Watching this and considering going to cosmo school, I have always had an eye and passion for hair coloring. I have my bachelors degree and honestly wish I could have gone back and time and go to cosmo school instead, now I have zero debt but if I go to cosmo school, I'll have to take out loans, so I am honestly afraid of the possible financial risk... if i'l make enough, etc. . If you/any commenters have any personal advice who do hair, please let me know!
Fellow Bree here- go for it! I went to hairdressing school at 18 and ended up going back to become a nurse... did that for 10 years and guess where I am working again? As a hairdresser! It's the only job I've ever had where I feel you make a real difference and you have fun everyday!
I got a bachelors degree & 13 years later went to Cosmo school because it’s something I always wanted to do. I have been licensed for 5 years now. It wasn’t cheap because went to a for profit school. Its cheaper through a community college but it takes a lot longer. When you apply for loans you won’t get grants because you already have a bachelors degree & they see you as being able to pay your loans back since you already have an education. I started Cosmo school part time & switched to full time go get it finished earlier because (in CA then we had to have 1600 hours &) I just wanted to be done. After you’re done you will have to set up a payment plan. They try to get you to pick one based on what you think you you will make. Pick the option that lets you pay based on income after the fact. If you are in a hardship you don’t have to pay but your interest will keep accruing. Just be aware that you have hustle & grind in the beginning. If you’re worried about finances keep your day job & only do hair part time to start. Build your clientele & slowly start doing hair more days until you build up to full time. This industry is fun but can also be brutal too. I don’t regret changing careers. There is so much flexibility in this industry. Hope this helps.
Do it! My assistant right now got her bachelors degree then went to cosmo school and is doing what she loves now! It's never too late! This industry is growing so fast and allows you to have a beautiful and successful life!
