For over 4 years, we've been exploring the world in our self built vans. Currently, we’re wrapping up an incredible 6-month adventure in Australia with our tiny van, Dingo. It’s been a wild ride, from a 30-day van build on the streets of Melbourne to getting lost in the scorching heat of the Australian outback.
Before Australia, we lived full-time in Europe in our DIY van, Martha. There, we faced the harsh realities of van life: robbery, fire, and countless breakdowns. Despite the challenges, we embraced every moment and shared all the highs and lows on this channel.
We’ve also spent three unforgettable months experiencing van life in Japan, and we can't wait to continue our adventures across more countries and continents. Subscribe to join us on our crazy adventures!
My wife and I have decided that it takes a special type of person to be a van-lifer -- ESPECIALLY one with a build that doesn't include a toilet! While I might have the benefit of using a bottle for my nightly urination trip, I also have 3-5 bowel movements a day, and sometimes when that feeling comes on, I have like less than 10 minutes to make it happen -- so that hole better _already_ have been dug! Plus, my wife pees -- no exaggeration -- around 10 times a day, and she's not okay with having to hover half-naked over a hole out in the open to do that... >.<
I'm working my way through your videos, so late to this one....love it......but my best childhood holiday memories are caravan camping with my grandparents, sister and cousins at St Helens and Cressy in Tasmania
We get new SIM cards in each country we are in, if we are going to be there long enough it is worth doing for us as we need alot of internet for uploading videos.
No offense but they do here in the U.S.. There is always a risk of the homeowner or traveler returning unexpectedly. If their target appears like a kind nonviolent person the thief/gang member/thug is always emboldened. I once made the mistake of riding the subway (metro) in Chicago, IL dressed in a business suit and carrying a laptop. I had flown in for a meeting and didn’t want to wait for a TAXI. It didn’t take long for several young men to begin following me looking for an opportunity. Luckily I found a security guard and the young “gangbanger” wannabes dispersed rapidly. The guard advised me to change my look if I chose to ride again safely.
the van wasnt aired, mate here in aus, his toyota prado wasnt driven for 6 weeks, went to get in, seats had mould and shit all over the, front and back, the insurance company wrote the car off as to replace the seats was around 20k aud, same value as the car. lesson learnt.
Wow that's insane that it was gonna cost so much to replace seats! I can't imagine Australia having mould cuz it's so hot 😂 so lesson learnt for me on that one! We had our windows open same way we did when we left it in Romania for three months and we had no mould, but apparently it was the wettest winter in years in Ireland. Just blew my mind
Oh Keely, I think you totally missed out on a perfect opportunity there to try out your best Philly voice and add in the most absurd voice-over for that portion missing audio! 🤪
White vinegar is great for getting rid of mold on pretty much everything. You can add some essential oil and dilute a bit with water, too. I know it looks bad, but I've dealt with similar situations, and it's been alright in the end. ❤ I wish you the best!
Watched a programme a couple of years ago about car thieves. Some bloke put a sticker on his window saying nothing of value was kept in the car. The Thief left him a note after breaking in, it read "just thought I'd check anyway".
You'll never forget Australia 🦘 and New Zealand...it was a once in. lifetime event...you never forget coming home to an old moldy Martha.I cant believe all that can happen in a clised up van in that short ammount of time.Ugh...old toothbrushes, 🧻,mold remover ,vinegar, bleach ?'once done camp somewhere sunny with doors open....😢dont let it get you too down....its only temporary.Wishing you a good rest, and restortative time with Martha. It'll work out, shes a good friend.
I know it is controversial but.. in areas where it is legal i suggest a firearm to protect yourself and loved ones. Especially females traveling alone.. and training is very important
Use to be able to get an alarm that ised its own battery. It worked on pressure. If door or window opened the alarm would sound. They had a remote to arm and disarm
Keely, I love how you cry... I'm a crier too and it bothers me sometimes. It's nice to see someone else who cares about what moves us!!! Keely the Dalmatian is not a crier ;) she's a little tuffie!!! Philly is a kinder gentler old soul.
Hey guys! Hope you're ok after seeing Martha? Totally empathise with yas! Mould sucks! Great vid btw, nice to catch up with your adventures. Back in N.I. in August, will you be there? Xx
Thanks Michelle ❤️❤️ we will probably be in mainland then. We are planning to head to Scotland next week and then down through UK to visit friends along the way. So hopefully we can see you too ❤️❤️
Huge shout out to Melbourne Steve - what a guy 👏👏. And to Ria, her artwork captures you two and your adventures perfectly. I have the pink out the box and love it (will get that picture over to you). What a journey back and poor Martha. She’s got a right dose of the moulds. I think she just missed you guys. Hopefully she’s back to her normal self and you’re back on the road. Great video 🚐👏😷
That was a bit of a kicker to come back to! 😢 Just seen on Camper Vibe that you've got it sorted though! And how come you keep popping up on other channels I follow? (Okay, it's only the second time, but deets!) Are you like the pulsing nerve centre of the vanlife collective?
@@phillyandkeelysorry to see all of the mould in your van that’s not the welcome home you needed! I really hope you guys get it all sorted but most importantly that it’s safe for you to be in there xxx
Saw you on camper vibes. Been through and watched many of your videos and I have to say, without being rude to Keely...you are as bad as Emily for food. Maybe you need a snack cupboard lol.
What a welcome home gift from Martha 🤦♀️😳 Was lovely to see you both pop up at Louise and Emily's place and looking forward to seeing you get Martha sparkling again - well done guys! 💪🏽❤️
Slan abhaile to you two. Say hello to Ireland for me. Oh gosh I feel like family is going back home leaving me sad and lonely. On a positive note it's not a goodbye.., just a see you later. ❤❤
I like to look at myself as someone who thinks out of the box. And because I've never been broken into I don't know if this works or not, but I am positive my theory is sound anyway lmao! And because I travel with some very high dollar tactical stuff and weapons Iike an AR15, night vision and thermal, it's very important for me to make sure they are secured! I'm talking $20,000 worth stuff. So what I do is this. I have 2 actual safes, one small and a larger version. Then I mount them in the van very secure so it would be one hell of a lot of work to break it loose... but possible and make it known that it's possible. Basically something that is not as easy as it looks. I also buy a higher quality safe so it would be a little more difficult to break them open as well. I mount them so they are hidden, but not really hidden, if you know what I mean. I try to make it look like I'm trying to hide them, but in reality you can spot them by moving a couple things which is exactly what someone would do if they're trying to steal from you. I label one "Gun Safe" and the other "Cash & Documents" So my thinking is if they believe it's mounted so well they won't be able to take it, then they will move on and leave it be. But if I give them the impression that it's doable with a little bit of extra work and with the labels now, letting them know the extra work is def worth the extra effort, they are going to waste one HELL of a lot of time trying to either break it loose or break it open! Just for kicks I throw in 50 pound dumbbell weights, so if they do get it loose it's going to be all they can carry for the moment lol. Time is always your friend and never your enemy when it comes to a thief and the longer it takes them the better chance they are going to get caught!!! Every minute that goes by is an extra minute of time you have to stop it. The kicker here is not a few feet away I have the real guns hidden behind a side wall panel :)
Loving your humour. Other than Tasmania I have lived 10 years in northern Queensland in Mackay. If one likes the bush and coast line there is so much more to see here. My mum at 85 has spent her life in Tasmania spending a lot of time bushwalking and sightseeing and has not seen it all. When I finish watching the Australian videos I am going to go back to watch your videos from the beginning. Pity we did not get to meet.
