I've been sent a Woojer Vest 3 - haptic vest - to review, so I thought I'd take a quick initial feel of it in Elite Dangerous while wearing the Pimax Crystal headset!
I'll be testing the Vest 3 out in a wide variety VR titles and will give some more in-depth impressions in a video within the next week or so.

Maybe I’m old fashioned but I just sit on the couch in front of my stereo while wearing a headset, the sound is piped from my PC with DTS surround, and my whole house shakes when I boost in Elite :)

That sounds pretty good!

I can do that too, but the Woojer is defintiely a different experience. You feel the rumble and vibration in a fundamentally different way. Much more physical. And it really comes into its own with an ATMOS surround source that varies the signal depending on direction. It's not for everyone, and you may or may not like it, but it is not an effect you can really get from high volume or a subwoofer.

@@ImmersedRobotI've been trying to get into this game. It has been so tedious. I've had a lot of fun playing squadrons now which is straight to the point. What advice can you give me? I've been having a hard time navigating to where I need to go.
@ImmersedRobot
@ImmersedRobot Год назад
@@kangjames2492 It might simply not be for you, but if I was to give you advice, I'd suggest not to think of it as a game but rather a simulator. It's not something that can be 'beaten', Elite is just trying to present you with a galaxy to explore and make your own way through. It's more about the experience of existing within it (in VR). First up, I'd suggest wandering around stations picking up very simple courier missions in order to get enough money to upgrade your ship. Like anything similar, the game opens up and gives you more possibilities once you're over the initial hurdle. There space games (like Squadrons) and then there are space simulators (like Elite). So I guess I can only say that it's not for everyone, and if you don't enjoy simply existing in the universe, then it might not be for you. Nothing wrong with that.

I bought one for my girlfriend to use and she likes it more than me. I absolutely ❤ it. It enhances everything movies, music, games it is adding another sensation to your gaming experience. Being able to feel everything you hear really helps make things more immersed. Feeling the explosions and Gun shots is Wonderful! But, the good thing is you're still alive. 😂😉👌😁👍👍👍

Bloody hell 600+ euro for a bass shaker... I made my own and attached to my chair, I think this better for cockpit sims as the sense is vibration comes for the ship/plane/car rather then something on your body. Got a 2 channel amp of 20 something euro and a shaker for 40 something euro around 3 years ago, added a second smaller shaker to my pedals recently.
@ImmersedRobot
@ImmersedRobot Год назад
Yes, it’s definitely not cheap. You might be right about the sensation of a bass shaker attached to a chair giving a better sense. I haven’t tried they, although it’s something I’ll consider.
@daviddahlstrom192
@daviddahlstrom192 Год назад
I haven't tried an under-chair shaker (though its been on my list), but I have used the Woojer in flight simulation, and it's pretty effective in vibrating the whole body in a convincing way; so I'd say its a valid and maybe cheaper alternative. The biggest disadvantage though is that its not terribly comfortable when sitting in a chair and must be connected. It's ok, but not nearly as convenient as just sitting down.

I have the previous woojer best and it's incredible. My recommendation try Vertigo Remastered from the beginning. Wait until you get into the vents with the fire at the start , very satisfying the close you get to the 🔥 Obviously Beat Saber and Pistol Whip and their ilk. are no brainers. The feeling of deploying your hard points in Elite is nice. better with a buttkicker under you chair though as it feels like the mechanics are underneath you.

I've been trying to get this to work with Star Citizen, but I don't get any sound once in the game. It works at the launcher but not in the game. Haven't been able to find anything online about it either. Have you tried it or been able to use it with Star Citizen?

Sup dude . If you ever tried the buttkicker how does the woojer vest 3 compare to it ?? Thanks
@ImmersedRobot
@ImmersedRobot 9 месяцев назад
I like them both in different ways. The Buttkicker is my go-to device for extra immersion in Flight Sim and racers. However, I have to admit that I seem to prefer the Woojer for NMS, and it also provides a great experience in standing games like Alyx (which the Buttkicker obviously won't help with - I prefer to stand in real life if I'm standing in VR). I think that the Buttkicker offers quite good value, especially for sim-based VR gaming. The Woojer is a little (perhaps a lot) overpriced imo, but that isn't to say that many people feel they get a lot of use out of it so each to their own I guess.

I would recommend a 50 watt dayton transducer mounted to the chair, with the controls attached to it so the entire rig vibrates. Gives an amazing sensation of being inside a rumbling ship. I had my doubts with the vests so I made my own with a small 18watt transducer. I can say it was a bit annoying and unrealistic. The transducer approach is the good one, it will blow you away.

I Look forward to more on this. Might be fun in Rez infinite? Comparison to bhaptics in sound mode? Comfort when seated?
@ImmersedRobot
@ImmersedRobot Год назад
I haven't tried the bHaptics to compare it so, but on the comfort question, I can say it was perfectly fine while playing Elite Dangerous. I had no issues with comfort whatsoever.
@scubasteve2365-
@scubasteve2365- Год назад
I have the Woojer V3 also, wife bought it for me for Xmas last year. Compared to something like the Bhaptics, and I don't speak from experience having tried any other than a WoojerV3, is that there is no data stream component to it that integrates into a game. Certain titles can use positional data or other feedback from the game to vibrate specific zones in a Bhaptics (maybe others) so you could feel getting shot in your lower left torso, rather than a total vibration over the whole vest. This was a feature that my WoojerV3 did not have last I looked into it.. I also found the Bluetooth in the Woojer to be worthless for VR gaming, perhaps gaming in general, because of the latency. It was extreme latency, not minor nitpick latency. While the latency could perhaps be in part caused by the Quest2, but regardless, not a workable solution in my opinion. Playing wired, other than feeling the cables, worked great and can give a signal boost to your heaphones as the amplifier in the Woojer is stronger than the onboard headphone amplifier in the Quest. e: in Elite Dangerous - the best transducer feedback I've experienced is the sound when traveling through the slot into a space station.
@ImmersedRobot
@ImmersedRobot Год назад
Yes, the Woojer is based only on sound and doesn't have a compatibility list for games with integrated bHaptics support. bHaptics (to my understanding) has 40 points of haptic feedback from individual motors. This helps with knowing which direction you were shot in FPS games etc. I believe the haptic effect in the Woojer is better suited to racers and Elite Dangerous however due to the simple noise of the game itself providing the feedback, but I could be wrong (I haven't tried the bHaptics, which also has a sound-based mode). I tried the Bluetooth component briefly just to test it via music, so didn't notice the latency problem for that use case. However, I can understand how it would be a problem for gaming. I'm generally happy playing wired for now - at least in seated games.
@antjones2281
@antjones2281 Год назад
Actually the latency comes down to the transmitter. When paired directly to my PC the lag was arse When connected to my external Bluetooth dongle with Aptx the latency was good 👍 plus the adapter I bought can pair with two devices at once so I can pair both the winner and my x-rocker chair and get the same signal. it's also easier to switch to use RoG ally and switch since the dongle just plugs into a 3.5mm jack.

I have the Woojer 2 and have been wondering how the version 3 compares. In either case, your assessment seems pretty fair. I actually love the sensations the Woojer provides, though I don't actually use it very frequently since its a bit of a hassle to setup up, and its impressiveness varies wildly according to source. As you say, its a nice enhancement in VR, but not a game changer (though it can sometimes come close). With that said, you definitely want to install and enable Dolby ATMOS on your machine and try some of the ATMOS demos available online to see/feel some of the best results from this thing. It is also (fairly) well known that the quality of your headphones will make a big difference in the experience and that direct connections (rather than wireless, for example) that eliminates any latency between video, vest, and headphones can be important. Thus, an ATMOS source combined with a direct wired connection to the vest and a separate pair of studio-quality headphones plugged directly into the vest is very much worth trying if only to tune and test what this thing is truly capable of. If the version 3 is anything like version 2, you will also almost certainly not want the effects turned all the way up as you will lose a lot of nuance, especially from a surround and/or highly dynamic source.

I believe people do pick up the Woojer just to enhance the music experience alone, although it has a lot of applications for enhancing the movie experience, general gaming etc. But to me, I pretty much plan on using it exclusively to enhance immersion in VR. That's not to say I won't be blasting a bit of Radiohead through it to feel the results!

I have the og strap. bought it for music but honestly I felt stupid wearing it in public so I never used it much. that said it kicked ass for music. legit feels like a subwoofer on your chest but since its sound based it wasn't great for vr. also the bluetooth (og kickstarter version so maybe its fixed now) had to much of a delay. also you could only bluetooth 1 way so you either need to still have headphones plugged into the strap or be able to use both bluetooth and wired from source. wired didnt have the noticable delay but at least for vr that meant an aux wired to strap and the headphone wire. I hate wires I'll just say that. strap has better use case than vest but again I felt stipid wearing it. im a chubby guy and that thing thing was like wearing a bra or something lol

Yeah, this is one of those devices whose price makes it tough to justify; but it also makes a really great gift for a tech nerd since, while they may or may not use it a whole lot, they will almost certainly get a bang out of it and appreciate it. That's how I got mine. Think of it as an expensive but pretty cool toy, and that's basically what it is.

I believe, the price is reasonable considering what it is offering. This adds to the overall experience while gaming. You won’t notice it right away. But, the more you use it. The more you’ll appreciate it. It feels like you’re sitting in a SUV with 4 15’ Subwoofers in the back. But, No body hears it or feels it except for you. It gives you that ‘’In the Club sensation. Definitely enhanced the experience. Everyone I let try it ❤️ it. But, they also complaining about the price! Not because it isn’t worth it. But, because, they’re just not into it as much as me. It is worth it for people like me that intend on using it. It is Awesome!
