Today I’m going to be doordashing using Doordash earn by time for the first time. This is the first time my market has gotten earn by time doordash. In this video, I’ll be doing 15 hours of Doordash Delivery all using earn by time and at the end I’ll be showing you my total doordash income and if I believe earn per hour is worth it!

Earn by time is a great way for a Doordash Driver to make more money while on active delivery because you will now get compensated more if there is a longer driver or slow wait times at restaurants. Unfortunately this new Doordash Pay method doesn’t protect you from no tippers , in fact it actually doesn’t show you the tip at all until after you complete the Door dash delivery. I feel like the Earn by Time is where all of the no tip orders go because no one in their right mind would take them, but sometimes, even I can get fooled in to taking them because the base pay and peak pay is high that makes it worth it.

Worked last Friday night in Raleigh NC didn’t get a tip on 4 different orders. Worked the Suburbs Tuesday and got a $13 tip on one order, it really is just luck sometimes it seems.

The only time you should be taking Earn by Time is when you’re trying to reach Top Dasher or if you’re doing night shifts during the weekend when drive thru lines are long as fuck

@@leskobrandon9872 yep, thats it. Gotta click confirm pickup before you start getting paid. It’s not worth it, I did an order one time and it took me 1hr and 30 mins to get the order and deliver it and I got paid $11 bucks

Guys here's a tip, take your time and to get there yes, but if it's a leave at door order, take the picture and don't confirm it until you drive back to your hot zone, as long as you hit confirm by "deliver by" youre good, pays you for driving there and back

EBT is good only on certain days, if it’s really busy I would say it’s the way to go cause it also helps bring your AR back up. I’ve have 4 stacked orders last night on EBT I had 8 active hours on 8:30 dash time so it was pretty good for someone who’s accepting every orders. Oh and I made $164 and a couple change. I was dashing between two cities back and forth so it kept me busy all night. Not the same experience today so far lmaoo I’ll come back to keep y’all posted 👍🏽

I'm going to try and do a whole week on EBT. I typically will throw it on and by 3-4 orders in im like but what if I'm missing awesome catering bag required orders...rarely the case lol😂. @@traveljb I wanna actually give it a real try.

Alright update: after 8hours I made $121.69 with 6 hours of actives times. So it’s not the best when you think about it but the thing is you’re kinda prepared cause from the start you know you’re getting about $14 per hour so you don’t expect more than that( even tho you can get more with tips). But my AR is now at 76% which is great!

Earn by time orders are the orders that earn by offer drivers didn't want. These orders have been sitting and waiting. There will rarely be a wait time in restaurants. However, a day like today, snowy, messy roads, peak pay. It really pays to take your time and drive safely.

1 tip ill give you. They do lock ebt at busy times a few times a day now in my market. So turn it on when its open and just pause and keep repausing until youre ready ro work! If you plan to do it often.

Earn by time can make you bank if you know how to do it. I drive to my state college, then put on earn by time. I take an order, click arrived and I wait 15-20 min. to pick up the order. Its a 50/50 whether id actually have to wait for the food. Then i drop it off to the dorms .8 miles away. Its always peak pay around 9 o clock so i make about 8-12 dollars driving a mile and a half consistently. It takes about 30-35 min from order placement to customers delivery, so hopefully nobody says im a jerk bc ive ordered food that took 50+ min before and i didnt bat an eye. So if you really cant afford to jack up you car miles, colleges are the way to go. The food is always piping hot.

Do they have a way to detect when you are intentionally slowing yourself to get better pay or do they just take your word for it?

@@Admirious They don't know if the food is or isn't ready when you click "arrived at _", so when you wait for a while, the app just assumes your waiting for the food to be prepared. So in short, they don't know and would never find out. I've done about 400 orders this way, and so far no problems. Just make sure you remember to click "arrived" when you get there, so you don't get a CV for arriving late to the restaurant. You will never get a CV for waiting to pick up food. Your on time percentages might go down, but it's not grounds for deactivation and doesn't matter. Mine's at 54 percent and I've never had an issue. They try to intimidate you with it, but in the manual or whatever they call it, only completion rate and CV matter in deactivation. Mine went down when I first started, so if yours ]is good it shouldn't go down much I think I'm just maintaining what I had. They're supposed to adjust/ bump up your on time percentage, by taking wait times into account at the end of each month too. EDIT: If the college is on vacation, I will do this for regular orders (4, 2, 6, 8 miles ect.) and I always average at least 2 dollars a mile

When I need to take a break to eat, Ill order on an app somewhere, pause my dash and go in and get my order. Then Ill sit down and turn my dash back on. Sometimes I get orders for the place I am at so I can just eat while I wait for them to finish my order

The benefits for me of earn by time are rarely monetary. I find it to be more chill. No stressing over traffic, long drivevthru waits etc. I choose it late night in suburban areas with all drive thrus and no sketchy areas to worry about accepting a delivery to.

Right?! I’m in Phoenix as well. It started off great with tips for me then all of sudden it went a bunch of no tips & out of zone. Last night I had a delivery that took 52mins and I was paid $13.99 for both customers no tips. Only thing that it did was get my AR up

I remember making around $200 a night going from 4-11 on uber eats mon-thur. Then fri-sun I'd make 300+ a day doing 7-9 hour shifts. There was no scheduling or anything like that just you couldnt exceed 12 hour shifts without a 4 hour break i think? But now I see videos it seems rougher.. I really didn't doing the deliveries either. I'd just throw on tons of podcasts and cruise along, was fun to learn the city(ATX metro area).

Yeah it’s definitely gotten a bit rougher, but that’s my market, some markets are still doing great and I have great days here and there. And I totally agree, the freedom to just drive around listen to music and podcasts, pick up some food, drop off some food, see some cool places, houses, or restaurants you’ve never been to; you really can’t beat it

So I use Earn by time probably 90% of the time, what you said earlier about no tips is pretty true, but also the part where you said your orders were ready majority of the time. I think that Earn by time is the left over orders and that regardless if it’s a good or bad offer the regular pay by offer doordashers don’t take.

Wow. We dash fairly close to each other. Like you, I just got EBT in my zone and have been figuring some things out. If you wanna make money with EBT, I found you need to learn to pace yourself. I basically time myself from the moment I accept an order to when I'm back in my car after dropping it off. I try to shoot for every mile driven to take me 4 to 5 minutes averaged over the entire time I am on that order. So a 5 mile delivery will take me 20 to 25 minutes thus making it profitable for me without counting on a tip. Funny thing I found after doing nearly 50 hours of EBT in my zone is about 80% of customers leave a tip. It's just low when you consider the mileage. If I work Allentown, that number goes down dramatically. So the zone is gonna matter.

Oh, I HATE triple stack orders! I have started to realize the smartest thing to do is if you already have two orders, push the button that says pause orders after this delivery and that has worked very well in eliminating the triple stack order because nobody is happy when it takes 40 minutes for them to get their food. and not happy equals zero dollars of tips. Of course, these days, even if I fly at the speed of sound, I still get zero dollars in tips.

Hello fellow PA Dasher 👋 .. i know this was a month ago but what I've learned is that EBT will give u further orders to try to pad your earnings which, in turn, reduces your time actually dashing. So, on busy weekends and nights I'd stay with earn by order, on slower week days I'd go with earn by time.

only thing that sucks is. it does the time when dashing. not waiting. so u technically lose money. soon as i got off it i got a $13 delivery 10 miles and back to go back 10 miles🤦‍♂️

I just started dashing, I've mostly done earned by time. Sometimes it's not allowed. Most of the time I'm earning $14.50 -$17.50 an hour. With 19 hours of dash time I'm at $20 per hour and I'm at $25 per hour in active time.

As someone who door dashes on a motorcycle. Earn by time seems like a really big hassle. I couldn’t carry 5 pizzas on a motorcycle even though I have a food bag that’ll carry pizzas but only 2 large ones

Earn by time is when you just feel like driving, while taking an order or two. No rush to deliver it unless you like speeding.

If u work in a big city ur gonna make money regardless if u accept all ordered or cherry pick. I’ve tried it all I make money no matter what . It’s not that hard of a job just drive until hit ur daily goal. Easy not complicated

Love it man, I've been in some of the same spots as you. I deliver in the sellersville zone, did the king of Prussia zone for a year. I've switched to instacart recently to do fewer miles but still doordash sometimes. Anyway I love watching your videos and it's cool were in a similar area.

Working for a pizza restaurant I'll tell you this . The drivers they have know the regulars who never tip so they will expedite door dash to take that order because the drivers will whine about it so the managers select the door dash option for customers that are known to not tip....

That pay was horrible. You didn’t deduct any gas , wear and tear insurance and money for repairs as well as taxes . You split the money you made in at least half and that’s your actual earnings which is less then 150 for 15 hours which is right around minimum wage

Yes and no. You're already paying for insurance, so that's not an additional cost. Gas depends on how fuel efficient your car is, but a reasonable estimate is to deeuct ~$2/hr for gas. Taxes are minimal after deducting $0.665/mile - you're maybe paying taxes on about 1/3 of your income from this - you could set aside about 10% of gross income from this (maybe another $2/hr) and easily have enough for taxes. Lastly, you don't do this with a brand new $50k car. You do it with a 10+year old beater that has depreciated to near nothing anyway - only real maintenance are oil changes and then run it into the ground. Overall, realistically, you're probably netting about $5-$7 less than what you're grossing I'd say.

@@TheNDubbs gas in my area is over 3$ a gallon if I drive my car for an hour I’m using more then a gallon of fuel , I drive a 2014 nissian maxima , average about 20 mpg and most deliveries are city driving so your getting even worse gas mileage, and this is a pretty standard car , yea there’s cars that may get better mpg but this isn’t nothing crazy . And yes you do have to pay extra for car insurance, if you get in an accident and the insurance company finds out you were doing Uber/DoorDash without notifying them, they may reject your claim, that’s why when you sign up for insurance they specifically ask if you do rideshare or food delivery because if you do they charge you more money for your policy. And maintenance includes brake pads rotors Tires oil changes other fluid changes due to the amount of miles. You’re putting on the vehicle and that’s just the regular maintenance. then you gotta account for any breakdowns or other parts that may fail, which can add up to thousands very quick . Just for a set of four tires can cost up to $1000. And if you’re doing Uber or Lyft, then you cannot just drive a beater car, you have to have a safe vehicle, which means somewhat taken care of on the interior and all the suspension parts and so needs to be up-to-date. After all these expenses taken out, your left with close to nothing and most definitely below minimum wage. Uber and DoorDash should be enough to where All these expenses are covered and your making at least $15-$20 an hour profit

It’s also important to realize that the gas / mileage write-off you get, simply means that even the government realizes you didn’t make that money. You’re still getting taxed on all of your profits

when I was dashing I always did the earn by time and id always be quick to get the order and drop it off. but once I started to doing the pay by time i would except the order take my time. and if i get the early I would wait in my car until it was time to go in. then when i left the store if i got to the drop off location before the deliver time id wait until it was about 2 minutes until drop of and then take. this is your job make every second count.

the problem in my area is minimum wage is only $10.25/hr. I tried pay by hour did 4 orders all 0 tips made exactly the 10.25 for the hour. On pay by order i can most the time average 19 to 23 per hour. So the pay by the hour is just not feasible in my area.

They just released the earn by time in my zone when I filmed this, so they had $4.50 peak pay in my area, I guess to have more people try the earn by time setting but whatever the earn per offer peak pay is, they double that number for earn by time because I guess they figure you’ll do 2 orders an hour. That’s why it went up $9 ($4.50 x 2)

@@traveljb I pack some sandwiches/snacks and munch in-between orders. If I order food I will wait until after lunch rush over, I pause and take a 15 or 20 min break and then back at it. But packing some food/snacks is the way to go, saves a lot of money.

I did it one time, and it will probably be the last. I had 2 offers 4 deliveries. 3 were from a flower shop drove like 40+ miles and i food delivery which tip $5. Base pay 14.50/hr. All together 33.07 for 2 hrs. It just didn't seem worth it.

Suggestion. 2009 Generation 2 Prius can be had for like $5000 if it has 170k miles or more on it, but can last up to or over 500k. It is the best yr for the Gen 2 models. If you want a little newer, get a Generation 3 Prius best yrs are from 2013 to 2016. 2010 to 2012 have to many issues. I have a 2013 Prius myself and paid $9000 for it, in 2020. Had 109k on it, and now 254k. Did brakes myself as they were original. Other than that oil changes and tires is the only things that have been needed. I get 54 to 58 mpg provided not running heat or air and 48 to 54 mpg if I have to. AC will eat up more gas then heat. Best car I have ever owned, in 40 yrs of driving.

Now my camera is pretty expensive because I also use it for travel videos and photography for different companies so mine is the Sony A7S II, it’s a really good camera. But a great camera for starters that’s not absurd, but still has outstanding quality is the canon g7x mark II
