11 yrs ago today I was in Glenfinnan with my kids and saw wild deer 🦌 just 10 feet from us and no one else around so make sure it's late in the day for the place to be quiet we are from Cork and love Scotland have a great trip
Thanks Stuart 🥰🥰 we heard it's expensive to take van to Lewis and Harris so thought about maybe going by bicycle and camping for a day or two instead (we are cheapos haha) but need to look into it more see the actual prices.
@@phillyandkeely no flies on the east side borders and the like for some reason dont know why but get some reppellent or cream I got bitten to death on Arran. Bute house on Bute Rothsey is nice place seasons in every room and a nice romantic story to the place - lovely place and great islans - You can climb some of the peaks on aArren n see some eagles - def go there as you like climbing ...
Midges, never encountered them, in all my trips to Scotland. Galloway dark sky park, only a hour from me. Just got back from a week touring the Highlands. Stopped in my stealth camping van at Oban, Eilean Donan castle, Isle of Skye, Loch Ness (did not see nessie), Inverness and Cruden Bay (Slains Castle, Home of Dracula). Enjoy your visit. Cannot wait for my next Scotland adventure, very soon. Oh yes, a trip over Bealach na Ba (Pass of the cattle) is well worth it.
Wow so many great locations Marvin, will have to add these to our map 🥰🥰 I didn't know about Slains Castle, so much to see! You think Bealach na Ba will be ok in our size of van?
@@phillyandkeely If your going to take The NC500 route, visit the Whaiigoe steps (your van will fit in the very small car park), Duncansby stacks (look out for Puffins) , Smoo cave and 100's of perfect sandy beaches to walk and admire.
I stay half an hour from you. At the Galloway Forest Park there is also a Red Deer Range and you can see the most amazing deer and there is goats further along too. If you are still in the area you should visit the SW coast some places to visit are Portpatrick, Sandhead, Ardwell, Mull of Galloway at Drummore is Scotland’s most southerly point. All of these places you can wild camp. Some places have signs up saying no overnight parking but nobody will bother you at all. Looking forward to see where you go next week. I’m from Stranraer xx
I’ve traded coffee for tea . I don’t have to get going in the morning . I’ve also changed from sugar to honey in the tea . Seems to help a little with the weight . Another crazy good looking food item out of that pan .
Scotland looks so beautiful! It's so good to see you guys back out on the road and having fun! I always love seeing your enthusiasm, energy and humor xo ❤❤
Awe delighted to see you back on the road. I really enjoyed your video Scotland is beautiful the further you go up the better it gets. Recommend Fort William. Looks like you will need to get something sorted for the midges🤔☺️💚 Veronica
love your blogs, you were at Loudonhill just outside Darvel where I stay . Did you not go up Loudonhill .the view up there is great.Look forward to follow your advertures
I used to run Kinloch Castle on the Island of Rum. I forgot to close my window and went to the wee post office/pub, with Kate my Aussie girlfriend. When we came back, I mean 10"s of thousands of midges lining my walls. We had to use the hoover to get rid of them.
Yay your back on the road. So many beautiful places in Scotland. If your fan of braveheart deffo go to Sterling. Such a pretty town and there's a monument to William Wallace there plus a castle. The Highlands obvs, go find Nessy 😊 safe travels x
End of summer is not the best time for dark skies in Scotland. The nights start noticeably drawing in at the end of August but even then it's still daylight after 10pm in SW Scotland. Dawn starts about 2am in the middle of summer.
Can't wait for the rest of this series. Love Scotland!! Glencoe is spectacular, Skyfall Valley (Etive Valley), Clachaig Inn, Nevis Valley and Harry Potter (Steall) Water Falls ... great jump into the Lower Falls in Glen Nevis. Love Spean Bridge, Neptune's Staircase, Commando Monument and the Witches Cauldron for a dip. Fantastic country, have a great time and hope the midges are tolerable.
Hey you two, looks magical over there, oh and if you get bit by midges and they irritate you, carry a little container of white vinegar around with you and as soon as you feel the itch, spray or wipe white vinegar on the spot and it should nutruelise the acid and stop you scratching yourself silly and driving you insane ❤
Awww thanks so much Debra!! Really really appreciate your kindness thankyou 🙏🙏 Coming to Scotland all the way from Aus! Awesome, we are actually doing some chatting about visiting Aus after Scotland haha
Hiiiiiii. .love the channel....you have to go North to the black Isle....near Inverness..Rosemarkie. Avoch and the Cromarty firth...we love it up there....its beautiful!!!!!enjoy Scotland 😊
I just shot coffee out of my nose when you said Scotland is large! It’s 500 miles around….! (The boundary length of the US is just about 11,000 miles.)
This is so exciting! It's so hot in central Europe we're considering heading back and road tripping Scotland for the first time. It looks so pretty! And yes, Keely, you're looking like a wizard with those muffins. They look bloody amazing!?
Welcome to Scotland! ❤ we were down in Dumfries and Galloway last weekend! Our first time in that area and we live in Scotland! We collected a telescope for a relatives gift from that area! Looking forward to the rest of your visit! ❤
Thoroughly enjoy watching you both here in Australia and thank you for keeping a couple of oldies entertained. Absolutely love Scotland and have some very happy memories of some great holidays there. Looking forward to next week’s episode. Happy travels. PS: those peanut butter muffins look really delicious.
A couple of weeks ago we went to the isle of Arran and it was off the charts gorgeous. As always your filling my screen with joy and appreciation. Enjoy the rest of your Scottish adventure x
Hi guys We enjoyed completing the NC500 2 years ago. We loved it 😍 Scotland is definitely more Vanlife friendlier than England/Wales. There is so much to see and we still haven’t seen all of Scotland yet! The Isle of Skye is definitely magical! The Fairy Pools are beautiful. On the NC00 Smoo Caves & Ullapool is worth a visit. There are many beautiful castles nestled alongside the many Lochs. The list is endless. Take your time and enjoy the journey. 😊
I didn't see any Otters there either, I think it's a ploy to get us there. My favourite place in Scotland is the Isle of Arran, you have no trouble finding good free parkups there. And the people are really friendly.
Thanks Dave, we have a few mishaps on the isle of arran this week, so looking forward to sharing that with you all. It's super beautiful and the people are lovely.
Hope you have a fab time up here in our back garden 😂 not sure how far behind your videos are but if you need any help on your travels give us a shout we are in Inverness have fun and enjoy
West coast is fantastic and East coast is very scenic. Skye can be very busy and some of the other islands really good such as Islay and Jura. Have a great time while you are here thanks Dave
I moved to Scotland from southern England last year and I absolutely love it here! I’d say May time is ideal to visit to avoid those pesky midges. Van travel and midges is hard though 😂 hope you enjoy the rest of your time here 💙🤍
New here, and aren't you two adorable, and survivors too? 😊 Welcome to our shores! We're a proper friendly bunch with ALL the stunning scenery! Have fun! Have subbed. Looking forward to following your journeys. xXx
Aaaaaahh this is my part of the world! D&G is a lovely wee part of the world. Loads of great wee wild camping park ups too. Midges are awful at the otter pool aren’t they? Right along the coast is stunning, not as bad for midges too. Xx
@@phillyandkeely the Drovers Inn at Loch Lomond will let you park up for free if you eat or drink at the pub, it’s the most haunted hotel in Scotland. Glencoe is gorgeous and there’s a free park up close to the Clachaig Inn. Always live music on there and loads of beers to try. Then across at Aviemore there’s the reindeer at cairngorm mountain resort, good park up there too. The reindeer just wander free. Our van broke down up there at new year, runaway engine. Had to get a new engine, finally back on the road again after four months of the van in the garage.
Hello! Isle of Bute and Millport would be a fab place to visit in your van. Also the 'Pineapple House' is an interesting building plus Culross too if you're in mid, central Scotland.
Citronella, peppermint, lavender and eucalyptus essential oils can be used as natural midge repellents - sprinkle some on your skin (if not allergic) or clothing and the lil suckers will avoid you (I find a mix of all 4 scents works best) xxx
We absolutely loved this, thank you. You two bring joy into our van (which is already a place of much joy I hasten to add!) every Sunday. To steal from your very own vernacular - oh my god we are so excited to see you exploring Scotland!
Love your accents.Welcome to Scotland 🏴.As a Scott's Woman for Midges use either Lavender,Peppermint, Citronella, Eucalyptus.Any of these mixed with water in a spray bottle deter Midges.Peppermint is good to deter Fly's,Wasps and Spiders 😁
Great to see you back on the road. If you’re going up to Assynt don’t miss the Drumbeg scenic road, Achmelvich beach and the Summer Isles. When you’re on the Drumbeg scenic road stop off at Assynt Aromas - their tea garden is a haven in the wilderness - and they do the best hot chocolate. I’d go up the west side through Ullapool to Durness and round by Loch Eriboll. The scenery is stunning but remember to fill up when you see a petrol station. Enjoy
Sounds like you've already passed by two of my favourite places near Stranraer - Logan Botanic Gardens and Castle Kennedy grounds. Still, carry on! The drive into Fort William is nice, go via Loch Lomond, then you've got the choice to carry on to find Nessie, or kick a left up to the Great Glen. Some of the islands are pricey to get a camper/van onto, but one you must do is Harris/Lewis - go from Uig on Skye to Tarbert, go south first to drive as far as you can past Harris, head back up to explore the Blackhouses, enjoy the bestest cleaniest beaches on the Atlantic coast (get up to Eoropie Beach if you can, far tip of Lewis), wander Lews Castle grounds in Stornoway, then get the ferry back to Ullapool before continuing the coast route around to John O'Groats. How's that for a recommendation? BTW, #1 son and I are halfway through our Japan thing - Tokyo, Hiroshima, now in Osaka, moving next week to Fujikawaguchi for a total change of pace. Walked off so much weight I'm basically akin to some sort of racing snake - well, one who still likes a curry and the occasional pie or three. Still hardly any footage, but a photo montage thing may appear hereabouts in due course...😁
Wow half way through your trip already, sounds incredible!! And thanks so much for Scotland recommendation, think we will hit Loch Lomond this week woop woop :)
Love your channel. My wife and I took our van from Florida to Scotland last year. NC500 is great, but don't miss the Isle of Skye. It's a must. You'll also need a midge hat for sure. Cheers from the USA
I’m so excited to explore Scotland 🏴 with you!! Those muffins looked 💣!!! I hope Martha’s strange sound was just a little indigestion 👍🏼. Safe travels from Southern California 🌴💛
Two of my favourites, Scotland and you guys! ❤️ I'm so looking forward to the videos to come. I have many highlights and all are too many to name. But high on my list of wonders in Scotland are Mull, Iona, Harris, Lewis, Skye & Orkney. I like to hunt the standing circles and there are so many in Scotland. Calanais is just awesome but I also love hunting a giant single stone and chatting to locals! Mull offers a great coast, wonderful wildlife such as the white tailed eagles (sea) and I highly recommend Fidden Farm for the best sunset whilst camping at the waters edge, super for swimming and paddle boarding! The beaches on Harris are to die for! Neist Point on Skye is just amazing, I saw and heard the minke whales here and one puffin. Quiraing... Staffin... so so much on Skye! Plocktonnis idyllic and a boat trip is cool here. I love the waterfalls inland and the East coast is also amazing. And not forgetting Glasgow and Edinburgh! They are so different and both worth a visit. I could just keep going! ❤️❤️❤️
Wow Katy, so much incredible info there, we are gonna have to add those location pins, and I have no idea what a standing circle is so will have to look that up haha
@@phillyandkeely I combined standing stones and stone circle in my excitement of writing the comment lol. These sites are ancient and often older than Stonehenge... I have a few favourites now in Scotland. I'm Welsh and spent most of 2022 in Scotland and I'm heading back up again this week. ❤️🦄🗝🌕 Happy Full Moon, its a great one to manifest in this energy. Keep smiling 😊🙏🏼🕯🌞🌕🗝
Love it guys. Videos just get better every week. We loved Scotland but think next time we’ll go in Autumn/Winter to avoid the midges as we got swarmed in summer 👍
Oh wow, great video guys, love the cooking bits, so funny. I'm so excited to see you exploring Scotland, I've been many times, and can't wait to see you exploring places I recognize! There's so many great places, the NC500 does a good job of guiding you to most of them (I toured Scotland before the NC500 was invented!), but also detour off onto other roads and dont feel you need to do all of the NC500. Fort William is a great place to stock up with food and diesel and also a beautiful location - you can even climb Ben Nevis on foot if you want to taste some more metal, and visit the Harry Potter bridge!! I'd also recommend Apple Cross (but Martha might not like going up the pass, so take the coast road instead), and Lochinver for delicious pies. But honestly it's all good you can't go wrong. The West Coast is definitely the best so don't rush it. Random other suggestion is Talmine - as I used to stay there, it's really remote and wild on the Atlantic coast.
Looking forward to seeing more of beautiful Scotland and hopefully you won't have too many midge attacks. Those muffins look so delish. Have you ever used peanut powder? It's good in a cup of hot chocolate or you can make a fruit dip with it mixed with cocoa and honey. Glad to hear Martha got her worn out parts replaced and she's as good as new(knock on wood). I'm on the road too, in Colorado, where I will meet up with a friend for a week. Hope you two get to see some beautiful wildflowers which is what we'll be looking for. Hey, I heard you can pan for gold in Scotland, maybe give that a try. Okay, have fun you two and talk to you later. Happy Travels!
Congrats on making it to Scotland!! Really looking forward to the new lands for you guys. Continued good vibes for Martha and her new bits & bobs. Any ideas on the new noise? 🤞😬🤞 The curry-making sound effect cascade had me laughing! 😂❤️❤️😎✌️xx
Glad we gave you a laugh with those sound effects 🤣🤣 no idea what the new sound is, we also have a new light on our dashboard lol, but we will see how things go
