It has some features of the Z6 but you can only use them from the screen. The Z6 can use all its functions from the viewfinder and screen. Also you can only use the F-mount lenses, but on the Z6 you can use F and Z. And there still more: The Future Nikon Lenses with 1.2 aperture can only be used on the Z6, Z7 or other Nikon mirrorless.
It's a more versatile, a more complete camera that offers the benefits of a DSLR and a mirrorless camera. It has OVF which is great for action, wild-life, sports (no lag) and supports a lot of native telephoto and super-telephoto lenses above 200 mm while on the Z6 they have to be adapted. The body is more rugged due to its size and construction. The cost of owning a D780 with lenses is less than the Z6 with comparable lenses, because the Z-mount lenses are generally more expensive than their F-mount counterparts. The predecessor Nikon D750 was launched at the same MSRP of 2300 USD in 2014, but was then reduced in price after a few months through cash-back promotions (200-300 USD). The same strategy was applied to Z6, it launched at 2000 USD and can now be had at 1700 USD depending on the region. So expect the price of D780 to drop in late spring/early summer to about 2000 USD.
So many fan boy talks, its a total misplaced announcement...No wonder y Nikon is losing their market shares...they r being so stupid..d780 is a z6 wth mirror..no added benefits apart from dual SD cards which anyway is an old tech, either u get a 750 or a Z6.. This is totally lost product. No one is going to shoot sports or wildlife or photojournalism in live view mode except for staged events
Less shutter lag, more versatile lens lineup, longer battery life, ergonomics. I'm not hating on mirrorless, but this is perfect for people who invested in DSLR that might eventually go mirrorless
I really wanted to see alternating grips while shooting with this video. I wanted to see someone in action going from landscape to portrait style shooting and back because this is my biggest deterrent in buying this camera that it doesn't have contact points for a battery grip that allows for ergonomic vertical shooting. Seems like a huge slight for portrait shooters. I shoot vertical way more than landscape orientation.
what is a good video lens for the D780? i just recently got this camera and i'm wanting to film music videos. the only lens i have right now is a 35mm with no stabilization and its super shaky. so i'm looking to upgrade.
I think that is a hybrid camera. However, I think it was a bad move by Nikon to price it so high and intentionally cripple it by not having a joystick and not offering a grip for it. Nikon should have priced this at the $1700-$1800 range.
S Tra true the D750 came out at around that price . However, at the time the camera landscape was different . That was before the A7III set the bar for value at $2k. Don’t get me wrong I’m a Nikon guy , but even with those extra live view features the S780 at 2300 is kind of a tough sell . My Z6 cost less and still does more or if you don’t want to compare it to a mirrorless consider that one can get a used or refurbished D850 for that price .
It's sad that so many photographers come to Chicago and never venture past downtown. I guess technically he at least went to the south loop for the basketball court, but there are so many other amazing places to shoot in this city.
@Mr Tech F-mount cameras rely on lens VR. There's tons of stabilized F-mount lenses which are amazing. This camera is a D750 refresh, and the D750 is still an amazing camera, but it's a mid-range camera. Don't expect Nikon to put their latest innovations in this segment. They'll do that when they launch the D880 and the D6.
Nice preview of this camera. I thought that the voice was one of the Kardashians with that monotone. You should spike that voice and give it some pizzazz.
When shooting video a gimbal or slider is much much important than ibis. Unless you shoot interview (people sitting duck on a chair) most of the time - yes ibis would be useful. Ibis or in body stabilizer only useful when your subject doesn't move, which hardly the case when shooting video.
Well there is two points that I am very disappointed with Nikon D780. One, why is there only 51 points in middle of viewfinder looking through the prism? To me that is old technology that is used for D750. I would have prefer 101 to 150 points over the entire. viewfinder. I do not use the view screen to take photos. I prefer looking through the prism, I'm old school. Two, how come there is no vertical grip for D780? This is game changer for me. A vertical grip with buttons reduces the strain on your right wrist and it helps photographer reduce camera shake, when holding the camera. So in nut shell, I will not be buying this camera until Nikon improves the camera over all. I won't hold my breath because Nikon is too stubborn to improve one of their professional cameras before it hits the camera market.
@Back And Fort He did not say he can't work without them, he said he is disappointed the camera does not have those basic features. I don't see why you have to make jokes about that. It is actually not too much asking for a grip that people can opt to buy if they wish and a modern AF system for regular OVF shooting. Especially when the camera price is this hefty.
@Back And Fort All my DSLRs have vertical grips, so your statement is false, "I do know you won’t need the grip in most cases." It does not matter if a person want to buy a D850 or D780. What matter the most is that Nikon refuses to understand the consumer. If Nikon wants to understand the consumer, they need to ask the right kind questions when it comes to camera sales.
There's a reason why we don't see 4K 60p in many cameras at around 2000 USD. To make sure the processor is properly cooled, the cameras would need to be larger and have active cooling (a fan). Secondly, for what purpose would you need 4k 60p?
So basically you are avoiding the viewfinder for all dos good featurea u mentiones...so y not get a z6 which is cheaper and have additional benefit of the z mount...dis is a no point camera, if it had that hybrid viewfinder then truly it was a hybrid camera...now its just like an old dslr, only u get improved AF performance in live view mode, but its not a hybrid camera..imo
Bro, my name is Vamsi am from India, recently I purchase canon 90d body, can you suggest me best lens actually I am shooting prank videos, can you suggest me best lens with sharp video not in budget I want professional level lens, please suggest for prank videos🙏🙏🙏🙏
Totally agree! Now they call Hybrid the D780 only for marketing.... why is the d780 an hybrid camera? For the LV functionality? So...all the past 4/5 years DSLR are hybrid!....
Iam a big fan of nikon and iam from a poor family . I don’t have the cash to purchase your product can you send me one 90d i will make a review for the product in RU-vid i am from india kerala
Not a digital SLR + mirrorless camera, but it is hybrid in the sense that it combines the advantages of an OVF and a mirrorless liveview experience on the rear screen, which is a first.
