I just bought a house in Przegorzaly in Krakow - a 10 minute bus ride to Salwator but almost in the country, close to Wisla and the Tyniec Benedictine monastery. Very happy! : ) Good luck with you move! You won’t regret it.

Welcome to Poland ! The bajgiel came to America from Krakow . Brought to America by polish Jewish immigrants from Krakow. The ancestor of beigle was OBWARZANEK KRAKOWSKI (which you ate). Obwarzanek krakowski was baked in Kraków as early as the 14th century, and bejgiel since around the 17th century, The difference between an obwarzanek and a bagel is in the shape and the fact that an obwarzanek is boiled in water before baking. An obwarzanek krakowski is a bread measuring 12-17 cm in diameter, 3-4 cm thick and weighing 120-200 g. The product is more savoury than a bagel, just look at the curly ring decorated with sprinkles (salt, sesame, poppy, herbs, cheese or onion). A bagel - you can see the difference at first glance. A Jewish bagel is a "thicker" bread, often with a smaller hole, with a smooth texture, and may also be treated with sprinkles.

I am now relaxing in a small resort town of Szczawnica in the Pieniny mountains. It’s so beautiful I feel like I died and went to Heaven. You could rent a car and drive here from Kraków on beautiful country roads. I’d suggest staying at the Hotel Szczawnica Park or the Modrzewie Park Hotel, both wonderful with delicious food. There’s the Highlander architecture, a lovely country church, river rafting, trails, biking, you name it, and views to die for. Enjoy!

3:32 Amber was often called the "gold of Poland". Poland is renowned for its extensive amber deposits and its association with the Baltic Sea coastline. For centuries, Poland has been a hub for amber production and trade. The gemstone holds cultural significance in Polish folklore, art, and traditional craftsmanship. The ancient Amber Road, linking the Baltic region to the Mediterranean, further solidified Poland's role as a center for amber commerce 😊

Kraków is my favorite city in the world. I’m a little bit jealous that you guys get to live there. Anyway, if you can go back to St. Mary’s Basilica when they first open in the morning, you can catch the opening of the Veit Stoss altarpiece, which is stunning. Go to Wawel Cathedral, and be sure to go up in the bell tower for a fantastic view. Also, check out the crypt below the cathedral if you want to see the tombs of some famous Poles. If you’re up for a day trip, Auschwitz is easily reached by train or bus. I recommend a guided tour of the camp, and you can buy tickets online in advance. I was there in October 2019 and it was crowded, so I can only imagine what it will be like at this time of year. Other easy day trips are Częstochowa for the monastery at Jasna Góra and the Black Madonna, and Wadowice to see the sites related to Pope John Paul II’s childhood. If you want to go to Wadowice, check to make sure the Wojtyla family home is open for tours. I went on a Monday and it was closed ☹️ Please keep us updated on your stay in Kraków. I’ll be back there this summer and I’m still looking for new things to see and do.

4:20 The legend explains why the melody of the bugle call suddenly breaks off, as if it were not played to the end: The Mariacki Church, with its two towers, was an important place for Krakow. From the higher tower, known as the hejnalica (which is also the tallest tower in the city), centuries ago, the city guard would signal in the morning to open the gates and in the evening to close the city walls, and more. The bugler would sound the alarm if he spotted a fire or an approaching enemy. One day, when the Tatars, who frequently raided southern Poland, reached Krakow, the guard began playing the bugle call. The city gates were closed in time, but a Tatar arrow pierced the throat of the Polish bugler before he could finish the melody. In memory of this event, the melody always breaks off.

Hi Guys! Do have some recommendations for you: in Sukiennice please do visit the museum; it has an amazing collection of 19th century Polish Art; incredrible paintings worth seeing (I guarantee you'll be amazed)! Definitely, you also need to see Wawel Castle and the dragon that stands nead the cave and pours out the fire out of his mouth. Cannot also forget to visit Wieliczka Salt Mine, that is one of the longest operating salt mines in the world with extraordinary chambers where everything is made of salt. Go to Jewish district, Kazimierz, where you'll find some synagogues and also nice restaurants and pubs. Take a trip to Kosciuszko Mound to admire beautiful Krakow panorama from the top of the mound. That's for the start but I still have some other recommendations in the pocket; I'm from Krakow so if you have any questions just ask ;) Enjoy your stay!

@@TwoMadExplorers That’s great! If you guys need some tips also about places worth visiting in Poland I can share plenty of them. This would be unique and not visited by all foreign tourists. A good example would be a beautiful castle in Łańcut with its astonishing park or in Krasiczyn. Near Kraków it’s worth to see Pieskowa Skała castle. But there are many more!

The melodie thats played on the market place is called Hejnał Mariacki. U may have noticed that the melody gets cut at some point and behind that is an interesting story. Centuries ago, the city guard used his trumpet to give a signal to open the castle gates in the morning, and to close the castle gates in the evening, but not only that. The guard also used the melody as alarm when he saw a fire or an approaching enemy. Once, when the Tatars, who very often attacked southern Poland, came to Krakow and the guard started to play the bugle call. The city gates were closed, but a Tatar arrow pierced the throat of the Polish bugler before he finished the tune. In memory of this event, the melody always stops.
