Retired U.S. Army Lt. Gen. Arthur Gregg, the first Black Army officer to reach the rank of lieutenant general and the first living person to have a U.S. Army post named for him, was laid to rest in Section 2 of Arlington National Cemetery, Arlington, Virginia, Sept. 19, 2024. His remarkable military career spanned World War II, the Korean War, and the Vietnam War.
Family, friends, and leaders, including Secretary of Defense Lloyd Austin, gathered to honor Gregg not only for his service but for his role as a mentor, leader, and family man. His legacy of breaking barriers and inspiring change in the Army will live on at Fort Gregg-Adams and beyond.
