First hunt with the Freq Ultrasonic game call! “The Northport Naughty Cougar”.

I got a call to respond to an area with an insane concentration of cougars near Northport, WA. All the homes in the very small, very rural community was seeing many different cougars around their homes daily. The residence I responded to is home to a single mother with a young son who had two cougars in her yard, 80 yards from her house the evening before I went out.
I’ve used other electronic game calls for years. When I learned about the ‪@FREQcalls‬ ultrasonic game call, being the modern hunter I am, the science behind struck me as both sound and revolutionary.
I’ve now called in 4 cougars, in two states, in 20 months, among other animals. On this, my first outing with the Freq call, on the first set, I called in an adult, 6+ year old cougar, with a belly that was already full.
The immediate difference I saw is how this cougar approached the call. Instead of sneaking in, as most usually do, she came in running at full speed, jumping over obstacles to get to the call. Thats something I’d never expect from a mature cougar with a full belly.
Results speak for themselves, this wise old cougar would not have came in like that, on a full run, with a full belly unless what it heard was so authentic that she knew for sure there was an easy meal to be had. That’s the Freq difference.

It is good that you get rid of the cougars. When i was in my 20s i was drunk in my backyard fishing. Near Brightwood oregon next to the sandy river. There was a teenage cougar that jumped on my back. Darn thing wouldn't get off and got me to the ground. I was sober enough to understand i was being attacked so i started to bounce my body on its body until it let go. It bit into my backpack but did get me with the claws in my back. Took the bacpack after we screamed at each other. Scary situation. Sobered me up quick.

Great job. Not only are there too many cougars in Northeast Washington and North Idaho, the wolves have absolutely changed their behavior. Cougars are constantly getting bumped off their kills in the backcountry, and that is a huge reason why we have so many cats in suburban areas. These cougars have learned to get closer to human population to get some refuge from the wolves. I have seen more cougar kills in the last two years than the previous 15 years combined.

Over the years mountain lions have adapted it to hurt more in Pairs or even a small packs of up to five cats , becoming more effective at killing deer and elk this way due to the numbers and being able to have Tactics and hunting similar to the Way that wolves hunt as a pack
@TrailHiker52

The only cougar "packs" you will see are a female and her 2 to 3 juvenile young. It has always been this way. They are not pack animals like lions in Africa.

@@TrailHiker52 that is what exactly what I thought S I pressed the man. He insisted there were more cougars than a mother with young, their just adult’s hunting together, unlike a pride of lions. You need to talk to more people, like Ray, who have witnessed this firsthand.

Great video, Im in Northern California in my area there is a lot of cats and bears. A day ago a young man and his brother were attacked the older brother succumbed to cat then cat attacked the younger brother causing severe damage luckily he was able to get away from the cat until sheriffs arrived. In this area there are several trail cam pics of several adult cats traveling together. Ive also seen a photo of 5 cats feeding on one steer in the area. Unfortunately people don't understand how dangerous these animals are especially to people in rural areas of the state. I believe the numbers are down played to protect predators that are thriving and overpopulated.

Conservation of all species is crucial in our time after years of inappropriate policy’s. Looks like you are doing something that few are putting into practice. Looking forward to see what you can get done without a bait pile.

Congrats, that’s crazy to call in a cat in a rural neighborhood, but unfortunately due to poor management that’s what we face.

Hunted deer on the western side of the river from Northport beginning in 1968. Loved it when we'd get a tracking snow, which happened a fair number of times under the late season structure when it used to open the day before Thanksgiving and run into early December. Too many changes have degraded the resource and the experience too much for my taste in later years and I last hunted there around 1991. Main reason I'm chiming in is to ask if you've ever thought about hunting cougar in spot-and-stalk conditions? While I haven't been in the basin for ages, I found a place in the Glacier Peak Wilderness Area that actually presented that potential in 70s and 80s and probably still does. The same basin usually had great bear activity in early October. Let me know if the thought intrigues you -- we can discuss it via private conversation mode on a forum such as Hunt Talk.

That’s how I started hunting cougars actually, before I had an e-call. I’d look for tracks and follow them wherever they led (not pleasant at times, lol!) I did find animals that way and cougar kills as well!

@@apex-livingwithpredators8379 Cool! America's bears and big cats have long interested me, but I never had an overwhelming desire to hunt them; and I certainly never wanted to shoot cats or bears out of trees where hounds had brought the animals to bay. Hunting Bighorn sheep, Mountain goats and deer in alpine wilderness country was my primary interest, as you might judge from my RU-vid avatar photo. Competing for top spot among my interests was hunting Roosevelt elk, preferably via tracking in the surviving strips and patches of old growth timber remaining on the Olympic Peninsula in the late 1970s to mid-1980s. However, I will say that the thought of either tracking cougars in that high country I mentioned--I encountered their tracks, lots of them!, in the alpine rocks above timberline where they were themselves hunting Mule deer and Mountain goats--or hunting them by the same spot and stalk methods used for hunting sheep and goats has long intrigued me. Unfortunately, life's exigencies absorb more of our time than we sometimes recognize while the process is happening. Now, I question if I could even access that country while carrying enough gear for a sustained hunt. Thought I might pass the prospect on to someone who might have the burning desire 😁. You have my respect for what you are doing and how well you articulate the reasons to non-hunting folks. I wish you continued good hunting.

I got stalked by a female mother cougar while fishing about five years ago. One of the scariest things I've encountered over the years. Literally had this 200lb cat about 40 feet behind me, prone, creeping towards me, she had her cub perched under a tree about 30 feet behind her, teaching her how to hunt me. Thank God I had some friends not too far away, that cat was looking to eat me, watch out for cougars out in nature...

I call Coyotes. We cannot shoot the cats here. Cats are uncanny. They frequently respond but are 100% GHOSTS. They FLAT APPEAR, OFTEN VERY CLOSE! Now Im calling in new England in woods. So NOT OPEN SPARCE COVER STUFF! I try and set up to force them into an opening. Force them to stage where Ill see them before they see me. But more times then I can remember. They will be close and looking AT ME! Good stuff man. Congratulations!! ❤❤
