First drive! 1949 Diamond T 306 - Detroit 4-53T - Roadranger RTO-6610

Finally got the Diamond T out on the road. Just a quick drive to warm it up and make sure everything is operating properly. No fancy video on this one, but the audio is good and the ol' Detroit gets to sing. The truck is a 1949 Diamond T 306H that I've transplanted a Detroit Diesel 4-53T and Roadranger RTO-6610 into it. Stay tuned for lots more video and audio!

Damn that engine sounds nice. I have a line on a 921 I am thinking about. Been waiting for u to get this on the road - very nice job - hope u do another walkaround vid now u have windows :)

Very cool. I have a 1956 GMC 2 ton truck I’m working on putting a 6V-53 with 10 speed in. It will be cool. But not as cool as that Diamond T

Hi Sir, what are the make and model of you dual alloy rims, and your front rims also. Your Diamond T sounds fantastic.

Thanks for your comment. The rear wheels are Accuride 28844AIP, which are 22.5" diameter and 7.5" width. They have the modern big rig bolt pattern. The front wheels are very rare. They are Alcoa 863100, and are 22.5" diameter and 6.75" wide. These have the 6 on 8.75" bolt pattern that my front axle has. These wheels were OEM on some motor homes in the early 90's, and maybe other applications.

Very nice old truck!! Can you educate me on the RTO6610 trans you have in this truck? How many speeds does have ? Do you know about what it weighs? I'm restoring a 1967 Dodge D300 I have several 6V53's laying around I would like use one in my truck . I need a good idea for a transmission. I was thinking about a 7 speed Spicer but don't like the way they shift. I can run air on problem . Any info would be appreciated thanks

Wonderful looking truck tell me about the transmission adapter I have a 453 and I'm trying to figure out what tranny I want to use seems like everything needs an adapter

I installed a SAE #2 flywheel housing on my engine. The clutch housing on my transmission is also SAE #2, so they bolt right up to each other. I knew what I wanted to do from the start, so I found the SAE #2 gear that matched when building the engine and transmission. I believe SAE #1 was also possible on these engines.
