Still Clean off booze 2021 and forever
Feel free to check out my regular wellness channel videos almost every day
When I thought I had alcoholism beat, clearly I was WRONG.
I took a drink after over a year sobriety, only to find out the first thing I needed to do was LIE about being OK.
Problem drinking ruined my life and I was stupid enough to try and control the addict inside of me.
My new sobriety date is September 8, 2017.

I'm 15 moths sober and don't want to have a drink because I don't want to deal with the mind games that will come along with drinking. When I drink I feel like drinking until I am drunk, so there's no safe limit for me, I just have to stay clean, I'm really not missing anything!

This story is so real. I've stopped in the past, dumping a bottles of beer, bottles of vodka. I drink 8 drinks every 3~4 days. I got tired of waking up tired and hating myself. I am in my 3rd week sober and I feel much better. I have a case of beer, 1.7ltr of vodka in my closet. Just staring at them and testing myself... Today was hard but instead I worked out with pushups and squats. God help me.

One of my best sober friends took one drink 1 1/2 years ago. He is now drinking round the clock, suicidal, and walks out of hospitals and detoxes again and again to drink more more more. Lost his house, lost his State Job, his car, he was still alive yesterday, I’m not sure about today. Drinking for the alcoholic is a death sentence after a drag through hell. Ive not drank for 26 years, I never want that torture again, easier to stay sober than to get sober.

What a story. Scary. I recently reread the Doctor's Opinion in the Big Book so that I could read about the "phenomenon of craving" and how true it is--once alcohol gets into my system, I cannot control my behavior. I'm 32 years sober and to stay there, I go to 5 or 6 meetings a week, do several regular commitments in AA, sponsor several ladies, have a sponsor (that I use), and I pray every day. I never, ever want to go back to that kind of hopelessness.

in 14 days it'll be 2 years sober... I filled that void with road cycling (10,000km a year and increasing)... I don't want to drink again, and have no desire to. I know without even going there that if I did drink it would be to oblivion as it was before, can't undo that amount of decades of programming/damage. I think back to the hangovers, and really that was what became my biggest problem- never lost a job (came close before quitting), relationship, home, licence etc... I just could not deal with the crippling depression and anxiety (the "fear" we call it in Scotland), the hideous shakes, sweats, puking on an empty stomach... All that gone now....hopefully forever. I have a (poly-using)heroin addict brother, he now has morphed over into drink more than anything and it's frightening seeing him now with all that crap to deal with on top of the smack monkey I know he'll never get off his back either. He said to me (as he's not worked for 20+ years) he was stunned that I could still function, hold down a job etc realising now the states he's waking up in, and that trying to regulate and stop his drinking is way harder than coming off the smack.... I (just?) got away with it, but I knew I was at my rock bottom crossroads and hard decisions had to be made....

@@lumpygravy38 You can do it and wishing you the best in achieving it. You'll probably lose many (if not all like me) "friends" who you'll realise were just drinking buddies and who cannot cope with your sobriety as it holds a mirror up to themselves (cliched, but true).... I once read a thing about drink being your "centre of focus/attention" (can't recall exact term!), it just means it was once the main focus and you did so many things around that, and in quitting you need to find something- hobby, sport, whatever, to become that new central focus.....

Ive been sober (besides a beer at chrissy) but before that about 4 years ago I was drinking as much as a bottle of vodka (straight, 750- 1 litre) every other night. I never really thought it was a problem, it took me ending up in hospital for 5 days with the worst migrane I've ever had and it wasn't just that everytime I moved i felt sharp pain shooting through my head. I then realised ok maybe I have a problem but I still continued to drink. But then shortly after my partner threatened if I didn't get my act together she would leave and take my kid with her. I was also at high risk of losing my.job ad I was constantly fucking up jobs (I was in construction) and I couldn't even level soil properly. Long story short I went cold Turkey it was hell and believe me its easy for people to say just stop well unless you been through it yourself you have no idea. Life is way better without alcohol. It also dawned on me afterwards how much money I was spending on alcohol. We were living on minimal just to barely get by and at the time im like well we are poor thats just how it is but now I realise we were never in poverty in the first place we had money I was just spending it all on that without realising how much I was spending.

I quit alcohol in 2012 for a whole year. Then in 2013 I thought, yeh I've go this under control, I can have a drink now and again. So I had one, then next week I had two then three and so on. In three months I was right back where I started. It took until 2017 until I tried again. It's true what you say about the lies, our addictions lie to us using our own voice. Once I truly believed there was no 'safe' level of drinking, once I accepted it, the quitting wasn't hard. At least not for me. Now coming up to four years free, and I couldn't be more proud of myself. Whatever else I've screwed up in life, quitting is one of the milestone decisions of my life ( at age 61 ). I've lost over 20kg and look and feel better than I have for many many years.

I encourage anyone who cannot stop drinking once they start to stay sober. I am one of those that can take it or leave it, drink or not drink. MPOV? Better to not drink.

I was able to get sober back in 2004 after many years of off and on sobriety and I’m still sober today with just a little over 20 years of sobriety and I owe it All to God and the people that I work with in and from the program I’m in. 🙏🙏🙏 If you are struggling with this please do not do this ALONE because It’s Not Easy for Most People who have this Addiction to Alcohol 🍺🍷🍹

I will look into the CTE as im curious now thanks for that. I had to cut everything off completely so no booze its been 3.5 years and I look at that as a past mistake not to repeat. @@SpiritFitVices Thanks. And I think it's important to remember that recognizing it isn't all there is to it, but also realizing that every time you think "aw I'll just try moderation. It's fine, I just won't let it get out of hand this time", that's not you. That's the addictive little worm in your brain trying to trick you. What really solidified my sobriety was realizing that if it wasn't going to be a problem, it wouldn't be so hard to say no to that voice. Normal people don't have an issue saying no and not giving it a second thought. The harder it is to refrain, the bigger the red flag and the more emphatically you should say absolutely not.

@@gracefitzgerald2227 i could only recommend a try at Soberclear with Leo Sylvester. The system is not AA based and got me comfortably off alcohol after 40 years. This happened because the system is a brilliantly simple approach to reframing alcohol in the mind so the cravings and constant pressure to drink just disappear. Very successful track record based on how every other technique he had tried had previously failed until he invented his own. I have not paid a penny for any direct advice and do not work for him. Enough was available on RU-vid and the private Facebook group for free that i have never felt compelled or harassed to sign up to any $ programme plus i am 100% off the booze snd don't want to drink either. I think for most it won’t work. I however use to drink daily for years. I stopped for 6 months. Got sober and I do drink again but I keep it strict and never break my rules. I limit myself to 1-2 shots of vodka at a bar and or at home 3-5 beers max. I also only drink now on holidays and or events a few times a year. It takes a lot of discipline but if you have the understanding to stick to your rules you can still enjoy it. I say again though for most this will not work. I’m fortunate to have the discipline. If you can’t have 1-2 drinks and put it down you haven’t earned the right to enjoy it period.

It’s one day at a time, one hour at a time, one minute at a time. Drinking doesn’t start when a person has a drink. It starts in the mind when we begin to lie, living the lie, convincing ourselves that we are great, then telling ourselves and others that we are fine. That stands for f…..😮 up, insecure, neurotic, emotional. We don’t see it in ourselves. All our friends know, people around us know, family knows. We are the ones who don’t know. Not looking at ourselves closely, clearly, honestly. Many die living this lie. Call someone. Be responsible for your actions. There’s no blame, hate, excuses. We are all the same. Come back home. You will be welcomed back with open arms. Until then…..
