Gruss aus Germany from Gregor

I was so looking forward to seeing that first cow get milked. If I had a passport, I may have invited myself to witness it first hand. I can see this won’t be a fast process but I didn’t think it would be.
@HollcanaFarm
@HollcanaFarm 5 дней назад
@@geraldsieber7266 it is very exciting and also very slow going at the same time. Feel like you are milking cows 24/7. They say it gets better. I'm not sure right now. I had a long day with a breakdown on the robot arm and they had to come and replace a computer board. When everything is working it is amazing. Hopefully that fixes the problem we've been having.

As I was watching everyone working to get the first cow in, I was thinking to myself, maybe we should have only moved half the herd and milked the other half in the old barn for a while. 😅

Wonderful Video Today!........ She seemed a bit hesitant to be the first one in but once there she seemed very much at ease enjoying her pellets as the robot did it's work. I'm sure you have been busy there, but how is it going so far?.....from some of the other robotic dairies i have been watching they seem to say it takes a week or so for the girls to get used to their new surroundings and routines. How are the girls getting used to the whole new barn setup?..... it looks like quite a change from the old barn. when you were unloading them into the new barn some seemed excited....... We all wait in anticipation for each new video to see how things are progressing...... and since the robot is keeping such detailed records for each girl and each milking are you seeing anything that surprises you other than some teets milk longer than others? ...... just curious LOL..... AS always THANK YOU for sharing Your Journeys with all of us........

@@allendavidson6608 The cows adjusted quickly to the new building. They love the compost pack and after a day or two were eating well at the feed bunk. Only one cow had trouble finding the water. The milking is going as expected. They go in well now without pushing and that happened pretty quickly but getting them to come regularly on their own is taking time. We have to mess up a twice a day schedule at certain times and get them to each find their own rhythm. We are tired but hopeful!

do u bed ur cows or let them lay in the muck
@HollcanaFarm
@HollcanaFarm 5 дней назад
@@Flatlanderexpress we bed the cows with sawdust. They have a huge compost pack to lay on that is 1.5 feet deep to start and we work it with a cultivator twice a day to promote composting. It is beautiful and the cows love it. There is only concrete where they eat and go to the robot and that is scraped every hour with collector robot. Happy cows!

Thank you! It is going better. Some cows are going all on their own, between 10-15 and the rest go into the robot easily but don't come off the pack without us going to get them. We've had some problems with the robot that have slowed us down. We think a lightning storm damaged it a week ago. They changed a computer board for us yesterday so we hope that improves things. I have been too tired to video, edit or post videos but hopefully it gets better.

No post dip? Thought the robot is supposed to pre and post dip.
@HollcanaFarm
@HollcanaFarm 5 дней назад
The robot sprays post dip on at the end. It is hard to see in the video. We did the oredip because we were training the first day and the robot needs to know where their teats are before it can be accurate with brushes before milking them. So normally they are washed with brushes before and sprayed after.

So many things to say. First the lights in the barn from a distance look amazing. Second those cows must have the patience of job. And one question what is the average age of your cows?
@HollcanaFarm
@HollcanaFarm 5 дней назад
We were surprised by how much the barn lights up through the roof the first time we had the lights on at night. We love it! Cows can be patient or persistent too. If they want in the robot they will stick it out or push someone else out of the way. It's kinda funny to watch now. Our oldest cow is 15 which is rare. I'm not sure of the average because we changed over computer programs and I'm still figuring things out. We tend to have a good amount of older cows to young heifers ratio. Even though the tie stall didn't seem great our cows lasted well there. Hopefully that continues!

Cool! Never seen a computer milker work. Milked cows 50+ years, many different ways. One question. Why does it quarter milk? Seemed excessive on a young even uttered cow to me.
@HollcanaFarm
@HollcanaFarm 5 дней назад
@@richardhoover7569 Well, this was one of the things that really sold me on Lely Robots. You would be amazed how much each teat is different. In length of time and amount that they milk. I always hated seeing all teats hung on longer when only one needed it. Most come off around the same time but some are very different. It prevents damage to the teats.

We do have two in the herd that were from a Lely compost pack farm. The one has been a problem because she sticks her head in the robot door and won't let anyone else in😂. The other one we have to go and get as much as our own cows. She goes in great once she is there. Can't win sometimes!

You contaminated the nozzles banging into her udders several times. This is a lousy robot compared to other robots I have seen in action.
@HollcanaFarm
@HollcanaFarm 5 дней назад
Once the robot learned their udder it went much quicker on, with less banging around. The first few squirts of milk are diverted to sewer. Otherwise my husband said yes there are other robots that wash each teat after the cup is on. Lely is still considered top of the robot milker world in many other ways. This was a very first milking by the robot on a fresh heifer and can't be compared to other videos of robots that have been working awhile.
