistakes. Of course I mostly got myself mostly super hots. Of course I started (more?) early. Exactly one month ago. Of course I underestimated the germinating rate. Of course I put all the seeds of one type into a single germination pot, so now I have to wait for "all" off them to grow before I can remove the cover. Of course I already potted up nearly all of the seedlings because there are multiple in each germination pot. And of course I watered them with quite low concentrated fertilizer twice already... BUT I'm quite happy regardless of all the mistakes I made. I planted 153 seeds and got 87 seedlings/plants so far and I'm super stoked about how they'll turn out. It's not a super high germination rate, but It's by far more than I thought I'd get started to beginn with. Scratching my head while thinking about where to place them later on... Some seedlings just started peaking out of the soil while others are like 10cm high (or better "long") already. Especially Jalapeno germinated a lot and are just stupid long by now. Nearly all plants have their first set of true leaves already but nothing more. Now I just need to keep off at least one of the covers so the plants can breath and probably got to find some fan.. Looking forward to the next video, which I ovbiously need really soon :D

Those seedlings are only 30 days old?! Man do I have a lot to learn from and improve on. My seedlings seem to be healthy (after dealing with some legginess) but seeds sown on Feb.3 are just developing their 2nd set of true leaves. I've been worried that I started my seeds too early but after seeing what yours are like after 30 days I may be wondering if I started too late lol. Thanks again for your incredible videos!

@@ChilliChump you could make (for fun, but not only) kind of an "ASMR" video (or a serie) on chilis, speaking with a seraphic calm, slowly, with a caricatural Barry White voicing, explaining the origins of chilis, their organic specificity as a solanacee, the story of their world-spreading, their chimics, their effects on taste receptors, their cultivation techniques, their diseases, their famous receipes, and so on. Just moved them to the mother in law's house as she has a conservatory on the southern side of her house. First true leaves on all peppers, golden harvest seedlings are far and away the biggest ones at this point. Gorinitsch and Czech Black are also doing rather well. I just hope the move pays off as it tends to get rather chilly at night still, down to around 12°C. If the seedlings manage well with this decrease in temperature I'll be primed for a rich season, wish me luck Shaun :) Also thanks again for your great content.

Thanks CC, it's good to hear that so far, I'm doing it right, although, here in the south of France, I'm a couple of weeks ahead of you, hope I don't make a major mess up before your next post. I've just put a min/max gauge in the greenhouse to see what it tells me as I'm running out of room and I might have to take a chance, wish me luck 🤞 One thing that's worrying me, although my seedlings are looking great, they are not growing at all after the first pot up, they seem to be stagnating. This happens to me every year and I don't know why.

Like I mentioned in the video, the plants need to adjust to their new environment after potting up, and there is a balancing act between the growth above and below the ground. With potting up, the roots will be doing a lot of the work in the beginning to establish the plant.

Really Love This Series! Third year growing and I still learn new things. I have a little question for you, which might be better for the next episode but I'm impatient 😅: For the first year I'm using some artificial lighting for my plants and since many people recommended LED Light Bulb as a cheap solution I ordered a bunch of 13W 6800K Bulbs. Thing is my plants are growing nearly as fast as yours do, is there something wrong with the lightning I choose?
@ChilliChump
@ChilliChump 2 года назад
The quality of light and the light spectrum will make a big difference. At 6800k you are edging out of the optimal spectrum so even though your lights may appear bright to your eyes the light won't all be usable by the plants. I will cover this in a lot more detail in the next episode!

Great set of videos I keep coming back to 👍 in general, for most plans, what size pots do you start from and through each year? Do you tend to reuse your pots too? If so any chosen cleaning methods you personally adopt?
@ChilliChump
@ChilliChump Год назад
I reuse my pots each year. Can get expensive if you don't! Some get binned if damaged etc. For cleaning, diluted bleach, big tub, and rinse them all out. Pot sizes depend on the plants I'm growing. Generally end up in 10 or 12 litre. With 2 to 3 potting up before that.

They're behind a very big sunny south window, with ambient temps at 20° when the sun isn't out. Are cayenne just that much more prolific, or do you think I might be doing something wrong?

Do you have a good method of making the plant flower without adding any fertiliser? so far I search, dont feed it water and sunshine.

Managing pot size is probably the best way to get the plant to push flowers. If the pot is too big, then the plant will be focussing on getting bigger, not putting out flowers and fruit. ru-vid.com/video/%D0%B2%D0%B8%D0%B4%D0%B5%D0%BE-Pf2rE3mJTM4.html

Hi Shaun! I used capillary matting to start off my seedlings. They have sprouted cotyledons, but are taking a while longer for any true leaves to come-haven't seen any yet... Should I be taking the matting out to let them dry out between waterings at this stage, or should I leave it until they get some true leaves coming out (fingers crossed) before I let them start to dry a bit? (They got a bit leggy when they sprouted due to me not giving them light soon enough, so they seem a little weak and feeble currently... :/ Thanks for the seeds though. very nice video, im having trouble getting past this stage. once my peppers get to about 8-12inches high they just start dying, or stop growth compltely??? Nothing changes, im a Brit now living in every day sunny Singapore so there is plenty of warmth, sunlight and shade as they hang over a ledge on the 13th floor of my hdb which is like very nice council flats but everyone owns their property. Sorry just context. Something ive tried after 2+ years of exactly the same o and the same happens to my apple and lemon plants grown from seeds. so what ive now started with and getting further is self watering pots. the are a double pot with a thick string wick and this seems to keep the soil watered just right. An issue ive found over here is over and underwatering is a big pain in the butt so i saw these pots and thought why not. only at the stage now ive been with my past failures of between 8-12 inch tall and never any peppers. Also all the leaves have fallen off again but the main diffrence is the main plant stalk is thicker and very green with lots of new growth at the base. So now i have cut all stalks to half size and am crossing my fingers. any thoughts or advice would be great. Regards Chris

Help! On 2nd packet of chocolate habanero, now day 16 and still nothing - they're indoors in heated propagator (I'm in Devon,UK). Any suggestions, tips before I embark on pack 3? ps. did soak in tea before planting. Loving your videos and just looked up some of your hot sauce recipes which would love to make but need some hotties to germinate!

Are you following this video of mine? ru-vid.com/video/%D0%B2%D0%B8%D0%B4%D0%B5%D0%BE-uySAdjWVWlE.html Also just put out an article that should help chillichump.com/super-hot-chilli-pepper-seeds-complete-guide/ If you are...then I would suggest testing the temperature of your soil in the propagator. Some propagators aren't too effective and don't raise the temperature high enough. If you can get it up to around 28'C, maintain moisture, then you should get sprouts after about 7 days.

Hi Shaun! I planted some seeds and they sprouted well but I put WAY too many in a small space. They aren’t quite ready to be transplanted but I see the first true leaves sprouting, I’m worried about disturbing the root system too much when I transplant them. Any advice?
@ChilliChump
@ChilliChump 6 месяцев назад
Hi there! Firstly, congrats on good germination! I prefer not to handle the chilli seedlings until they are quite a bit stronger. But if you need to transplant...then I would loosen the soil around the seed roots, then gently jiggle the seedling out of the soil by lightly holding the leaves....don't hold the stem, because if that gets damaged it will die.
@maddypape
@maddypape 6 месяцев назад
Thank you for the response! Would you recommend leaving them until it's time to transplant? Or is there a risk to that?@@ChilliChump
@ChilliChump
@ChilliChump 6 месяцев назад
The risk is that the roots will be intertwined and could set your plant back a little after transplanting compared to a plant that you didn't disrupt the root system.

If the room is at 21c then the fan would just circulate the air and maintain that temperature. My only other guess is that you have used seed starting soil or some sort of compost that has water retaining additives. Like I mention in episode 1, this is not ideal at all

Mine even at 1 foot tall have stems like your seedlings at the 0:45 second mark and i have to stake them just to keep them upright while watering. I'm going to guess and say this is 30 days from germination, not planted. Chili peppers take between 1-2 weeks, even with a heat mat and humidity dome. No way that the plants with multiple levels of new leaves are only 30 days old. I would guess those are 40-50 days old at a minimum in the video.
