As a Paraguayan, I can only offer you my deepest condolences knowing your first impression of my city was during the summer 🙏🙏🙏

Great to see you are enjoying your time here. As you noticed the country is a pretty laid back one where nothing happens too quickly, even more so once you are out of Asuncion. With the buses I travel in from Piribebuy from time to time and apart from the few routes I have learnt I'm looking in bus windows looking for a name of a place that is sort of in the dirrection I'm going

Deberias visitar Hoenau, si soy sincera hay muchas otras ciudades que estan mejor cuidadas que las calles de Asuncion. Estoy feliz de que hayas probado la unica sopa solida que los paraguayos comen 💖

If you still live in Asunción you should definitely try out an asado/bbq restaurant!!! “Lo De Osvaldo” is a pretty well-known asado restaurant in the city center, and they also serve some clever twists on other national dishes so maybe their version of sopa paraguaya suits your taste better. Churrasquerias also serve good asado but that’s a Brazil-style barbecue so if I wasn’t a native I wouldn’t go to those first. Also if you prefer a walkable city I would definitely recommend going to the city center or neighborhoods like Villamorra, and there is definitely a lot of fun and movement but that is mostly reserved for the Asunción nightlife (which, for the size of our city is very diverse and dynamic)

Thank you for sharing. So what do you eat daily in Asuncion ? How much is the bus and how do you pay, credit card scan or cash ? Have you ventured to Piribebuy yet ? It seems lots of people are moving to Paraguy lately. 💛
@FutureFlyness
@FutureFlyness 2 месяца назад
You’re welcome. I cook everyday, don’t eat out much. Bus is around 1,400 to 3,600 guaraníes depending on the bus quality and route, you need a bus card, no credit debit or cash accepted. Never but I’ll put it in my list to check out!

@@FutureFlyness10°C/50°F tends to be the absolute coldest it gets here during the winter months (late June and July) but if you’re coming from a colder climate I think you can handle it. When I first came back after my first time living abroad (Flanders) I had a reverse culture shock moment seeing my friends completely covered up when it was only 15°C/60°F.

From January to May is very heated, from end of may to maybe october its more colder, like 41F to 70F, after that again temperatures can reach a minimum of 86 all the way to 117F, and it fucking sucks balls so hard. Im from the suburbs of Asuncion nearby downtown and let me tell you, the bus fucking sucks, they never on time, they are crowded, old, dangerous for the most part. Apps like MAS+ do have real time buses locations, so thats something at least. Asuncion and its greater area is where the most people live in the country, so if you put together that and lazy and often corrupt politicans you dont get a very nice area overall, but you cant compare with small cities like Encarnacion or Ciudad Del Este, wich i suggest you to definitely go visit.
@FutureFlyness

Hello, do you already have your citizenship in Paraguay? Are you aware of SMU? SMU is the Mandatory national service of Paraguay. I did some research, and I discovered that it is currently active. If you have your nationality, you are automatically at the service of your country, according to the law of Paraguay. Do you know if they are applying that law? Because that law does exist, it is Mandatory. If they start applying it, then you will be forced to enlist in the army, or pay a penalty fee

@duncanwierman @FutureFlyness You are both right, it is boring for superficial people who ignore all the culture and history of Paraguay. It is better that they look for a place more in line with their superficial interests.
@duncanwierman
@duncanwierman Месяц назад
@@Spiral_Arch I have clearly evaluated the country for Retirment and Lifestyle. Your backhanded insult is not needed. The comments will only show others what the people of Paraguay are like, so why not knock it off. Great documentation this has become for the major magazine article now.
@Spiral_Arch

@sirlion996
@sirlion996 Месяц назад
This comment is clearly made by someone who did not know even 1% of the country. I met hundreds of foreigners living in Paraguay, and they all agree that the meat is top-notch, if you at least take a tour to know where to go or not, it's just that the typical foods have a lot of saturated fats. And they complained about the streets in some regions, as well as the bureaucracy for certain documentation, but other than that there were practically no complaints. The few who spoke badly like you do were clearly bitter people.
@duncanwierman
@duncanwierman Месяц назад
@@sirlion996 I am not a bitter person. I am a travel writer. I wish I could say lovely things for anyone who wants to go retire there, but I cannot. I found it run down, the food of poor quality, and the weather is miserable. There is not a vibe of "happening" city. Its a very chill country. Some people like to leave cheaply and not much going on.. but when you have Argentina next door, its a much better choice.
@sirlion996
@sirlion996 Месяц назад
@@duncanwiermanIt doesn't matter if you are a writer dedicated to travel. I understand your point that you have become bored, given that you have not seen even 1% of the country, and even if you already have the prejudice that fun is synonymous with constant, very busy activity everywhere. The good thing is that foreigners who have that opinion are a tiny percentage and they do know how to appreciate the good things about the country. For this reason, I am grateful that you have decided not to return and that the people who really want to get to know the country in the first place are more friendly and with the intention of really getting to know the people (like other authentic travelers on this platform who did manage to do so). , and not have such a biased mentality, believing that they know too much about the subject when they only express extreme ignorance for not knowing in its real dimension a country so culturally rich and with friendly people who treat you like a family member, feeding you their exquisite meals like It happens very often in Paraguay.
@duncanwierman
@duncanwierman Месяц назад
I have seen more than 1% lol. I think that people should know both sides of the story. It is certainly not what it is made out to be
@duncanwierman
@duncanwierman Месяц назад
@@sirlion996 I gave a very fair review of the country. I am sorry that you are upset by it, but people should know its not all roses. I have to laugh that you resort to name calling and put downs because someone does not agree with you.
