I'm pretty sure Earth was not largely habitable at the time, as the Earth we know today is different than what it is millions of years ago, which is probably why the Martians' didn't consider relocating to Earth, and only sent their basic lifeform in the form of microscopic bacteria in the slim hopes that it would thrive and develop.

He's right, if they had tech to traverse the galaxy for a new home, earth would of been terraform, actually the entire solar system would of been terraform. Or at least in the process with some base all over several planets to extract resources

It's because the effects and plot is pretty bad even for a 2000 movie. It's still pretty good and I love Gary Sinise, but you gotta admit it's hilariously bad in some scenes and scientifically inaccurate in many

The soundtrack imo surpasses the film itself. Ennio Morricone never disappoints but he truly gave it his all in this one, with a slew of memorable themes and emotional melodies that resurface this "retro space" nostalgia from the 60s and 70s.

In a time line so long ago, it's to the N-th degree, unfathomable. Mars was inhabitable. But at some point became uninhabitable. My question is: After spending all the various time, effort and funding in the wonderment of going to Mars. Is the process that caused Mars to become uninhabitable, still in process, or has it stopped. Tis my guess, it's the later.

Love the joke calling out the unprofessionalism of the rescuer astronaut. I always laugh that a lot of sci-fi either has a team of incompetents or a team of super mega experts (who often just happen to act incompetently) rarely anything in between. Also. I've thought a few times now that I think we have a moral obligation to send extremophiles to other planets with environments they can live in. Like if we are the only life in the solar system then we should seed other planets with life as well due to how rare it is.

That’s true, when we discovered simple life on Mars back in the 90’s, we thought it was a real important scientific discovery, but this was before we knew all humans were actually Martians, because this was back before the internet and social media, so information wasn’t so easy to come by

Some rock was found with what was *THOUGHT* to be micro-fossils researchers believed were micro-organisms, but were later found to be mineral deposits, not fossils. Fuck, you people really need to get your facts straight. I recall those news reports, as I was in my late 20's when they all over the news.
