Aaaa agreed! I’ve had goldfish all my life for the 19 years I’ve been on this planet and they are absolutely amazing and intelligent fish! I hate it when people see fish as less than compared to other animals. They deserve the love and care just like any other animal whether it be a dog, bird, snake, etc! ❤️🐠

@@CornBeanSoupyes! I think sadly, most people see fish as just county fair prizes, totally without personalities and entirely replaceable. Anyone who has spent time watching fish can tell you that they certainly all have individual personalities, likes and dislikes, and FEELINGS just like any other living creature ♥ why shouldn't they deserve just as much devotion and dedication and medical care as a dog or cat or a show pony? It may be "just a goldfish", but a goldfish can become part of the family too.

In Australia if a human is bitten the hospital stay the anti venom and everything else is free.

Everything is expensive here. And not even available! My vet is 15 minutes from me (without traffic) and they told us antivenom for a rattlesnake is $800 per vile and only lasts a month. There is no anti-venom for coral snake and that’s the other dangernoodle we have on the property. People are dead in 4 minutes. A dog wouldn’t last two

@@Cindy99765 almost lost my cousin cause she had 5+ dental abscesses and dental insurance here is expensive and pretty much useless. Medicare didn't care at all and wouldn't pay a dime. Somehow her mom got the $10k to save her life. The girl had these for 10 years and could never get the money to fix it. I don't know how the infections didn't kill her years ago. Dental work is also insanely priced.

We kept fish for many years. They were great for teaching the kiddos about life cycles. We had a white gold fish for 7 years. The kids missed him when his number came up. Then we headed out to the fish store and this time they wanted tetras. We raised those for many years. There are pets you get weepy over but a lumpectomy on a goldfish? 🤦 that fish doesnt understand pain or stress. A procedure like that is all about the owner and their need for attention. It has nothing to do with the swimming garbage cam.

Second of all: There are starving human babies out there, and you get upset about a comment I wrote? You may as well put that energy elsewhere more productively. And third: If common sense isn't enough, you don't even need to make an hour long research to find out that fish, in fact do feel pain and stress. Is it like a human's perception? Probably not, since they're animals, but so it is the case for any other animal with similar mental capabilities. Yes, fish are good first pets for children to teach them about life cycles, as someone who kept nothing but fish since childhood I absolutely agree. But reading your comment it seems to me that you genuenly have no empathy and not only try to invalidate my, other people's and possibly even your children's feelings, but also think that some animal companions are less worthy of a second chance than other pets, and that's just a very sad thing to wake up to.

This is just a btw- I am not a vet, but I have a good friend who is. If you can get through the pre-vet (and you have to stay at the top with that- way more competitive than pre-med, med school), consider universities outside the US with whatever others you apply to. Aside from being cheaper, they won't necessarily have waiting lists. My pal graduated from the University of Edinburgh, worked at a clinic as a small animal vet for a few years, and just got her masters in Aquatics (yep, back in Edinburgh). Good luck!

This is going to sound stupid - but are you sure it wasn't a redcap? I had redcap orandas for a while. really pretty fish, but their headlump can grow too big and start covering their eyes and stuff. Even know someone who had a massive oranda and they put him in surgery to trip the cap.

There is a whole 'collectors' market for unusual fish, and there are doctors who actually perform plastic surgery on fish to make them more attractive or to correct physical defects. Check out the Asian arowana (also called dragon fish), or google cosmetic surgery for fish.

It may have happened all in one night, or it may have been too dangerous of a situation to have anyone try to address it, unfortunately. If a gator is being territorial about other gators in its area, you better bet it’ll flare up about a meat sack of a human dropping in to get the other gators.
