A visit to the underground workings of Restormel Iron mine in Cornwall.
This mine was originally named Trinity mine when first opened in 1797, and renamed the Restormal Royal Iron mine after a visit from queen Victoria and prince Albert in September 1846 where the royal visitors even took an underground tour of some of the workings.
In the most productive years of greatest output between 1855 and 1876 Cornwall never even produced 1% of Britians iton, the area being much more well known for its production of Tin and Copper.
Restormal Iron Mine eventually closed in 1883, with its equipment sold off and buildings removed.
All that remains are a series of open work pits which follow the line of the workings, some of which still have some access underground at the bottom, which we visit in this video.
Hope you enjoy. Don't forget to subscribe for future mine exploring videos.
