6'9" M spinning rod 6'10" M/M-F casting rod (specifically the Shimano Zodias or Expride on this one) 7' MH/F casting rod 7'-7'6" H/F casting rod 7' MH/Mod or Mod-Fast casting rod About the only common techniques that you won't have covered there are frogging, punching and bigger swimbaits. That Shimano 6'10" M is one of the most versatile rods I've ever used. I have two of them and at least one of them is on the kayak with me every time I go out. Often both of them. They are my go-to for jerkbaits and most topwaters, but they do great for spinnerbaits, underspins, light Texas rigs and finesse jigs, shaky heads, weightless flukes and stick baits and a host of other things. I have Shimano SLX MGL 70 reels on them spooled with 20# braid. I swap out the leader depending on what I'm throwing.

I have 5 rods, all Shakespeare 'Ugly Sticks', around 35 bucks each, matched with entry level Shimano Reels, and I catch a lot of Bass, Walleye (and almost one Musky)! Just give me my Wally World Hooks and Yum baits and Im out on the lake. (Have kids to feed also). And yes, I loved your video, I take the specs you and others recommend then match something Shakespeare and Yum provide at my local store.

One that I use quite often and really like for cranking is a Lew's Custom Lite 7'2" medium moderate fast paired with a Lew's KVD1X 8.3:1. It belongs to my son, but I love it. Thanks for the information you shared. I enjoyed the video!

I spotted a SG akylos 😁 love those rods...for the wearing grips, you can get some 25-30mm heat shrink wrap...cleans it up nicely. Cool video man. My favorite technique are spinnerbaits. I use a 7' M-MH fast depending on weight, 6 spd reel on copolymer line.

A Johnny Morris carbonlite 7ft MH fast with a lews hyper mag 300 size will do about 90% of anything youll throw for the other stuff run a 7ft medium fast for your hard baits fluro for the Medium 20 pound power pro for the MH setup you can toss a 10inch worm a mile on the MH setup running braid and get those fish out of cover

Talking about rod selections brought back memories I started with a 5 and 1/2 ft pistol grip berkley stinger rod with a bantam 10 reel Shimano a great reel biggest fish I caught on that was a 24 lb striper using 10 lb test stren line back then the bass out here or pound and a half to two and a half pounds 3 and 4 lbs were big fish I have so many rods now it's unbelievable just like most everyone else but I have five rods and reels that I use all the time and that's it that set up was given to me my friend of mine that was sponsored by ranger first rods and reels I bought were Shimano reels for d Thomas flipping stick any Phoenix flipping stick still still have them sorry for being a long-winded sometimes us old folks just get that way

My neighbor talked those pistol grips up and said they made fighting fish fun. I've been trying to find one so that I can have a little fun with it but all the ones I found so far have been in very poor condition. Always great to meet a fellow flipper.

I’m hurt no medium action baitcaster I use my medium for top water and smalller lures with treble hooks and just had succeed with a 1/8 ounce bullet wieght 4 wide gap hook an a orange craw
@thebraveangler
@thebraveangler Месяц назад
@@dylonharvey4024 oh trust me it was one of the first rods I bought afterwards. Perfect for the soft plastic fluke and other light weight lures. But under 1/4 oz it struggles unless you have a bfs reel which is I went with the spinning. Just adds that extra versatility on the finesse side but I rather throw the baitcaster
@helotaxi
@helotaxi Месяц назад
@@thebraveangler below 1/4 oz, the rod is more often the problem than the reel when you're looking at a baitcaster. Most casting rods sold in the US just aren't well suited to light baits because most bass fishermen just haven't historically thrown much of anything lighter than 1/4oz. That's slowly starting to change and more and more companies are getting into lighter power casting rods.

Great video. Couldn't agree more. My inner demon is telling me to just have 5 heavy to XH fast 7'6 to 7'11 rods with 8.1:1 gear ratios but this seems way more logical and a better use of money on those 5 setups.
@thebraveangler
@thebraveangler Месяц назад
Well there are no rules in fishing in my mind only mild suggestion. It seems like I own more heavy’s then anything
@helotaxi
@helotaxi Месяц назад
@@thebraveangler I'm exactly the opposite. I think I can count all my heavy power rods on one hand and when you consider that I have well over 50 rods and reels, that's saying something. On the other hand, I have at least 15 ML or lighter casting rods at this point, and that's an area where I'm always adding more to the collection. I really like my M power casting rods as well. I don't fish heavy cover very often as we simply don't have much of it on the lakes near me, a big bass is 5 pounds and the water is usually extremely clear.

My favorite thing to throw is a spinner. Don't have the extra money for a bunch of rods, so I stick with my Ugly Stix. I have about 4 of them. And my go to line for now is Berkley Trilene Big Game12# or 15# Mono. Never broke a rod and that line has never done me wrong.
