Thanks Tommy! You’ll have to keep me updated on how you end up liking it. We’re in the business of making people look good, need the lighting to make that happen.
Love it! I would really appreciate it if you can tell me how you power the 600d. Is it just wall plug? Or do you use a surge protector or maybe like a delta pro or some sort of power bank?
Awesome vlog, Mitch. And great to see your wife partnering with you in your family business. When you are ready for an upgrade, do look into a solid cart like the Rock N Roller cart or something similar. That one piece of gear changed our lives especially for the load-out after a long day of shoot.
Man, everyone in that DFW chat is really pushing me to own a 600D, the ability to have so much power is great for peace of mind. Lowkey I’m always stressing when I do interviews and I’ve never seen the location before. Always worried I’ll never get enough light to expose for windows. Great first vlog, the location was nice!
I had an interview shoot recently that last minute ended up being in a corner suite of a high rise with floor to ceiling windows. Luckily we were on the shadow side of the building at that time, but I just barely had enough power it with all my other lights. I think buying this light was more a peace of mind purchase to know that I won’t have to worry about that as much in the future. Now I have to figure out how to fit in on my cart 😄
RU-vid recommended your video, so that's a great start! Please keep up with the posting. I'd love to follow along the videography/photography journey of yours!
Hey there! My answer to that is that it really depends. The 300c has some good output, but not nearly as much as a 600d. If you are able to get your light really close to the subject and the environment outside isn’t peak brightness then maybe. The 300c is definitely a good light with a lot of flexibility, but if you don’t have a high powered daylight fixture, I would be focused more on power first, then fixtures with rgb options. Keep in mind though, I’ve been doing paid work with an amaran 200x as my main key light for a while prior to getting a 600d, so you just have to work within the limitations of your gear.
Yes the gear list is something I’ve built out on the productivity app Trello. Basically I have a gear list template for full production video shoots, headshot shoots, and event photography shoots. For each project I’ll make small adjustments for what I need, but it’s a good jumping off point. I’m super forgetful, so this helps a lot.
Thank you for the behind the scenes - very informative! In using your 600D, how have you found using a fresnel with it? Do you use the fresnel all the time, or do you find the 600D by itself also effective at creating nice diffused lighting? Thank you in advance.
Hey Robert, thanks! I prefer to use the fresnel when shooting the 600d straight through diffusion so I can control spill and fill the diffusion. When I’m bouncing the 600d, like in a booklight setup, or bouncing off a wall of ceiling, I’ll use the silver reflector dish.
I used it today on a shoot. It’s great. I really like the flexibility of making it larger or smaller depending on the space I’m working in. I’ll probably have another video coming out soon showing it off.
That is a good question. I will probably bring it on most of my video shoots for a while to see how I feel about that. The included rolling case is great, but it’s huge. I may try packing it into a crate instead to make it easier to put on my cart, but I’ll have to find some solutions for other gear I normally bring. I would imagine that it will be like my 70-200mm lens, in that it’s big and heavy, I don’t always use it, but when I need it I REALLY need it.
