Love how the children are really getting involved in farm life. These are memories they will remember in the future. They will be picking you up from the pub at 16 in the tractor :D

Absolutely brilliant bless you all , my late cousin was ploughing field’s at 8 years of age . Good to see you are keen to get the children involved , and be part of what will be their life . Even if they go off and do other things , the life skills will remain with them for ever . Best wishes as always 😀👍👍👍

Hi those bulk bags have two loops on them and if you are using a tractor with forks on then you should put one loop on each fork to balance the bag. You would have still ripped the bag on the stones but the weight would be better balanced

One of the things you could have done is to slide the forks to the centre of the carriage, this would make the balance of the tractor better, and distribute the weight across both tines.

Buy 2, 2 ton slings and use them across both forks,it'll make lifting so much safer.thread them through the bulk bag handles on each side

@Noel748s
@Noel748s Год назад
Lifting on one fork is definitely not recommended, you need to spread the load evenly across both forks, at least you will end up bending a fork if you carry on as you are
@PA-ek3ul
@PA-ek3ul Год назад
@@diyfarm why go to the hassle of slings and trying to attach them without losing height when lifting those bulk bags. Simpler method would be to move the forks to the middle of the loader and have both forks go through the lifting eyes of those bags, plenty of room 👍

Put a drop of petrol in with the diesel on the farm truck. It helps it to flow better in the cold.

When lifting bags, lift from the middle so as not to twist the loader frame when going over ruff ground

If the tractor can pick it up and safely move it then its all good and if its to high basically scrapes the ground try and put it on a pallet the pallet can be moved closer to the ground and will take any abrasion better with contact on the ground
@dools23
@dools23 Год назад
If your mole plough is one of those red ones with the curved feed pipe we found it tore the ground more than sliced, so possibly not something you want too many times across your pasture. For the pipe you can kick the turf back and roll over it with the tractor tire, but for drainage mole ploughing you may want something with more finesse. Also watch out for existing pipes/cables and tree roots!
@diyfarm
@diyfarm Год назад
Yeah, while I did look at the mole plough with a slitting disc and mini roller, it seemed excessive and not able to lay pipes. I'll use the red one for the pipe runs first and if its tool bad I'll see what I can borrow for when we subsoil the fields. As we need to overseed them, a bit of disturbance might be ok, even if it looks rough for a few weeks.

Tim I hope that you have contacted the local veterinary doctor and asked him/her to be on standby as goat's can develop problems with delivery very quickly. Hopefully all is peachy 🍑 and you endup with a great litter especially when a single doe is capable of having between 1 and 6 kids from one pregnancy. Good luck 👍

Nice little tractor I'd suggest a weight on the rear linkage when lifting the heavier bags would make it even more stable and you could lift abit higher so you dont catch the ground.

All that "trouble" for a small amount of feed to be unloaded? I remember when i started (1980s) we used to "handball" it off a lorry truck, then carry it on our shoulder, the good old days

Good video, but a bit of advice I was a tractor driver for 50+years when driving moving the tractor keep the glass door shut there's a far bit of weight in door which when open puts stress on it and it doesn't take much of a knock and it will shatter, and believe me you wouldn't like the cost to replace it
@diyfarm

Good to know. It's one of the downsides of a cab I guess. We had got used to being able to communicate more easily when moving around. 👍

Goats are pretty robust, they differ from pigs in that they don't have their young in a sort of nest, (pigs are like cats and dogs in that respect). Cattle and sheep normally have their young in the open air and goats probably select a slightly more protected environment but with plenty of fresh air. Cattle and sheep can get lung infections if the air is still and there are few air changes, goats are probably less prone to this but I did get lung infections when using a calf hutch without removing the part that prevents a free flow of air.

Question for you. Sheep need selenium and I know a lot of areas in the US where people raise sheep, there is not enough selenium naturally so the sheep must be supplemented ( similar to copper with goats and cows to some extent). Do you have to supplement selenium in your area?
@diyfarm
@diyfarm Год назад
Yes we are low on selenium in our soils so have made sure it’s in the minerals we give them. We will do a blood test soon which will also show if any additional needed. Goats had a drench with copper too.

Get used to it 😂😂 feed, fertiliser, the lot comes in those bags. Don't mean to jump the gun before I've watched the whole video but do you have a counter balance weight on the back? Also with those bags lift with the tine as close to the centre of the head stock as possible. It won't do your gearing in you axle any favours having more weight on one side than the other.
