Now, We gotta correct a few things Riley said in the video! We are not perfect here, we build a lot of different trucks so remembering all the data off the top of your head is hard 😅
1. Fuel mileage. Most first Gen owners report low to mid 20s mpg. The Nv5600 in this truck could be helping, but we are seeing nearly 30 mpg in our tests on the freeway.
2. Lee Iacocca retired in 92, so this truck would be like if you special ordered one from him in 92 😂
3. Turbo housing is a 12 cm turbo housing, not a .84 a/r. A/R housings usually refer to turbos on powerstrokes, not turbos found on Cummins

7:31 NV5600 do NOT have double overdrive, 5th gear is 1:1 and 6th is 0.73:1 great and beatiful looking truck!

Any of the 6 speeds offered by dodge are "single overdrive". The difference between the 5 speeds (g360 or Nv4500) and the 6 speeds split 3rd gear on the 5 speeds into gear 3 and 4. gear 4 on the 5 speeds becomes gear 5 and gear 5 (5 speed) becomes gear 6. I've read that customers wanted less gap in that area when towing. I just NV4500 swapped my 1990 D250.

HA! No, its a left turn/right turn only. That incoming car has to turn right, and I had to turn left.

7:30 The "stock" dodge NV5600 is not a double overdrive transmission. 5th gear is direct 1:1 Is there something special about that particular transmission? NV5600 Transmission 1st 5.63 : 1, 2nd 3.38 : 1, 3rd 2.04 : 1, 4th 1.39 : 1, 5th 1.00 : 1, 6th 0.73 : 1, R 5.63 : 1 Getrag G360 1st 5.53 : 1, 2nd 3.02 : 1, 3rd 1.60 : 1, 4th, 1.00 : 1, 5th 0.77 : 1, R 5.03 : 1 (the stock 5 speed in the first gen Cummins) You are correct though, the splits in the gears were too tall in the G360 transmission. The lack of power (compared to the newer diesels) compounded that frustration at times.

Why Chrysler didn't pair the Crew Cab with that first gen Cummins is beyond me, but like you said this truly is a unicorn. I would love to park this in my driveway and sell my 1st Gen single cab. Great looking truck, look forward to the chance at winning.

I’d recommend watching the history of first gens by w350crewcab on RU-vid he covers everything from the crew cabs to the t300 which I never knew about which is actually the original name for the second gens but was dropped due to unknown reasons

Fantastic truck👍. My 2004 Cummins that I bought new with 280 k on it doesn’t drip oil. .I did have to replace trans cooler lines that leaked a couple of years back when I had the transmission rebuilt and upgraded at 265k.

Dreamed for about 8 years about getting a first gen dodge ram Cummins perfurebly an extended cab 4x4 . I would love a crew cab but figured they were ether extra rare or non existent. Also like you said almost impossible to fix do to lack of parts. All in alll thow beautiful truck that i would love to have. Meanwhile I will drive my econo box as new trucks are to expensive and and a good used diesel are hard to find for an affordable price.

Beautiful truck. I’d love to win that. I’d get rid of my 2007 PowerWagon. Two quick things. If the wing window whistles it’s likely a bent roll pin. You might install a new roll pin and see if that fixes it. Second you should do the headlight relay upgrade if you haven’t done it. 1st gen dodges eat headlight switches for lunch.

Good idea on the roll pin! Ill give that a try this week. Every truck we own, even with new or rebuilt wing windows, whistles above 45. It doesnt even phase me.

Do you guys ever have a parts breakdown of the parts you use on these builds? I have a '91Extra Cab W250, and I'd love to build it to kind of mimic this build, as far as lift (springs), and those bumpers! Any help would be greatly appreciated.

Gun rack.... and then fluid film everdamnthing. Had a kit that I put on my jeep. It was a 10 speed bike shifter with cable on the lever that you attached to the throttle cable. You could clutch and brake while using the 10 speed bike shifter lever as a finger throttle. Put the lever on the stick.

We used part number NEW-M2-270-670. When you get the radio, you'll only use the brackets on the side, not the top and bottom. The other modification is you have to flip the rear upper knob upside down so it'll clear the gauge bezel. It's slotted so it can go on either way. That's it! No really modifications, just install notes!

VE pumps are less efficient than P pumps. You can't get anywhere near 30mpg from either truck without a really dialed in propane injection system, especially a 4x4 on 35s.

The reason dodge didn't have a quad cab with the Cummins engine is because Ford actually owned the license to the Cummins and since they also owned international they allowed dodge to have the Cummins license so long as dodge didn't make any 4 door trucks for the first generation.

Incorrect. This rumor was put to bay several years back. The facts are....yes you could get a Cummin in the medium duty (F650/F750) as well as an Allision transmission, but that was it. Ford purchased Cummins stocks (I think about 10.8%) back around 1990 but the stocks were bought back. Ford never owned Cummins at any point, merely invested in the company. That being said, even with this invested interest they had no pull or say so as to what light duty truck dodge (now ram) put a Cummins in. The fact of the matter is that during this era, 4 door long bed trucks were not a very popular choice among any manufacturer...I have heard of rumors that Ford and GM had something to do with the phase out of the 4 door at Dodge but I would suspect that they made to choice to help keep them a float. Why invest in something that was not popular even with Ford and GM. Also remember, these were 1st gen Cummins. They were new and had not gained the gold standard badge yet.
