Why would they pic the same combat system/ animations as Troy when they know players did not enjoy it.

Hey bro as a fan of total war I have to say that this was a good 1st review, and props to you for stating that "its your opinion", lotta reviewers keep forgetting about that part and acknowledging the other view points

The main problem is that most people these days are hilariously ignorant. I can count on one hand the number of TW forumers who have likely read any of the surviving literature from the ancient world. As a result, the era is mostly unknown to many people. There just isnt the same relatability, largely because there have only been a handful of movies from this time period. Compare that to the number of sensationalized medieval movies, or Warhammer novels, army books and games (or general fantasy). The built-in fanbase just isn't there. There's no flashy samurai, no guns and/or pike and shot, etc. The game relies on a literary foundation to even have a shred of a chance at attracting interest. And that just doesn't exist in the youthful, ignorant gamer of today. The negative reviews have been interesting because they talk about things that all of the popular games also have to some degree. It's not like Warhammer has better sieges or AI. Shogun 2 still has terrible sameness among the factions. Attila still runs like a dog. Empire is ... empire.

People should give the game a try, its awesome, and the map is NOT tiny and small. Most people hating on the game don't even own a copy themselves, they assume its like troy. its not, i haven't had so much fun since Rome TOTAL war. i totally agree with you. I have now 60 hours in campaign, i haven't even explored more then 30-40%. The battle pacing is much better, controls are good. Now we have seen disastrous releases (TWR2) but pharaoh is a proper release, relative bug free and polished. i love this game. and i have played most TW series....But it has been a long time since i had so much fun with the series.

I'm a goon that has a simple mind.. I just enjoy the game for what it is rather than what I think it should be. Is it the best game you'll ever play? Nah. But it's far from the worst. I am not particularly fond of the era of Shogun 2 or Three Kingdoms, but a lot of people love those. It doesn't mean the games are trash, it just means it isn't necessarily my first choice because of the setting. I can't speak for everyone else.. However, I do think there is something to the setting being an important factor into how much one enjoys the game. Thanks for the upload. I appreciate the fair and balanced approach. so refreshing to hear a TW youtuber that isnt all doom and gloom I feel like most of them whine about every little detail that isnt exactly how they want it while you seem actually fair and openminded

I just picked up.the game, I love it, it feels solid, and like a great historical game again, which I have missed. I really hope they make more like this, with a bigger emphasis on formation combat, weather, and similar mechanics rather than being related to heroes or spells. I can also see how much effort and love they have put into accuracy, by not including for example cavalry, and as someone who is historically interested this is great. If they make more dlc I'll 100% be picking it up, and if you like me didn't play Troy, or Three kingdom, because of the hero aspect, and liked but couldn't quite connect with Warhammer, but loved Rome and Atilla, this might be a really good option!

You hit the nail on the head at the end of your video; the widespread hate for Pharaoh is a churlish, juvenile tantrum because we didn't get the Total War game we wanted (myself included) - Medieval III. Yours is the first review of Pharaoh that seems truly balanced. You're not shilling or hating the game, just stating your opinion and experience and it's a refreshing change from the other Total War Pharaoh videos out there. Thank you.

I think the religion buffs are easy to explain when you consider how zealous people were in this time period. The way I see the stuff like melee attack bonuses is your units fighting harder, with the belief that their god is on their side. All in all, solid review, such a refreshing change to all the negative naysayers that exist on the platform.

I beg that CA's hopefully new management by the time Pharaoh flops makes the necessary changes and course correct the company into what it was 10 years ago. That includes: - Giving Sofia the latest version of the engine and resources to make the engine improvements necessary to ensure the next game feels modern and that legacy issues and bugs have been finally fixed after decades (pathfiding for example). - Re-add the stripped down features from previous Total War tittles like naval warfare, family tree, Avatar Conquest etc. - Finally fix the battle units collisions and horrible pathfinding, - Add the 8 players + simultaneous turns COOP campaigns to ALL their future titles (not just Warhammer), - Go for more interesting and bigger time periods, - Release meaningful DLCs that feel more like expansions rather than cash grabs and finally - Remove the unnecessary denuvo crap from our games and then, only they will they go back to be a beloved gaming company like they used to be.

If you're really Religious/Superstitious like people were back then. If you think the God's were on your side, you would fight harder because of this since it would be a Morale booster.. Plus, the people in the army would want to impress their God with their Ferocity and all of that. It's kind of like at one of your Baseball games you have a MLB scout in the Audience. Likely, you're going to try harder and all those other things required, but to a max level to try to impress the scout. This is no different.

If you play it you will have fun. I have all TW games save the first Shogun. Most craved MTW 3 I know but Sofia did a good job with no help from the suits.

Never play Troy, probably never will 'cause of their hero mechanic. Pharaoh definitely a solid game, the same way Napoleon is to Empire. Built on better engine, run faster, perform better, look great, few glitches. If these trolls think old games are so much better, should just go play Med 1/Shogun 1, see how they like it or go back to Total Bughammer 4. This series has always been expensive since god know when, it's optimal to wait for sales for pretty much any titles they released. I hope CA doesn't implement 3K2 with 3K1 potato engine and stop engage in woke degenerate project like Hyenas, ew. Though I understand why they might need alternative cash cow, with fanbase like these, who need competitors? As soon as we saw the map and knew there were only three nation types, I knew that CA was cutting corners. I didn't need to see gameplay to intuit that.

Looks a bit cartoony for me, but still seems a great game for an entry into the series. For me, (playing since SG1) I'll skip it. Not interested in the period, no caverly etc...

I respect your overall opinion on the game even if I disagree. The total war community has a huge rift between fans who enjoy older (pre warhammer/Rome2) TW games and people who enjoy new (post warhammer) TW and the 2 could not be more different in terms of specific gameplay/style. Personally I find post warhammer TW games to be too Arcady for me and battles feel a bit underwhelming and I’m not a fan of the more recent level of copy/paste game pushing (I take your point that previous games have been copy/paste but in those cases the next addition always built on top significantly, atleast gameplay wise at a minimum, example is Napoleon being a vast improvement over empire in every way (except scope) to the point where it not only feels like a different game but plays different too). I also find the soul of these more recent games to be somewhat lacking, art styles/music seem to be relativity generic imo although this has been an issue arguably since Rome 2. All I can say is, if you don’t like the new stuff, I wouldn’t get my wallet out anytime soon, even if it’s Medieval 3 you’ll likely be disappointed bc this isn’t the same CA that made the games you liked. Pharaoh flopping a bit will undoubtedly get the attention of the shareholders and maybe that could spark a shift at CA, although I wouldn’t hold my breath. For people who like pharaoh/ new total war, all power to you, hope you guys are having fun. This is all just my opinion, not here to hate on you if you like the new stuff, just a total war veteran giving my opinion.

Sure we all want a new Medieval or whatever else but 90% of people who have played this game (myself included) think its at least solid/good if not better. For me its an 8.5 out of 10 based on what I saw in early access. Very excited to play the whole thing.

the game is practically a copy paste from troy, even the ambeint sounds on the campaign is a copy from troy, it failed because it is a copy practically an expansion pact for troy and they have pushed it as full price title so yes it might b good but not for full price, just compare it to the fall of the samurai for shogun or age of charlmagne for attila and it falls short, the battles in both expansions are superior and yes you might argue that it would be expected because battles in attila and shogun are the best in the historical titles, but then pharoa has a fucking full price, no matter how you slice it pharaoh is a dlc to troy, i i would by it for 15 maybe 20 bucks but for 60 bucks thats fucking crazy, and with do all respect to yo if CA gets away with this we will never get a decent historical title ever again they have ton of code to be copied and if they can get away with it they are going to do it again and again.

The problem is that everyone knows it is a Troy reskin & since Troy was pretty crap, most assume this will be too.

It doesn’t look like a bad game but I’ve spent quite a bit on the warhammer series alone. I’d rather save my money for a much more anticipated title, such as medieval 3 or empire 2. So my reasoning for skipping this is purely financial.

I think pharoah is a step in the right direction, improving a troy some and adding new features is great, but we still have some overarching issues that haven't been there since all the way back in medieval 2, I like the newer games and warhammer 2 is my most played actually, but when I play the old games they just feel a lot better that some of the newer games, research has been neutered to just stat buffs, when it used to be technological progression and was the best in empire, you could have no generals in armies, unlimited buildings just needing population to upgrade cities, formations are just stat buffs compared to testudo in rome, still hoping that in dlc they can add a lot of the things we were missing.
