First Impression Fishing Daiwa Alphas SV TW 800S during Early Fall via Swimbait. Spooled up 300 ft of Varivas 8 PE 1 Gou, I throw a 1/8th oz Articulated Jig with a 3" Z-Man MinnowZ swimbait. It rocks really well! I started off with 8 or 10 lb mono, but added on a 20lb leader due to being cut off by pickerels. The bass seemed to be not in open water, but close to wind blown structure. pickerels were mixed in same areas while bluegills, crappies and perch were everywhere!

This reel does not get enough recognition. Love mine and I reach for it before the new Zillions and Metaniums. I have 10lb flouro paired to a Daiwa Rebellion M power rod so it's regular duty reel for me.

That reel. Is pretty sexy. Unfortunately, I have been hearing some bad ones, especially the slower gear ratio ones :(. Mine is good tho. Gonna keep this one on the kayak always!

I have the same reel on a 68 blazon bfs. Great reel cast small 3g blades and up to 5g 75mm daiwa double clutch. I prefer it to my zillion. Going to try it out this summer on giant herring top water with duo pencils.

Mmmmm zillion! Definitely feels better as it's a higher end reel. Speaking of which, I should really take my long cast spool from Roro and finally use it on the zillion! Thx for the reminder!

@rawrfishing Managed 3.6g cranka crank at consistent 20-23m brake 8 with little effort. The wind was up abit today. I'm pretty chuffed.

Love the content. Thank you for it. My thoughts on this reel. I kayak and wade fish the upper Tx coast. Regularly I throw 1/8 oz spoons, weightless soft plastics, 1/16 oz jig headswith 2-3 in plastics, and very light Buggs lures. One of my goto setups is an old 18 L power Suppressor rod. It's paired yup eith a JDM Zillion spooled with Verivas 8 1.5 GU. It casts everything I listed beautifully. I also regularly use a ML rod with either a curado 150mgl or a lews custom lite. Both with 20lb suffix 8. Both those cast the same lures listed very well. All that to say, I see no niche where this reel would fit in. I don't see it doing actual bfs well, and other reels ( diawas included) do everything it can. The same can be said for the new KK Kestrel. I really don't see a need for these reels when we are talking non bfs.

Thx for sharing your experience and thoughts. I'm still figuring out where this reel gonna sit as well. Potentially it will be for my heavier finesse stuff 🧐? I can see this is a versatile reel that can do some bfs. Don't think I will keep it on a L rod tho. ML and likely a M rod. So much exploring to do... I'm such a tackle junkie 😂

Love new 800s...this is the spool the Alphas SV should've have come with originally tbh. I have mine set up with 8lb fluoro and using it for weightless plastics on my Steez AGS Sensor rod

it's such a beautiful reel! totally love it. plenty of room for more line if i wanted to add more for running fish or even use thicker line, but i think my next time out, i will try 0.8 gou line and perhaps just 200 and call it a day for the rest of the fall trip! :) nice Rod mangz!

Thx dude. Yeah I got to put on a short 20lb leader so it can take a bit of beating before they take my lure. Only for side is that If I fish light lures in deep water, it really changes my fall rate dramatically. So I would have to up the size or weight of lure to get it down. But it's the season for bites so let's slay hard

@@rawrfishing exactly, I usually fish 3-6' deep water with some deeper holes, most fish lately have been off bank, but very close? My brother cought his PB 6lb 10oz which I think told you lol, last Sunday and was where I got mine but was just feet from shore. Next trip all zman swimbaits and frogs, maybe😂

When I was getting into BFS I bought this reel by mistake, but returned it for the Alphas Air. I was taking a second look at it, but ended up buying a Zillion SV instead.

So you have braid to 8lb mono leader then to another short 20lb leader. Are you using uni-to-uni to join everything together? Great combo
@rawrfishing
@rawrfishing Год назад
It was actually 12 lbs Japanese mono, but that is like 8 lb American diameter. Then to short 20 lb. I have some clearer water in certain spots, but it was an FG knot from my braid to 12, the double uni from 12 to 20. I could have used straight 20 lb line since I was fishing shallow anyway, but once I go deeper, the thick changes my fall rate significantly on the lighter lures. But given that I will keep increasing size and weights as the cooler season kicks In..i might just opt for a 15 lb leader and hope for the best 😂
@mikeknott5117
@mikeknott5117 Год назад
I always use a snap here in South Jersey. Nine times out of ten it keeps the pickerel from stealing your lures, and I still catch plenty of other species. Probably no good if you're using lures less than 1/8oz but should be fine for anything 1/8oz or more.
@rawrfishing
@rawrfishing Год назад
Snap might work depending how deep the bite the lure. Wire Leaders would probably be best, but some bass might be wary tho. So I settle with just Thicker mono and pray 😂
@mikeknott5117
@mikeknott5117 Год назад
Also no good if you're throwing hollow frogs. The delayed hookset results in break offs almost every time unless you're using a wire leader.
@mikeknott5117
@mikeknott5117 Год назад
The bass don't seem to mind the snap (the bigger ones at least), but I admit that I actually prefer the toothy guys over the bass. I could possibly be catching more bass, but I would rather catch more pickerel and lose fewer lures.
@rawrfishing
@rawrfishing Год назад
Bass are fun, but pickerels and snakeheads are ranked above em in my books ;)
@mikeknott5117
@mikeknott5117 Год назад
At least in New Jersey! Better chance to catch a 5+ pound pickerel or snakehead than a 5+ pound bass.

I would like to know, does that reel 800 TW SV - Thumb bar press down as easy as a non Twing reel ? I've never casted one of the Twing reels before. I had a cheeper Lew's with a hard thumb bar, thats the reason I'm Asking. P.S. Do you think the shallow spool Alpha 800, would be better for mono 12 lb. Or less - 6 lb. Or the deeper spool. For 3/8 Sq. Bills ect... Also enjoyed your short Utube on Lefty's loop knot. Very Clear ! Thanks Ray S.
@rawrfishing
@rawrfishing Год назад
I would say the thumb bar is not hard to press on any of my Daiwa reels. I would say 12 lb American marketed line is a bit thick. Might not get enough line on there. I would say out Braided Line and tie leader on instead. Was using 1 gou Braided Line and had 300 ft on, but it had plenty more room for more

I am reaching out to you for some guidance, I am upgrading the bearings on my Alphas SV TW 800S, and I can't get the spool out, I fear that the bearing retainer pin has shifted to one side, which is why the reel won't pull out. Thoughts and maybe guidance perhaps you have run into this before? Thank you
@rawrfishing
@rawrfishing Год назад
That sounds interesting... I don't think that would prevent it from coming out. It happens a few times for some of my reels. I would reel up a bit and see if it loosens up as the spool spins and try again. Don't crank too hard. Just gently and see if it dislodges. I feel that the new flock of reels seems to be stuck a bit. I had peoblems with the Shimano alde bfs 22, but they got a bearing that got an o ring on it... So that might be an outlier. The Kestrels were a bit wonky and needed some man handling to come out.

@@rawrfishing RORO Ceramic hybrids, I don't have them yet. Recently swapped out the SDS ceramics with RORO ceramic on my KastKing Zephyr and it made a noticeable improvement, coupled with a KastKing Zephyr rod I can get a 1.5-gram trout magnet jig accurately out to 50 ft without effort which is an improvement. I am still on the learning curve.

I don't fish enough of that type of water to really know what jerkbaits would work, but I would choose spoons over jerkbait as it can cast far and goes deep.

Sounds like a user error. Most people over power their casts. Daiwa motto is about using less power to achieve distance and accuracy. With that said, no I'm good with my reel.
