It appears former Kalamazoo City Mayor Candidate Benjamin Stanley was arrested performing a first amendment audit of the Kalamazoo County Administration Building in Kalamazoo MI.

TRESPASSING
SUMMARY: At approx. 1445 hours. on 1-5-2022 unknown W/M later identified as BENJAMIN HAYDEN STANLEY came into the Kalamazoo County Administration Building approached the front desk with his poodle dog without wearing a mask. I asked him if he needed a mask, and I went to hand him one which he refused immediately to wear one and became argumentative about the rules. During this conversation I notice that he was video taping me with his cell phone .He advised me that he was at the County Commission meeting last night and he wasn’t wearing one then and nobody had said anything to him including the Undersheriff. He walked over to the door and looked at the sign came back and continued to challenge me about the mask rules in the building. STANLEY was asked if he had business in the building to conduct that business or had to leave. STANLEY wanted to make an issue about wearing a mask and continued to taunt me about the issue. I wasn't going to allow STANLEY to disrupt the safety and security of the Administration Building going on in the lobby, he was asked again to go conduct his business or leave.
COUNTY CLERK” S OFFICE: STANLEY decided to walk into the County Clerk's Office and spend some time at the counter asking about affidavits on some Judges, but he didn’t have any real names or who he was really asking for. According to the staff in the Clerk’s office. STANLEY came out and asked me about how to get trespassed, he wanted to know how to get trespassed? While he was holding his cell phone recording me again. During this time, he asked for my name and employee number, I gave STANLEY my name and told him that I would not be giving out my employee number. I sent him on his way to conduct his business or leave the building. STANLEY continued to ask me about telling him how to be “Trespassed” I told him that If he refused to leave the building after instructed to do so he would be arrested, and his dog would go to the pound.STANLEY was told again to conduct his business in the building, or he would have toleave. That was when he decided to walk into the Treasurers’ Office.
COUNTY TREASURERS’ OFFICE:
STANLEY walked in the TREASURERS’ OFFICE and spent some time in that office without conducting any business just conducting conversation with the employees. Once STANLEY exited the TREASURERS OFFICE, he decided to take the elevators up to the 3rd floor wandering around the building without a purpose of business with his dog. Each time STANLEY would come out of an office he would not have any paperwork or material to show that he was there to conduct any business of any kind with the offices he was visiting. STANLEY was just interfering with the staff in performing their jobs to help other customers who had enter the building for business. Once STANLEY decided to come back down, he wanted to hang out in front of my desk and harass me about getting trespassed again, once again while videotaping our conversation on his cell phone. STANLEY was asked several times that if he was finished with his business at the Kalamazoo County Administration Building, he had to leave, or he would be arrested for Trespassing he refused. He pulled up a texted message from the undersheriff that he wanted to share with me. I instructed STANLEY again to leave the building if he was done with his business for the day. I gave STANLEY every opportunity to leave, I went back to my desk and sat down to allow him to leave, he continued to block my view of the lobby by holding his cell phone video taping me which interfered with the safety and security of the building and staff. I couldn’t have a clear view of the lobby, the hall or back door due to STANLEY standing at the front of my window area videotaping me with his cell phone blocking that view.
ARREST:STANLEY was placed under arrest for trespassing, after refusing to leave the building after conducting his business which was nothing at the time, he was also interfering with the Safety and Security of the Kalamazoo County Administration Building, including the staff & customers that were visiting. STANLEY was handcuffed placed into the back of my patrol vehicle and secured. The vehicle was started, and the heat turned on until another unit arrived to transport. His dog was secured in my office area until transport could be arranged with AnimalControl. Sgt Harrison was notified of the arrest; he was going to decide at the jail. Due to the COVID restrictions STANLEY could not be lodged at this time.
