You will never believe what I started reading today...The Tale Of Hilltop Farm!!! Found it in the library myself the other day, when I was "grazing" in there. Sounded interesting and I love Beatrice Potter. I always think of Spring also when I think of her. Another one w/ not very nice parents. LOVE R. Pilcher, so will have to read Snow In April. Do you know her son is a author also?! I remember Miranda mentioning Darling, so hope to read that. I wrote down about 15 recommendations; already started my TBR for April. Being from Lexington Massachusetts, had to read something about the Battle Of Lexington and Concord, so have 2 of those. That happened April 19, 1775. I remember all those parades, reenactments, vendors, food places, and of course when Paul Revere came riding through (literally); shouting"The British Are Coming!" After that, the minute Men would run over to the Green from Buckman's Tavern where they waited most of the night before. Wonderful memories and experience to grow up there. Patriot's Day is April 19! Great video! Thanks.😊
How funny you just picked up Hill Top Farm to read as well. I’ve just started it and am enjoying it so far. I agree that Beatrix Potter always makes me think of spring as well.
I like the idea of choosing a book by the first line. Several sound very interesting but I didn't take notes. I read the entire Jan Karron Mitford series years ago. Clean, wholesome books. Enjoy!!
I would read whatever strikes your interest the day you pick it up. I had to pack up most of my books because I am moving in July, maybe June. I saved one stack of books to read while preparing. I purged a lot of things before packing but I can honestly say that all of my books intrigue me now. I remember there was a time when no matter what I picked up, it bored me and no matter where I looked, I could not find anything that interested me. Now I do not have that problem and neither do you!
The Mitford books by Jan Karon are ones I return to over and over again, especially when wanting a comfort read. The audio versions narrated by John McDonough are fabulous!!! The few in the series that were narrated by someone else (WHY?!) are better just to read yourself, but I cannot stress enough the brilliance of his narration. How he does that many voices I’ll never know. ❤ He makes you not only fall in love with the characters and with Mitford but also allows you to know and recognize the characters by their distinct voices and personalities. I’m definitely having a tshirt made that says, “I’d rather be in Mitford!”
Hi Jen, I love your choice of books. I am going to read Snow in April by Rosamunde Pilcher & Enchanted April by Elizabeth Von Arnmin for my April reads. I love Miss Read books. I am making my way through the Fairacre series. My next one to read is Farther Afield. Happy Easter. Xx😊
I’d start with Miss Read’s Thrush Green series. And if I remember correctly, it starts towards the end of a school year because the carnival is coming to town. I’m several books in now and love the series. For some reason, when I tried Fairacre first, I had trouble getting into it. The Four Graces❤️❤️❤️
One of my favourites was 'It was the day my grandmother exploded' from the Crow Road by Iain Banks. The other is 'Call me Ishmael' from Moby Dick. The amount of words that this simple phrase has caused over the years, why not say 'My name is Ismael' . A great topic for vlog. Thank you.
This is such a fun way to decide your April TBR! Illyrian Spring is wonderful! I've been meaning to re-read it. Oooh what's the May P.G. Wodehouse? I love Jeeves and the Wedding Bells! It's super fun.
We are reading Something Fresh which is the first in the Blandings Castle series - you are welcome to join us. And I am very much looking forward to Illyrian Spring. 😊

Hi Jen!!! Oh my goodness there are so many interesting books! I want to try reading the Hill Top Farm one, because I started to read it a few years ago but I just wasnt in the right headspace then, but I really want to give it another go because I do think I will like it. We are taking our family trip to Italy and it is messing with my April reads! Of course the obvious choice would be a reread of The Enchanted April. I just finished reading The Great Gatsby which has a great first line! Lovely video! 🌷
I love Susan Scarlett but that’s the one of the series that I don’t have. I was on the fence after reading reviews. I’ll be interested to hear what you think about it.
I love your pile of possibilities and enjoyed hearing the first lines. Murder is Easy is a great Agatha Christie - I think they just did an adaptation on BritBox.
Thanks for sharing this great concept. In reference to a previous video, Dervla McTiernan announced her next book will be an addition to her Cormac Reilly series. Your wish granted!
@@jensreadinglife There’s a great interview with Dervla & Sulari Gentill at the Poisoned Pen Bookstore (if you can squeeze one more thing into your schedule!)
Thank you for the great video! It is amazing how first lines can draw you in to a book. In another video I heard you mentioned that you live in Northern California. I do to. I live in Berkeley. I am hoping to start a channel on book tube in the not to distant future. Any tips would be welcome. I am not very technologically oriented.
Oh we are so close to one another! I’m out in Concord. 😊 And how exciting to be starting your channel. If you want to email me (jensreadinglife [at] gmail) I’d be happy to give you some pointers. I watched a few videos they were really helpful in getting me started and I’m happy to point you to them. 😊
Have you seen the movie "Cluny Brown"? it's a very old one, thoroughly enjoyed it. Don't you love that edition of the book? Such a pretty cover. Enjoy your April reads! As always.... thanks for a few more recommendations! 💐
