Finally got around to firing up two of my engines. The older the engine and gas, the better it starts!

I just found a Stover like that sitting complete in the middle of a Miniature Golf Course as part of a Mining display!

great video Sir. I have a stover KE and i like seeing it run slow...great idea on the oil hole below the oiler.... a pre lube ...keeps them living

The oil hole drilled in the coupling below the oiler is a brilliant idea. Very nice engine.

what thickness of oil do you use in your oilier? Ive been using 30 weight and having some trouble getting getting it working it drips good before the engine starts but when running nothing drips out

+Tea Tipper any oil is fine, i use 15-40. straight 30 weight is also good. the reason it stops working when engine is running is because, most likely, your rings are worn and a little combustion pressure is escaping past the rings, up the oiler tube, and out the oiler. you might also notice bubbles coming up through the oil reservoir. If you drill a hole in your oil tube like i have, it will serve a double purpose - pre oiling with an oil can like in this video, and also a vent for any pressure coming from the cylinder.

+themadmailler OK Ill try that, if can drill the hole at a slightly downward angle I'm thinking that will keep any oil dripping out the new hole.thanks for taking the time to answer my question I really appreciate it ,

an angled hole will work fine, but i don't have a problem with a straight hole. If you have a problem with lots of blowby, you can install a tee between the oiler tube and the oiler, with the branch of the tee pointing horizontally. Then screw in an elbow and short piece of pipe in the elbow pointing vertically. this will direct gasses away and catch any excess oil. You could also install new rings.

Is that stover electroplated? That doesnt look like paint, looks like its been plated. With my ct1 I usually start it by turning 2 times choked full fuel, then turning open with no fuel, then turn fuel up to keep it running.

How did you learn how these old engines run and how to get them to run properly?
@themadmailler
@themadmailler 8 лет назад
+Nate Perzanoski (WheelHorseRookie) It is a continual process of learning. The best way to learn is to buy an engine and fix it. That's how i've learned the majority of what i know about engines, tractors, and equipment. It is also great to have help online (join SmokStak.com!) and in person (find local shows and clubs, and ask how to join and be a member).

+themadmailler I have looked on CL for them but I can never find any small ones. The small ones the I do find are pretty expensive. Also how much are you asking for the Hit or Miss tractor?
@themadmailler
@themadmailler 8 лет назад
go to local shows, the prices there are generally a little better. expect to pay about $300-$500 for something like my Stover. Also check EnginAds on the SmokStak for engines too. sometimes there's good deals on there. I'm asking $1500 for the hit and miss tractor, OBO and trades considered.
