Kevy Shaves on Instagram - / kevyshaves My first ever DE wet shave. No cuts but some razor rash! Merkur 34C Personna Lab Blue Blade Simpsons Sandalwood Shaving Cream Omega 10108 Synthetic Brush Nivea Shaving Balm
I've been watching your videos for awhile, so I decided to go back to your first video, while I await the arrival of my first sampler pack of DE blades. It's great to see the origins of your channel and how far you have come. I will be reconnecting with my father, RIP, when I endeavor to use his 1960 F1 Super Speed FIair/Flare Tip upon the arrival of the blades. Thanks for sharing your experiences with us.
Hi Kevy. I've been wet shaving for 3 years now. My first DE shave was with Shick Classic DE razor ( wilkinson sword in the UK ) and it was disaster. I had terrible cuts and burn all over my face and neck. Then I bought a dirt cheap plastic set by Dorco and it was like blessing. I guess the blade exposure was just right for beginners. Then I had my first metal razor - a modest TTO Timor which served me obediently for a year. Interestingly, I was quite satisfied with it and my Derby blades. I used a Nivea cream and aftershave and that was about it. Well, my Timor kicked the bucket and it's when this whole thing started. Now I have 10 different razors in my rotation, have about 5 year stock of blades, creams , soaps, not to mention a cool collection of vintage blades( the oldest one is made in 1945), a straight razor by Parker, and about 20 different aftershaves, the most cool being an original 1968 Old Spice. This is what I received from my wife as a NY present-an American Crew aftershave toner, a Bulgary XMan aftershave balm, and a 100 pack of Feathers. I know I have to get it under control somehow. Do you think we should stop it at some point?
hi kevy. I watched a few of your recent videos then watched this one. We've all been there, and your first DE shave reminder me of mine. my first DE razor was a Futur, you can imagine. . . the water in the basin was a pinky colour after my first pass ! the soap in your eye made me giggle ! see you on TSR. . . . . Paul L
Hi Paul. I sometimes like to look at this video to see how far I've come on my wet shaving journey. How long have you been shaving this way for now? Kevy 😀
I nicked myself my first shave, because I moved the razor sideways while still in contact with my face. I have not nicked myself since in the past few months. I’m sure I’ll do it again though. I’ll always bowl lather.
Kevy looked good - use a light touch, most of us were probably too heavy when we started. Also use shorter strokes; this will allow you to concentrate on being lighter. Finally, just do two passes for now until you face catches up; use both a toning after shave splash and then when dry a balm. Performance will improve a hundred fold with each shave. After your second pass you were rocking it! Shave was tight!
Loved seeing this video Kevy! The look on your face when you realized you had a razor that just mowed through all that hair in one stroke was priceless :)
The tension was palpable. Great video and very brave to film it too. I'm having my first DE shave Saturday morning, can't wait. I'm on the Shaving Room forum BTW. I'm Blackmass. Hello and loving watching all your videos, they've been a great help, thank you.
I'll be using the Merkur 34c, Razorock Pilssoft and the TOBS sandalwood. Haven't decided what blade yet, probably the Astra. I've already bought a number of soap samples. This hobby is addictive. I'm currently watching some of your other videos right now.
I took to DE shaving pretty well, but I had a mild razor, and for some reason, I wasn't nervous. There are a lot of other things where my learning curve isn't so good, and I am having more trouble adjusting to open comb razors and slants.
Don Fraysier Don Fraysier I guess it's just like most things Don, practice more and it gets more natural feeling. The good thing about this hobby is that there are so many different variables to try out too in the search for that "perfect shave". Cheers for the comment. Kevy 😀
I'm just getting ready to begin shaving with a double edge safety razor . Just waiting for it to arrive in the mail. After watching several videos by different people, I wonder if in this very first video for you, was the cream too dry maybe? Seems that on other videos, the shaving soap looks a lot wetter.
first time i have watched this Kevy, and wow how far have you come! You looked so nervous and shaved very slowly, yet the funny thing is you take longer now to shave than you did back then LOL All the best :)
Been subscribed to your channel for awhile from my other RU-vid account and never watched your first video till now. Great first shave video. I was nervous when I did my first RU-vid shave video too.
Did my first DE shave today and it sort of went ok. I did cut myself three times and had issues mostly on the lip area and under the cheeks. I guess I got too cocky 🤣🤣 I shall press on and take my time on the next one. I used a Viking Chieftain with a Viking blade. Any tips on a beginner blade or any tips in general?
Firstly, well done and welcome to the crazy world of wet shaving! The first few Shaves will be you learning new technique. But rach shave will get better and it wont take too long. Blades are wo different. I would recommend getting a sampler pack of blades and trying some different ones to get you to find out which work well. Astra Sp, Gillette Silver blue, gillette Nacet and Personna blades all seem to be favorable with lots of wet shavers so might be an idea to try some of those. Just take your time and try to adjust each time you shave, you'll get there, just enjoy it. Kevy 😀👍
Piko Van Go for it Piko! You can have a quick shave sometimes. Once you start shaving this way, you'll enjoy it so much you might get out of bed 15 minutes earlier, just to have a shave! Of course, you don't have to shave every day, it depends on how quickly your beard grows back in or if you need to shave every day for work etc. But you definitely can skip a day or two between shaves. Cheers. Kevy 😀
so if you had to choose between these scenarios.... A. Use a DE razor and usual shaving creams Or B: Purchase a nice brush and quality shaving soap and use store razors. Which, Kevy?
don`t know... but I was kind of hoping you would have chosen the cream and brush... as the DE makes me nervous and requires me to get out of the comfort zone...
Well, the reason I choose the DE is because after years of using cartridges, my skin was sore everytime I shaved, dragging 4 blades across my face. Thats the reason I went for the DE and a good blade. Cheers. Kevy :)
Lol! It was a bit of a bloodbath. Good to look back on and see how much better my technique is now. Still far from perfect but I'm getting there. Cheers. Kevy :)
Well, on your other videos it looks really good. - I’m still fighting with a lot of different problems. But I hope I’ll be as good as you in half a year. Next step is trying a different razor. I thought of a vintage Gillette Aristocrat or Junior. But they are very difficult -and if , quite expensive- to get here.
De Vinois Mathieu Thank you. It does take a while to get the technique just right. I'm still trying! But every shave, I learn something and try to remember it for the next shave. The Gillette Aristocrats are brilliant razors. Cheers. Kevy 😀
I've been wet shaving for about 2 1/2 yrs now and have not gone back to a cartridge razor 🪒 My first DE shave drew blood too. But what a shave it was. Never felt smoother and never realized that I could actually enjoy it as well. I felt so relaxed afterwards like I was in zen mode lol. Seriously though, I find it to be like a form of meditation. Wishing you many more shaves my friend. Be well and stay blessed
Refreshing and humorous to watch the difference between your video you posted hours ago and this one that RU-vid put up as a recommendation of your first shave. How slow and nearly scared you appear here vs how confident you are now with speed and precision. How quickly you shave is one thing I like about your channel and videos. Other guys still act like they are afraid their going to slit their throat. It's called a safety razor for a reason, and is not a straight blade.
It was fun to see your first DE shave. You were being cautious, which is a good thing. I went very slowly for my first shave also. Now I am 7 months into wet shaving and will never go back to cartridge razors (unless I have carry on luggage when travelling). I don't remember drawing as much blood as you on my first shave but every face is different. When I watch you shave now, you go at lightning speed compared to the shave on this video. I would say it took me 6 months to really dial in my lathering and shaving technique. So a word of advice for newbies. Be patient. Go slowly and keep at it. Within a few months, your technique will improve dramatically.
I know what you mean. I've been de shaving for only 2-ish months now and still dialing in the blades and techinque. I get better then I do something dumb and ingrown hair city for the next shave. Still, this is much better than cartridge shaving and the damn irritation it always caused me. I stopped shaving for 10 yrs and just grew beards or goaties with only electric shave. I'm glad I looked into DE shaving.
You know, it's hard to tell this is your first one of these. You're obviously a natural. I've just been watching you live and I can tell you, the worst is yet to come. Wow, even a bit of singing. Nice. Interestingly a lot of your phrases and mannerisms have remained the same. I suppose it's only six years. Absolutely charming man in a charming video. Unlike the swivel eyed loon we see today. Only joking Kevy.😉
Hi Kevy, I didn't know you had only been De shaving for only four years. I have been De shaving for about 35 years and started with a de razor because I found shaving a real drag. So I went out and bought a Simpsons X2L brush, a tub of Taylors "Barber shop" shaving cream and used a Gillette razor that I had sort of inherited. It was a lovely Razor owned by a relative and was broken down and stored in the top of a clothes brush. He had been an Army officer in WWII but it was good quality, not like the A S & CO Razors that were issued. It is only about the last 10 years I took more of an interest buying a 34c, a Muhle r89 and a De89 Jagger. Very recently I have started watching fine chaps like you on RU-vid and started spending a lot more money on Razors, soaps, brushes & blades!! Just received the sure grip handle for my Outlaw today. I really love it. Tomorrow the King C Gillette and blades should be arriving. The problem is having to wait for bristles to grow again so I can try another new razor. I have unused ones piling up!! Stay safe Sir!! Dave.
Your braver than me recording your first go at it. Mine was pretty similar with little nicks all over my neck and some pretty bad razor burn. Had to steal my wife’s thick foot lotion to calm the burn. I thought after 30+ years if cartridge shaving and watching others on RU-vid “how hard can it be?” . Glad you stuck with it and glad I have too. I’ve cut myself far worse with a disposable and cartridge than I have with a safety razor. It’s just going to happen unless you don’t shave at all or use an electric.
I'm a regular watcher, and this just popped up in my recommended videos. It's crazy how things have changed! You should definitely revisit this. I think you'll get a kick out of it. You're holding that thing like it's a 2 headed rattlesnake vs now, like it's just a stick of butter. Good job barely aging in 7 years. So... this explains the great styptic shortage of 2015.
Brilliant first de shave buddy! Can’t believe I hadn’t watched this until now! Love a bit of bloodshed lol 😂 nice work man! Lovely to see where you came from!
Like you mate, it's good to look back to the first De shave to see how far we've came on this journey. I was bricking it before deciding to film this vid. I'm so glad I did now. Just goes to show if you stick with it, this way of shaving is brilliant. Kevy 😀
Wait Kevy, you recorded your first shave??? Really? And you already had the title "Kevy shaves" there was somebody planing seriously I watch that now. looking forward to it! :-)
LOL Talk about a bloodbath. It was good overall, Kevy. Mine was a bit bloody too, but because I nicked myself on the lip. Here is the video: ru-vid.com/video/%D0%B2%D0%B8%D0%B4%D0%B5%D0%BE-udjPRJA-Q84.html Please don't laugh LOL
Hey Martin. Well done! I think your first shave went much better than mine did. It's good at least you're still going with the shaves and the videos. Keep them coming. Cheers. Kevy 👍
Interesting, I just saw this 1st shave vid. What did you do with that brush......I don't remember seeing it again...... I don't like boar brushes. Cheers
@@kevyshaves4109 Nice, maybe that is what I have that belonged to my dad *he never used it*; looks like a boar BUT it never softens.....I tried the different soaks and temperatures....; I guess it's usable, but not pleasant. Cheers
I’m here after finally getting initiated into the club of wet shavers. Unlike your first wet shave, my first wet shave went very well with no nicks, no cuts, no irritation. I have to deal with the growing pains as a newbie, but I’m gonna get better with time and experience
It feels strange watching this. As if it is not you. I remember my first de shave. I ordered an ej86 razor and some cream and had quite high expectations. But the first results were not that good and I started asking myself what all those guys on youtube were talking about. Later I realized that the brush, razor, blade and soap/cream all play a role for the good shaving experience.
It's only natural when you cut yourself with a double edge razor for the first time and a few nicks when you've been using a cartridge razor for some time. But you do get the hang of it after a while and you will get used to it. Double edge razors are the best to shave with. :)
I don't know why this popped into my recommended but I enjoyed watching the first kevy DE vid. I found myself saying, "add more water to that brush!" But I'm pretty sure you know that now 7 yrs later. I had the same hesitancy in my first de shave this past october (2022) and the same nicks in almost the same spots. Cheers brother!
OMG Kevy. This shave brings back the memory of my first DE shave back in 2007. I looked like I got shot in the neck with a shotgun. Love your videos . Still to this day I occasionally tear up my neck :( Great job with all your videos up to date :)
I wish I had film of my first DE shave, I was very cautious and was slow as hell. I don't remember having such an angle like you did on this one. I use a Merkur Futur and would have probably bled to death if I had it at that angle. I still remember a small weeper on my chin from that day thou LOL I was so conscientious about how I held the razor and the angle, yet it's like an afterthought now. Like closing ones eyes and eating with a spoon LOL It's always good to see where we started to appreciate how far we have come
A true BBS (Bloodbath shave). I don’t know of anyone who didn’t have a few nicks from their 1st shave. Look at you now shaving just as comfortably as if using a cartridge
Tips: Be good to your mother. Glad your first shave wasn't with a straight, hey Kevy. I bought the Merkur Futur and a shavette to do under my nose, what a disaster. My Mrs cracked up. Getting used to the Merkur now but often revert back to my Rockwell 6c . 😉 (Ha, the name Rockwell, it's like shaving with Fred Flintstone).
I've watched a few of your vids nd came across this one. What strikes me always is your enthusiasm and good nature. You're a pro now - and a gent ! I've just ordered my 1st de - am a few weeks into shaving with a straight, took off a year long beard. The soaps and aftershave are all new to me. Stay well and happy.
Hi Kieran. Thanks so much for your positive words. It's always nice to read comments like that. I'll bet it felt weird after the beard came off right? Welcome to the wonderful mad world of wet shaving! There's plenty of videos on here to check out reviews on soaps, brushes, razors etc to help you decide what you. Isn't like to try. Samples are always a good place to start. Let's you try out some soaps before committing to paying for a whole tub. All the best. Kevy 👍
I wish I would have recorded my first DE Shave! Even though I had shaved with a DE when I was younger; I was a little nervous. Thank goodness, no cuts or nicks but, I found out what RAZOR BURN IS ALL ABOUT!!!!!!. I like you, watched tons of videos before deciding to begin the DE experience. I started DE shaving just after Christmas of 2015. So I am still somewhat of a NOOB at this. I have learned a lot though the shaving community, blogs, forums and you tube. I struggled with razor burn for the first couple of months because I was trying to attain the infamous BBS SHAVE! However, I have finally found DE shaving very comfortable and have been able to really relax and enjoy the shaving experience. I didn't find this "comfortable place" until I started to "shim" my razor with another DE blade. I am still using the shimmed razor shave but, I am now trying to determine if I'm going to buy another razor that is a little more efficient. Your video brings back vivid memories. Thanks
Hey Kevy weird question... Is it okay to shave in the bedroom? I find it more cozy for some reason clammering out of bed at 5 in the morning and standing in front of my dresser hacking the facial hair away. Maybe that's what I did in a past life LOL who knows. Have a good day!
Thanks Kieran. I sometimes look back at this video to see how far I've came and it's always good to watch. It brings back a lot of memories from that whole day I filmed it. Cheers. Kevy 👍
I am fairly new to wet shaving and treading my way through each and every shave, just three months in. I started out as a Supply single edge adjustable razor candidate and just recently graduated to a Rockwell T2 SS adjustable. I’m pretty sure the razor blades are the issue with me and causing some issues with me so watching your first shave gives me inspiration to keep on going until I get it right! Today, after three months, I had my first BBS shave with no cuts or blood drawn. Thank you for your inspiration.
Great to hear your story Stuart. It's the best feeling when you've just started out and you have your first comfortable, drama free shave right?! Everything just seems to click. Keep going and try different blades. As your skin adjusts and gets more used to having a sharp blade dragged over it, your shaves will improve for the better. All the brst. Kevy 😃
Kevy Shaves I just ordered my first DE, and I'm sure a lot of the pressure comes from habit with the cartridges. Is there any tips you have for me to avoid doing this? I've read several forums where they say to hold it like a pencil or with less fingers.
Tyler Ashley Hi Tyler. It takes a while to,adjust and get used to the no pressure thing. I find it helps holding the razor near the top between my thumb and first finger. That way your not gripping the razor and I find it's more difficult to apply pressure. You will find your own way of doing it. I've heard others say that imagine the razor is a paint brush and your using very light strokes on your face. I hope this helps. Let me know how it goes. Cheers. Kevy 😀
Well done Sir. Nice to see where you started and where you are now. I've just started Straight Razor shaving about 2 months now. Not sure if I'm getting better or worse. LOL But, I can only go up from here. Thanks for sharing.
Ha ha, thanks Jill. I like to oook back in this video from time to time to see how far I have came. I'm still learning but it's getting better all the time. I was very nervous but I'm glad I filmed it. Have a great week ahead. Kevy 😀👍
Eight years on this is the show that I used to confidently restart my wet shaving with a DE razor after being an absentee of 50+ years. Thank you Kevy.
Welcome to the world of DE shaving! Good advice you have been given so far. I would recommend mapping your face. Learn which way your hair grows and you can get better shaves. Also depending on your skin type and how often you shave a two pass sytem may be more beneficial. Some people can not go against the grain because of their skin type. If you shave every day like me then going against the grain in a three pass system may cause irritation. Good job for the first time and again welcome.
Thanks Rich. I've done a video on mapping my hair growth and my shaves now are much much better. ru-vid.com/video/%D0%B2%D0%B8%D0%B4%D0%B5%D0%BE-R6gQY0zEMMg.html Thanks for the comment and taking time to watch I appreciate it.
Hahahahaaa....this is absolutely fantastic to see Kevy. I caught wind of this video after already seeing many of your other ones. You've clearly come a VERY long way; which gives me much hope as I've been trying to get a handle on this thing for years now but kept getting SEVERE razor bumps/ingrown's. (Check my post 'journey towards a BBS dream' on B&B to see the gruesome photos) so I kept laying it to rest. Thanks to videos like yours and the likes of 'Nick shaves' and 'Geo Fatboy' I've picked it back up again. This time, paid more attention and have started using it as my main method of shaving. This is addictive stuff as I'm buying product just to add to the collection but the intangible (and tangible) feeling is great. Keep them videos coming.
Wow! What a very interesting thread on B&B. Some brilliant advice from the folks on there for you in your quest. Brilliant to read that you're still sticking with it. It does take a while to get technique down and many, many shaves trying out different products to find out what works best for you. That's the thing; advice from others is great, but the only way to find out if something works for you as an individual, is to try it a few times for yourself. It's taken me two and a bit years to get to where I am but I'm still looking to try different combinations in a shave to see what works. That's the bit I really enjoy. I cant see past the Rockwell 6S for giving me a consistently great shave. How are you getting on with yours? Great to read your story. Stick with it and I'm sure it'll all come good. All the best. Kevy 😀
It's good to look back at this and see how much I've improved and to see how I was when I first stated out shaving this way. I remember being so nervous before this shave. Cheers. Kevy 😀👍
Kevy Shaves You certainly done better than me and my first shave Kevy 😉 Although I have only been DE shaving around seven weeks, I feel like my technique has improved a little, although I have still a long way to go. I had a shave this morning and it’s about the third time I’ve used TOBS. The mistake I made this morning was I had my brush a little bit too wet, so my lather was a bit thin, but despite this the TOBS still provided a really comfortable shave despite my little mistake. I suppose it’s good I realised where I went wrong and I can always rectify this on my next shave, it’s all about trying different things or different ways and seeing which you personally find the best. Really enjoying using the TOBS. I find I can smell the Sandalwood for hours after I shave. Looking forward to slowly working my way through the rest of their range 🙂
Yes, it takes a bit of time to get used to this way of shaving. TOBS Sandalwood is a beautiful cream. Keep at it and definitely, experiment with your lather technique, adding water or trying different brushes to make a lather. There's so many different ways to do things in wet shaving. That's why it's so much fun. Cheers. Kevy 😀👍
Hey kevy just looked at your first shave video all I can say wow they’ve gone downhill from there and only 19 minutes long 😆 lol BYW technique hasn’t improved greatly either lol 😆 haha hopefully things will improve
Your anniversary shave today (Oct 13, 2021) made me curious to watch your first shave. The six years have been good to you. My regards and well wishes.
Wel done, remember no pressure on the razor let it glide and guide it, NO PRESSURE no pressure no pressure that was my best advice when starting de shaving and have patience.
Hi Kev, just catching up with your videos which I discovered last week. I started DE shaving about a year before you so interesting to compare your experiences with mine. This shave was very similar to my first lots of little nicks! Biggest lesson - no pressure at all , don't even be tempted. Also don't go against the grain to start. I am now learning to use open comb razor technique with a Fatip Piccolo and a Muhle R41 both really aggressive - I nicked myself with those too though i was ok with a Merkur Futur. Incidentally where di you get your Catie's Bubbles? Good luck and all the best! Dave
Not sure how long you were out of the shower before starting the shave but I recommend shaving ASAP after the shower. Keep it up and you'll get there. practise makes perfect 😉
Stumbled across this kevy while on your channel...wow what a difference man from this very first video too the one u posted yesterday you've came along way in the last few years to the point people like myself look up too you and actually get a buzz when u post a new video
I'm about 11 wet shaves into my wet shaving experience. I had the same issues with my neck on my first shave. I too have the 34c. I chose the Derby blade for my first shave because in the videos I watched they were referred to as less sharp and more smooth so I thought that would calm my nerves somewhat. I've since used the treet platinum super superior stainless blade. And I would highly recommend that for beginners.
RICHARD Clark Thanks for sharing that Richard. I still think of myself as a beginner. It's great when you do notice that your shaves are improving and it is great fun trying out all the different products to find which ones work best for you. And believe me, your skin will improve with each shave. Cheers. Kevy 👍
Hi Kevy, so I have been watching your videos a wee bit before I started wet shaving. I have learnt a great deal from you. I have always appreciated you honesty, integrity and your humour. Thanks again for everything. Cheers.
Your technique has been completely refined - this reminds me of all the thoughts I was having in my first month of de shaving. I still sometimes brush the soap up my cheeks and round the edges of my nose as a means of washing the skin! #lifehack Totally brave to shave the genesis shave - blood n all - you'll look back on this for inspiration one day.
Thanks. I do like to look back from time to time to see how much progress I've made. That's one of the reasons I make these shave videos, like I'm documenting my wet shaving journey. Kevy :)
I dont shave my face yet, (Im 14) but I do shave my head.I had my first DE head- shave last year and have enjoyed it ever since... I love your content, Stay strong and be of good courage ☺👍- sam
The tension was palpable. Great video and very brave to film it too. I'm having my first DE shave Saturday morning, can't wait. I'm on the Shaving Room forum BTW. I'm Blackmass. Hello and loving watching all your videos, they've been a great help, thank you.
Hi Kevy, things are going well thanks. My first DE shave went really well. I've since spent loads of money on new stuff, including a ATT R1. I'm on the Shaving Room forum. My username is Blackmass. I've been keeping up with all your videos and they have been a great help. Keep 'em coming.
I don't understand why this message from the future was not delivered until today. Good 1st careful shave. I predict a great success of your channel with 13k subscribers. I also see a cat, no a dog who appears in your videos, Mr Raleigh or Bailey or Riley. I don't see clearly, sorry... Happy anniversary and long life to your channel and a good health to you and all the people you love
kevy shaves. Your video reminded me of my first DE shave last month. Only two nicks and a bit of burn, lol. I'm using a Wilkinson Sword Classic with matching blades & brush and Boots for men Original Shave Bowl at the moment. What's your opinion on my choices? Thanks for the videos and good to see a fellow Jock doing this. All the best.
hi David. They are all good products you're using. Maybe try the Boots cool cologne cream if you can get some. It's easier to lather than the soap in the bowl. It takes a wee bit of time for your skin to get used to this way of shaving but stick with it. And I would definitely recommend trying out different brands of blades. They are all very different and they will all feel different depending on what type of stubble you have and what razor you put them in. But you'll know when you'd find a blade that works for you. Let me know how you're getting on and if you need to ask anything, I'll do my best to try and answer it for you. Cheers. Kevy. 👍
Kevy Shaves Thanks Kevy, I appreciate the advice. Learned the hard way about not applying any pressure the other night but managed to get it right earlier. Still not 100% sure I'm getting the angle right although I guess that will come with practice. Thanks for the tip on the Cool Cologne cream from Boots and I'll try to get some tomorrow. Thanks again.
those weepers are probably caused by putting too much pressure on the razor, I knoww hat you said, but you did use some pressure :P No pressure means no pressure, use ZERO pressure! It will actualy give you a closer shave too, but yea it's a habit from the cartridges, bit other than that it went really good!
I won't lie, coming back to this video it's hard to watch. Big fan for several years, and you're shaving WAY better! My first DE Shave was with a Razorock Mission, LPV by Caties Bubbles, Astra blade and Omega boar hair brush.
Joshua Davis Thanks Joshua. I would hope that 2 years of practice would've improved my technique! Lol! Still feel like I'm learning every shave and still loving shaving this way. Do you still use any of the things from your 1st de shave? Cheers. Kevy 👍
I have been watching your videos recently, as I am wanting to start DE shaving. I just watched you 1 year celebration video which then took me to this video. Well you certainly have come along and are a pleasure to watch, I always have a smile on my face.Keep up the good work...
Thanks for,the kind words Matt. What are you waiting for? This way of shaving will save you money...lol! At least that's what they told me! Seriously, since I started shaving this way my skin and face has never felt better. Let me know how it goes if you do decide to start DE shaving. Cheers. Kevy 😀👍
Hi Kevy, well I have taken the plunge and after a lot of research, I have purchased the following...30 x Astra Superior Platinum Double Edge Blades 1 x Edwin Jagger 3D BLACK Chrome Safety Razor 1 x Edwin Jagger Ebony Synthetic Fibre Shaving Brush (Medium) 1 x Proraso Green Tea & Oat Liquid After Shave Cream 100 ml 1 x Proraso Green Tea & OAT Pre Shaving Cream Jar 100 ml 1 x Styptic Pencil & Case 1x Edwin Jagger shaving mug 1x TOB sensitive shaving creamAs you said, I should save some money in the long run, just the initial outlay, but wanted quality items,,, just purchasing the items was interesting and somewhat addictive lol.Still waiting for my mug to arrive and then it will be all systems go.Thanks again for your such likable posts..Will let you know how it all goes...Cheers, Matt
stumbled upon your first Video now Kev. i have shaved now 4 times with my first DE Wilkinson Sword Classic..first time got red like hell on the throat area...even no presure got a bit better now though
Brilliant! Good to hear your a fellow DE wet shaver. Keep at it and each time you shave this way it will get better and better. Find out what works best for you by trying out different things - blades especially - and most of all...enjoy it. Cheers...Kevy 😀
Hi Kevy, I noticed that in these old videos there's a spot on your neck that is prone to cuts, that you don't seem to get much grief from now. I have an very similar trouble spot in the same place on my neck and was wondering what technique improvement you made to be able to shave it cut free. Could do with the help myself 😂
Instead of going straight down on the first pass, i go across the grain on that area. This seems to help. In some shaves, i forget and when i go straight down on the 1st pass, I usually end up with little weepers. You'll notice it in my recent vids. Let me know if it works for you. It also depends which way your beard grows. Kevy 👍
i can identify with challenging spots around neck and chin! started traditional shaving about 14 months ago- still experimenting with various blades- only have a Viking Chieftain razor at the moment. want to try a slant and adjustable at some point for sure. thanks to you and many other youtubers im trying to apply those best practices of shaving!
Kevy Shaves Here's my first shave! I was quite nervous to cut myself really bad. It's a very different experince comared to cartridge. Will never use them again. Loved the DE shave😃 ru-vid.com/video/%D0%B2%D0%B8%D0%B4%D0%B5%D0%BE-1ZxO-Cn6wXw.html
Kevy Shaves Thank you very much sir!😃 Felt like I was all over the place and I was much more nervous then it appeared on the video. Not easy speaking english above it all. Hope I made some sense!😂 Love this kind of shaving. So different and so much better then electrical and cartridge type of shaving. Thanks again for your inspiration. Cheers my friend!
Just seeing your first video. Takes a lot of courage to do, doubly so since it was also your first shave. It would be cool to see you do a reaction video to this one to tell us about your experience so far, and what has changed for you, and what you think you did right or wrong in this first vid. Along with any cool tips and tricks you picked up along the way. Looking forward to many more videos. Have a great day.
Thanks! That is a great idea. I think I'll wait until my one year anniversary to do a video like that. It's good to look back and see how I'm making progress in my shaving technique. Cheers...Kevy 😀
Yesterday's shave was based on your beginning videos: Merkur 34C Personna blade...I used the Razorock plissoft brush with Tabac soap. (it didn't leave any slickness on my face between passes, but wasn't bad during the shave.) Then Thayers cucumber ( I prefer lemon or rose) witch hazel, and then Fine Green Vetiver splash. I think to get an even better shave I would use KShaveworks soap or Cella, with Thayers lemon, and clubman pinaud splash. I'm going to try that tonight (It'll be the second use on the blade.)
+thortheviking Excellent setup you have there! Some great products. k Shave Worx soaps are awesome. Great performers and the scent on them is amazing! Nice one 👍
