With this channel I am basically presenting all the tests that I make for myself to fellow bass players. I had a chance to test a set of Temperas (it is the early version of the set) so I just did some recordings and edited a video. After doing this footage I got in contact with Tempera and we agreed that I should do a real review of the more recent sets. It's on my to-do list!
The Thomastic Spirocores on the gamba bass are the light model (3885),

Thank you so much for your channel i refer to it daily! And has been instrumental in my Journey from fretless electric bass inspiring me to buy my first upright bass a 50s Plywood Juzek.. Im having my bass setup and love the Aquila red springs and innovation line for pizz and arco, but these sound incredible! Thank you again, John Daryl.

My biggest takeaway from this video is that you and Lars need to release a duo recording. Wonderful playing. My preference between the two strings was Temperas all the way. I loved their warmth.

Both Basses sound great. But the Spirocore sounds brighter on the Gamba shaped Bass, and I wonder what’ll it sounds like with the Tempera strings? The Bass with the Tempera strings sounds nice and fat, with warm overall tones. Great video, Hervé. I’ve watched a lot of your videos, and as a Double Bassist myself for 45 years, it’s great to see someone like you that shares all aspects involving the Double Bass. Keep up with the great work, Hervé, look forward to seeing more of your videos. 🇮🇪👍

Thank you Pearse! Yes the "gamba" is a little more direct and focused, the "violin" is a little fatter and "wider". I didn't try the Temperas on the gamba. But at some point I will try the new hybrids on my third bass, the Rubner which I normally use.

Herve…you always sound great! I prefer the body and depth of the tomastics with pizz. With the bow though…Tempera are less harsh.

Thanks for the brilliant introduction. The temperas do go well in the duo ensemble. Delicate sound from the temperas as the spiros seem a bit on the rough side in comparison.
@stringmatrix
@stringmatrix Год назад
Thank you! Yes "delicate" is a good description. The gamba (spiro) bass is a little more direct so this emphasizes a slightly rougher sound.

Spirocore Weich on my Chinese laminate starter job double bass. Makes it sound like a much more expensive carved top hybrid. I play pizz most of the time. They're pretty tough to beat!

Hey Hervé. I’m using on my german bass a second hand set of basso probably first generation, and I love it. Same feeling , light , easy and deep sounded! Bowing is great also!

Assuming there was no doctoring of the audio I think the Temperas sounded better than the Spirocores. Btw, I think your bowing sounded great!

Hi, i don't if its the basses or the strings who make the difference but i prefer the Tempera for the E, A, D strings and the Sipro for the G string. Nice video and nice playing

Hallo Hervé, are you using the 'normal' spirocore weich or is this the 'dominant solo' ?!

Hi Eric, yes these are the real Spirocore weich (well everyone says "weich" but it says "light" on the package).

Oh right, I totally forgot to mention this: They are light. (3/4 3885, OW)

Thx. I had a good surprise when I switched from the Eva pirazzi light ( which I finally did not like at all) to the soloist spirocore on my French bass . I was expecting a narrow metallic medium agressive sound and I got a very nice balance on pizz . The lower tension seems to open the bass really effectively. But I was still lacking some low sound , especially with amplification. Basso do it for me right now. Best set since velvet anima for my expectations. Thx again.
@stringmatrix
@stringmatrix Год назад
Yes, I also had the impression that former Anima users will enjoy the Temperas. The Temperas are like 70% Anima and 30% Compas 180.

I'm not sure if the strings make the difference or the instruments. The Tempera sounds more extended in the lower ranges, yet not anymore or less boomy. Thus if one EQs the spirocores to sound as warm as the Tempera, they will develop more undesirable boom. Yet the illusion of just the right amount of scoop and warmth unaccompanied on the instrument might not articulate well mixed with the other instruments. With the guitar, the tempara cut just as well as the spirocores, in my opinion. My strings are ancient, I'm replacing them soon. I like these strings.
@stringmatrix

Thank you, yes it's difficult to compare strings that are mounted on different basses. But for an approximate impression I think it's OK.
