So I'm watching on my TV , when I got to the part where I saw 2 MG's in the garage I had to go get my phone to comment. First thing, love the project , secondly, I currently have 2 MG'S in my shop , 1 B and 1 Midg.

Congrats on the milestone, looking good! I drove my Suzuki 3-cyl swapped 71 Midget around the block about 8 years ago, hasn't moved under its own power since..

Thanks! Mine hasn’t moved since the test drive yet either 😛 I’ve had a lot going on the past few weeks but i’ll be getting back into the build real soon! Hopefully it won’t sit for 8 years…

Well done. I'm about to tackle the same job in my '74 chrome bumper B. I love the car but the drivetrain is just unworkable in modern traffic. Enjoyed seeing it move around under its own power.
@ModernGarage

Yea, when i bought the car my original plan was the rebuild the original engine, but after driving it around the block, i wanted more and then impulse bought a miata… and i’m so happy i did! Thanks for the support man, good luck with your build!

@@ModernGarage Thanks! I've done the install once before on an Exocet; quite a bit easier as that was all nut/bolt assembly and not a lot of fab work. I'll probably try to stick to a 95/96 1.8L as I'm now very used to that ECU and its control systems. It's hard cutting the Miatas up; they're such great cars. But there are fewer and fewer MGs on the road and they deserve to be kept alive. This is a great swap.

@@darrylyoes414 I pulled my 1.8 out of an 02 Miata. Be for warned there was a lot of Fab work to be done on my 73 to get this to fit right. I had a good driving Midget but needed the extra gear and HP to pull our little teardrop camper. The 1275 with her 65hp just wasn't cutting it on any of the hills. I still have the 1275 and tranny in my garage, but there's no turning back now. Se e you on the road Glenn and Jane An American Couple

@@AnAmericanCouple You don't have that engine/tranny in your garage any more. I bought it from you to put in one of my projects! (...and I thank you for it!)

Thanks! This was completely straight piped with just headers and a down pipe, it now has a small muffler on it just to tame it a bit. Hopefully it still sounds good!
@rodshop5897
@rodshop5897 2 года назад
Nice to see it running under its own power! Always good to get that validation. Once you get the engine management dialed in to reduce the idle speed and maybe build some torque (seemed really low torque compared to my 1500 Midget) you should have a sweet ride!
@ModernGarage
@ModernGarage 2 года назад
Thanks! The idle definitely needs to come down, but in terms of torque, I’m assuming you’re talking about the high rev to get it moving? That was just me being a little hard on the clutch pedal 😛 i think it’ll be just fine, but we’ll see the more testing we do!
@rodshop5897
@rodshop5897 2 года назад
@@ModernGarage Ah, I understand being a bit high-revving when testing out a new set-up! I was just comparing it to the stump-pulling low end of my 1500 motor. Granted, by 3500 RMP it was all out of wind, so it made a good tractor engine. I look forward to seeing your refinements and improvements as you go.

Well.... No fan and a pretty small radiator. That will never fly in Florida! I'm using an S-10 Rad in mine, But yours is running mine is not. great job! don't let people tell you Midget brakes are no good. that is not true. Good Calipers, pads and fluid and they work well. They stop mine and my Teardrop camper behind it. See you on the Road Glenn and Jane An American Couple

Excellent! Well done. Very exciting. Looking forward to the next installments, and to see how you can improve brakes. Steel braided lines? Brake booster? 4 wheel disk brakes (there's a kit you can buy for the rears)? The brakes on my Midget are disturbing. You kind of have to stand on them to get them to work effectively.
@ModernGarage
@ModernGarage 2 года назад
thanks! Yea the brakes work, just not confidence inspiring 😛 might just be that i’m not used to manual brakes, but i definitely need to do something before i do a quicker test drive

Bravo! It was my 1st time for 1 of Ur vids and U were right... It was great. My 1st convertible was a '76 MGB that I sold to family and (long story) lead to a '94 Miata taking its place... Which I bought from family 19 years ago and still have. Added a '99 NB much more recently too. Obviously, I loved watching your video! BTW - the brakes sucked on the '76 B :)
