Tash and I ventured to Xinjiang for the recent Golden Week celebrations. After hearing of the beauty of the people and nature of the province, we both wanted to experience the rich and vivid culture of the local Uygher people in the region. It is notoriously difficult to travel in Xinjiang as a foreigner during COVID times, which led us to book a tour as this was the most convenient way we could see the sights that we wanted to see.
We realise how lucky we are to be able to see and experience the Uygher people and their culture. Long may their customs and traditions continue in the future.

Thank you very much for posting your vlog that show what is really going on in Xinjiang, China. I also have been there two times in the last ten years. I was shocked by what I saw the first time I was there. It was pleasant surprise and so different than what I used to hear from Western media. There has been more and more baseless negative news and accusations about Xinjiang, China but Xinjiang is getting better and better.

Really thank you for posting the real Xinjiang to the world. I'm from Xinjiang and now studying in Germany. Every time when i heard the rumors about my hometown i just feel so unfair and angry. (And i am so powerless…Because I am Chinese, every time when i tell my classmates this is not true, they just think this is government's secret action, the common Chinese will not know it. But i have eyes! I lived in Xinjiang for 25 years! How can a bunch of people who never go to Xinjiang or not even know where is Xinjiang, know more than me about my hometown!) I still remember when i was a child, our life was still very poor. I lived with my parents in a mud house, every time when i can eat meat(maybe once in a month), i was so happy and appreciated it so much. Then our lives become better and better. Maybe now most of people in Xinjiang are still not so rich(look the gdp in Xinjiang compares to other province in China), but we are still fighting for our lives. I think for us common people, we just want a simple and happy life. I know Xinjiang is just a excuse for the Western countries to attack our government. But when they spread rumors and boycott the products from Xinjiang, of course these also hurt our common people so hard. Please don't bully Xinjiang anymore…

I was in Lanzhou last year, was amazed at the fact that pretty much every restaurant was halal, so was the general region (Ningxia etc). In Lanzhou there were some dancing aunties and I shazamed (or QQ’d) a song which turned out to be a Uyghur love song by a HoTian singer. Its become the single most listened to song on my QQ since then! I’ve been to Xinjiang some 10+ years ago, now I’m actually living here in China really looking forward to going again.

The MAIN reason why the USA western media falsely accuses CHINA of mistreating Uyghur Muslims is because they want to prevent the 1.6 Billion Chinese worldwide and 2.0 Billion Muslims from working together. Both these groups have been discriminated by USA and the WEST for decades and are more likely to work together. Chinese & Muslim nations working together will lead to US losing its dominance of the world. Plus this will gain Asia, Russia, Eastern Europe and African support too including the rest of the world such as Latin America.

I recently visited Kashgar from Nov 17 to 22 and it was my fourth visit to this city since COVID. It’s truly an amazing and beautiful city with such different culture, food and people from the rest of China. I was always pleasantly surprised when I get to see some local food items I’ve never tried before, something even more unique than those lamb stuffed pastries you tasted by the street. I’m from Guangzhou on the southern coast of China and the flight to Kashgar would take nearly a day including connecting time, but I still visited there for a few times and plan to go back again to discover more hidden gems. 😁

I've been to Kashgar, Karakul lake and the Old Town in 2011. It is incredible. The old town was there with many families still living in the houses. I can see from your video that a lot of development has taken place around Kashgar and looks more touristy. It felt very raw when I visited, with next to no tourists in Kashgar town. My friend and I were the only humans at the red mountains and didnt have that touristy entrance or boardwalk. At karakul lake we were the only foreigners (others were a family that lived in the yurt beside the lake). It was so surreal. Btw, we rented a private driver/car for a day.

The Eastern Turks and Western Turks actually joined China in the Tang Dynasty, and the Turkic king Ashina Sher was the general of the imperial guard of Tang Taizong. All the soldiers of the Eastern Turks and Western Turks were arranged by Emperor Taizong to live in the Chinese mainland, and some of them guarded the border. After the death of the Turkic king, he was buried next to the tomb of Emperor Taizong of the Tang Dynasty. China is the de facto country of Turkic orthodoxy, and the Chinese have far more orthodox Turkic blood than those who claim to be Turks. Uyghurs in China are in their own motherland.。Today's Turks are actually Greeks. This is genetically tested.

If you want to see the old Kashgar, there is a museum in Kashgar dedicated to the renovation project that cost 6 billion. Also, the movie Knite Runner was filmed in old Kashgar. That famous tea house in Kashgar is featured in that movie. old Kashgar was full of substandard mud houses with no proper sewage. It was not touristy at all. It may feel more ancient but you would not want to live in that kind of environment. Also, it is not that the Chinese gov decided an earthquake could occur, many earthquakes occurred in the area. A big one I think in 2006 ruined part of the old city that prompted the renovation.
@Lao_lu
@Lao_lu 2 года назад
Regarding the old old town. Xinjiang is indeed pone to earthquakes. In 2003 there were 2 earthquakes in Xinjiang which killed around 270 people. There was also recent earthquake last march which killed 3 people in xinjiang. One of my collegues is from Sichuan province. He experienced the devastating 2008 earthquake which left around 100,000 dead or missing. He spoke about this earthquake with me, it left him severely tramautised and changed him. It may be a shame that these old homes in Xinjiang are closed, since they hold memories, but old homes like this typically go into ruin. Over the years they become more dangerous. I think the government is planning to rebuild more homes in a Xinjiang style. but it takes time. Temporary solutions sometimes have to be made. If an earthquake were to hit this area, there would be many casualties. Don't regret not seeing the homes in use, many tourists have this view, but I think they fail to see the bigger picture. You saw first hand how development is helping save peoples lives. You witnessed a different kind of history. We can also see the culture is being preserved by the building of safer areas that remain faithful to the old style.

You see all the Turkic peoples living around China, right? Because the Turkic king was the general of the imperial guard of Tang Taizong. Before Tang Taizong died, the Turkic king Ash Nasher cut off his ear and asked to be buried with him. Tang Taizong was not allowed. When the Turkic king went, he was buried beside Tang Taizong according to his request. China is the de facto king of the Turks.

Foreigners can visit Xinjiang but it’s very strict. For example, you can’t buy petrol for cars in the region unless you have Chinese ID, many hotels don’t have the license to accept foreigners and there are areas that are closed off to foreigners due to COVID. As well as this, all of the prefecture’s have different rules regarding COVID tests and it all seemed like a headache and too much hassle. For that reason we took a tour as it was more convenient.
