Just goes to show that there was a lot of hesitation around a second Biden term. This will re-energize the Dems and allow them to employ a much more aggressive strategy, which should have been their first plan all along. No misunderstanding, Biden has been an excellent president but I do think it was time for something else. Kamala can still carry the torch of his legacy onwards.

As a foreigner, it always sounds like American politics is for sale to the highest bidder. How much money is actually spent on campaigns?

Campaigns have costs for people and for advertisements, and it does cost that money to get the word out to the voters. Whether it is in travel, venue charges, tv programming. So yeah, millions can be spent on that, especially for something as large as a Presidential election cycle. (And don’t forget the down tickets, like for Congress and the Senate. It’s a big deal. But a lot of money can come from a lot of regular citizens and that often happens, such as seen here)
