Fishing lures for beginners...Fishing lures come in all shapes and sizes, and they can catch anything from bluegills to bass to muskies. Knowing when to throw a certain type of fishing lure can help you catch more fish and have a better time learning how to fish. We run through various lures including spinnerbaits, inline spinners, crankbaits, chatterbaits, swimbaits, topwater baits like Whopper Ploppers and frogs, and spoons.
I would highly suggest these items below as a great starter fishing setup. This rod and reel are not super cheap, but they will serve a person well for many years. A cheap rod and reel won't last all that long and eventually, you'll get a chance to use a nice rod and reel and realize that you were at a disadvantage with the cheap combo. It's worth the investment in a decent rod and reel.
Ugly Stik carbon spinning rod - medium light amzn.to/453HR9x
Diawa Regal LT 1000 amzn.to/455sw8f
Berkley Trilene XL monofilament line (6-8lb) amzn.to/3DBKjbs
Basic crankbait (Berkley Flicker Shad or similar) amzn.to/3DAB1fP
Small spinnerbait - Strike King Mini or similar amzn.to/3OzUwvv
Large spinnerbait - shad or bluegill pattern is usually best amzn.to/453Iikb
Small swimbait - Mimic Minnow or similar amzn.to/3qcQpft
Topwater frog - a small size and a large size amzn.to/3QjGcIL
Inline spinner - Rooster Tail or Mepps Aglia are my favorites amzn.to/3OcSqQL
Spoon - Little Cleo 1/4 - 1/2oz amzn.to/3QiN0X3
Z-man original chatterbait amzn.to/3YgbthR

So I’m new to fishing and went to the tackle shop and basically just bought a lot of stuff I thought is going to look tasty to the fish and some friends gave me a lot of their lures. Thanks a lot for this video, it’s really helpful that you show which fish is likely to bite on which lure and showing actual footage of you using it, when and where. All I’ve seen so far on RU-vid was just Product placement and not really helpful for beginners. Glad there’s still quality content out here!

Thank you! I grew up fishing with live bait only (worms/bobber) in WI. But now that I live in Texas, I want to expand to lures and fake bait (save $$), but I didn't know what to get or how to use it. I've been looking for 2 years on YT to find something simple like this. You explained the bait, showed how it works in the water, which fish preferred what kind and what ones to use in cloudy or high vegetation. Plus it was short and concise to keep the attention. Great video for newbies to lures.

@@FishingwithNat In doing research, I watch a video after this, and it made me reach the conclusion that this style of fishing is not for me. Below, is the comment I made on that video. Still, thanks again, your video is very helpful. And the solution I found is more like what I was planning on land. ___________ Great video & passion, but you made me realize something sad. I'm considering living in the woods, hunting deer & rabbits with a bow. But what got me into fishing, is me considering living on a houseboat. I didn't want to eat ocean fish, because I'm worried about the pollution that ends up in the fish, like microplastics & bad-metals....So I thought, oh, fresh water fish must be clean & safe to eat. But this video made me realise, all these lures that are used. Is this plastic safe to eat indirectly? Is it biodegradable? What about the paint on the metal lures? And you're straight up using LEAD as weights. And how often are these things lost, and left out there? I now feel like me, and the environment, are better off, getting a scuba kit, and shooting dinner with a harpoon gun, waaay upstream. Fishing is ridiculous. And those who catch & release for sport, are even worse, because they are not even eating the fish, but are still poluting the water with snatched lures, and all the lines that break, or purposely cut. Thank you for making me realise this, and fine tune how I'm going to eat living offgrid. This isn't what you intended, but you still helped me a lot. Thank you. ru-vid.com/video/%D0%B2%D0%B8%D0%B4%D0%B5%D0%BE-Nb8cApI1iqc.htmlsi=JAbuLt9CntTption

@@observingrogue7652 Thanks for sharing. I can address a few of your comments. There are certainly lines and lures lost occasionally. I don't litter when I'm out fishing, and I actually try to leave the spot cleaner than I found it by picking up garbage, bobbers, line, whatever. Regarding lead sinkers, there are alternatives to lead weights now. They are more expensive, but I use them and I encourage others to use them too if they can afford to do so. Lead weights are commonly ingested by diving birds and they die from lead poisoning. The safety of consuming the materials in lures is unknown to me, but fish are pretty good about spitting out anything that isn't food. In the grand scheme of industrial pollution, agricultural runoff, urban runoff, littering, etc., fishing tackle in the water probably plays a very minor part in contamination of fish. Unfortunately, heavy metals, PFAS, and microplastics are common in freshwater and saltwater nowadays. These things even show up in groundwater, and terrestrial animals like rabbits and deer can accumulate them from their food and water sources. As a professional lake biologist, I understand your concerns. Good luck with your off-grid adventures!

i was surprised kinda how well the berkely shad swimbaits worked for me. my lake is really shallow 14ft at its deepends and has thiiick vegetation soft easy to work with vegetation, but the pike and bass cant resist them, works almost as good as a topwater :) and they are affordable

I love fishing but I’m probably the worst fisherman around, in the last 3 years I’ve gone fishing about 3/4 times a year and haven’t caught a thing yet, but your videos have given me a newfound confidence to catch something next time I go out. Thank you so much!

Hooks of all styles and sizes, sinker weight assortment, black or red and black culprit curly tail plastic worms, top water frog or popper, couple different color style crankbaits, spinner baits, beetle spins, and football jig. It’s a start you’ll never really be finished.

Inline spinner ( rooster tails, martin panther and bluefoxes ) are the best fish locator for me . I have caught everything from catfish , crappie, salmon , walleye, bass and much more on them . Over 50 years of fishing so far in my life and still loving it . I go an average of 3 times a week year round .

@@FishingwithNat , and if you use them enough you can learn to work them right on the surface of the water . It works great that way if you see fish going for a hatch .
