In today's video, I give you my first impressions of the Allett Cambridge 43 cylinder lawn mower.
It's a cracking bit of kit. I've been using it now for a couple of weeks, so thought it was time that I gave my initial thoughts. I'll publish a full comprehensive review in around a months time.

Great review! Thankyou very much! You made some excellent points e.g. the rear roller helping reduce scuffing when turning on such small tight lawns- more turns = more damage so this helps massively

Cheers 👍🏻 It’s a cracking bit of kit! No lawn is too small for this, not even mine 😅

Got the hayter hawk 6 months ago because of you. So who knows, might end up with a Cambridge now too! 😅 cheers for the content mate. Always enjoyable and useful. And don't listen to any of the neg comments. Seems all of a sudden there's some jealous people in here taking pops but just ignore them mate and keep mowing. 👍

Cheers mate, appreciate that! 👍🏻 I'd say it isn't worth it, but it is 🤣

Nice review. The quick cartridge change and height adjustment are major improvements over the Liberty 43. The cartridges are quite expensive too, but adding the scarifier and verticutter over time will take the lawn to the next level

Cheers 👍🏻 They're the two I'm looking at picking up, but they may be post-wedding purchases now 😅

To get up my steps with the 43 I use an old scaffold board cut to size, with a batten screwed on the underside to stop it moving. 45 degree angle cut at the top for a smooth dismount 👍🏼

Great shout! A few people have mentioned sorting a ramp. Going to give it a crack in a few weeks.

Nice bit of kit. I think the grass comb at the front would be good for disturbing poa which may help prevent seed production.

Definitely got a bit of mower envy on this one mate ! My lawnmaster electric thing does the job but I'd love a bit of kit like that, especially with the option to change the cartridges ! Looks brill and lawns looking great. Love the vids.

Worth building a removable plank ramp surely and then just roll it up etc ? Not worth back damage etc

I had the same problem with those rubber bits falling off my Kensington. I think they are just to protect the paint when folding. Don't buy the aerator cassette, waste of money. I bought one,used it a couple of times,now just hanging on my garage wall. They barely penetrate the soil,plus you need a lot of weight at the front otherwise it just bounces off the ground.
@paladimathoz

That's what I was thinking. And they seem a bit tight when you put it in the upright position. Seems better without them. And I did think that about the aerator attachment as the blades don't seem to penetrate much. Looking at getting the scarifier and verticutter. Not sure I'd go for any of the others.

Allett needs to bring out a 14" or 35cm lawn, not everyone wants a 17" or bigger mower. Land is shrinking in size, and I'd prefer easier moveability. Would be good to be able to use Ryobi or Dewalt batteries as well, as they're very popular here in AU.

When you store the mower, do you sit it on a old bit of carpet or anything? I imagine the blades will be close to the ground and could catch on rubble or uneven concrete on the garage floor or in winter months any damp in the floor could cause the blades to rust?
@NoviceGardener
@NoviceGardener Месяц назад
I don't, but that's not actually a bad shout.
@canalboating

The comb on the front is to help stand the grass up before it hits the cylinder for a cleaner cut, Allett have a video about setting it's ht somewhere on youtube if you do a search
@NoviceGardener

Going to keep it high for now, but will have a mess with it once the bottom lawns thicken a bit more.

I had the liberty 43 and the grass box was horrible, the newer box is way better. I ended up selling it as i didnt like the box on the front with how my lawn was configured, i just couldn't cut up to the edges as the box would bang into the wall and fence. But it was an excellent mower and the verticutter was brilliant.

It does to seem less convenient having the bigger plastic box on the older models.

Nice mower mate, get a wee ramp built and save your back. Don't listen to the "my mower cost 100 quid" lot. They are probably typing that an a 1200 quid mobile phone 😂

Looks a nice mower but can’t justify the expense. My Bosch does nice stripes and was just over £100 when new 10yrs ago.

Why electric over petrol?
@Ray_ray11
@Ray_ray11 2 месяца назад
I won't go electric until I'm forced to.
@NoviceGardener
@NoviceGardener Месяц назад
Few reasons for me: - petrol mowers are quite loud, and with living close to neighbours, don't want them to be annoyed when I'm mowing at 7pm 🤣 - don't need to faff around with petrol and oil, just need to recharge a battery

Sexy.weighing up this or cobra fort.
@xJEC23
@xJEC23 Месяц назад
Same here, it’s the weight that’s putting me off, fine for the main lawn at 300m2 but also want to use on the 2 smaller front lawns. This review helps, I was worried about the blade speed varying with the mower speed but doesn’t seem to be an issue, total cost with the 3 cartridges I need is scary though. Too much choice, either will be way better than what I have today 😂. Any feedback @NoviceGardener on why Allett over Cobra?
@ALLETTMOWERSUK
@ALLETTMOWERSUK Месяц назад
@@xJEC23 Weight won't be an issue in terms of scuffing up the lawn as there is a differential in our cambridge and its smooth. What you don't want is a ribbed roller churning up your lawn if you have plenty of turns

Give him a chance mate, newly seeded bent fescue is gonna take a few months to thicken up and mature

How’s the neighbours lawn getting along. And can you remember the setting on the drop spreader when you sown the bent fescue seed?
@NoviceGardener
@NoviceGardener Месяц назад
Like Canal said, new lawn. Few small patches, but they'll fill in once the lawn matures and it gets more lateral growth. Neighbours lawn is looking decent. Isn't being as cut as often and is a tad longer, but looking good still.

Nice video thank you.. How do you get your lines straight after the first straight one as on the Hawk you can follow the front wheels but obviously can't on the Cambridge? Thanks
@NoviceGardener
@NoviceGardener Месяц назад
Was a tad tricky at first as like you said, can't use the wheels. You can just see the edge of the front roller beside the grass box. I use that to stay in line.
