First Impressions: Unboxing the ESP LTD M-201 Guitar

UPDATE: Apologies for the darkness of this video. On my monitor it was probably borderline acceptable, but I'd filmed it all and edited before realising exactly how dark the video was. I will make a follow-up video that goes over the guitar in greater detail and with brighter lighting. Thanks for the feedback thus far.

Welcome to my latest awkward speaking video where I unbox the ESP LTD M-201, an electric guitar that I've been admiring for a while now.
The ESP LTD M-201 is a part of the M series from ESP guitars, a brand that until now I had never experienced. This electric guitar is designed for musicians who demand style, substance and a LOT of black.
In this unboxing video, I will take you through many details of the ESP LTD M-201. From its packaging to its components, I will attempt to explore every aspect of this electric guitar. I will start by carefully unpacking it from its box, revealing its design and beautiful finish. The unboxing process itself is an experience as it showcases how distracted I become when I see a new guitar.
In addition to showcasing the physical attributes of the ESP LTD M-201, this unboxing video-to the best of my ability-will also give you an insight into its performance capabilities. I will plug it in and give you a taste of what this electric guitar sounds like. You'll get to hear its rich tones and see how it responds to different playing techniques.

"It's too dark" "That's horrible" "Can you not afford lighting because you have so many guitars?" Family. They can be harsh.

What is in the signal path for the distorted rhythms? I love the sound.

Thanks. The distorted tone is M-201 > Focusrite Scarlett Solo > Reaper > Toneforge Jeff Loomis (using a preset that I tweaked for this guitar using the Rhythm channel of that plugin).

Thanks so much mate. I learned a few things when editing that I didn't realise when recording (video and audio). Lessons learned! But, I have to say that when you hard pan left and right the two pickup settings (coil tapped and not coil tapped) ... that's one sweet sound!

Love that Mat Black single pickup look! I think the clean playing section sounds awesome and was my favourite! Man looks and sounds awesome! I have a 'juiced up' LTD M-10 and the reason I upgraded the pups was due to it having the nicest neck I've played, just feels so good. I bet this is the same, or better \m/

I honestly bought this because of it having a single pickup and being so black. The neck feel though blows my mind with how smooth it is to play. Happy little accident for sure.

@@MrBurnzz. I'm not in a band or in a studio environment, but I can't see why you wouldn't be able to do both if those things with this guitar. I think the pickup sounds great and the neck plays and feels awesome to me.

Hey brother, got a question for you. I just bought this, but have had horrible experiences with pinholes in the satin finish from the Indonesia warehouse models from Schecter and other companies, so I am a bit apprehensive...but I went ahead and just ordered one listed with a late 2022 MFG date today from Sweetwater because of how awesome it sounds/looks. Have you noticed any issues with the fit/finish with yours?

Hey mate. I can honestly say that the finish on the one I purchased is flawless. I can't see a mark on it anywhere. Obviously, each one is different, so I can only hope that yours ends up as clean as mine came to me.

I was honestly incredibly pleased with the setup. The strings were slightly loose (hence it being out of tune initially), but once I tuned it, the playability was excellent. For the price, I'm amazed by how good this guitar plays and sounds.

I have this and it came with so many QC issues that I really should have sent it back. Unfortunately when I got it, I was still inexperienced as a guitar player so didn’t pick up on them until I eventually took it to a tech. Overall it’s nice and sound great. I’m hoping once it’s had a bit more work done to it, it’ll be perfect to play

I’ve been in a similar situation with a different guitar (I ended up swapping the neck as the original was beyond repair). I hope your LTD becomes perfect.

@@Gee-no Nut slot for the high E wasn’t cut properly, a couple of lifted frets, a few sharp feet ends, tool marks on the edge of the neck. And when it was set up the guitar tech found a screw which had been threaded and took him an age to try and get out. Really should have sent it back but apart from the lifted frets, it’s all minor stuff that I’m not too bothered about now. Still plays nice!

@@guitarfascination Just an update on this, after having it worked on by an excellent guitar shop, it now plays incredibly well. Now I just need to decide what to upgrade the pick up too....

Man. This one looks great and ive had my eye on it but...i really really want the LTD SN1 swampash w/ ebony fingerboard but it is almost double the amount. As much as i love this one in your video im gonna hold out for the SN1. I want the S shape, one humbucker, rev headstock, and locking tuners (ive never had locking tuners, tho i did buy some replacement ones for my LTD EC 256 matte black Eclipse). Im drooling, excuse me ...😂

Understandable. The SN1 is a cool looking guitar and with one humbucker and a fixed bridge, that's close to a perfect S-style guitar in my books.

I'm not an expert in that field, but I would guess that as long as the bobbins (?) aren't painted that the pickups wouldn't be affected much. I used a sharpie on a cheap pickup of a cheap guitar once. Didn't last, but looked cool for a while.

I'm pretty sure it would work. Pickup seems standard size to me (compared to my others including some SDs).
