There aren't nearly enough London Grammar reactions on RU-vid, and this was certainly the best one I've seen! Hope to see you doing some more LG reactions very soon! (preferably from their first 2 albums but that's just me. I feel like their latest album is not showcasing Hannah's voice and capabilities as well as their older albums do. (Song suggestions: Wasting My Young Years, Strong, If You Wait, Truth is a Beautiful Thing, Hey Now, Interlude, Wicked Game (Chris Isaak cover on youtube)).

Her cover of "Wicked Games" originally from Chris Isaak is gorgeous too, you should check it out. Hannah Reid is criminally underrated indeed, the new generation can't recognize true talent sadly.
@lydiainphoenix
@lydiainphoenix 2 года назад
Yann, I don't think "the new generation can't recognize true talent," I think it's just hard to get airplay on most radio stations in the U.S. where we often hear music for the first time while driving in our cars. If you're working full-time and/or going to school, if you have kids, if you have a busy work and family schedule you have to constantly juggle, you are already "out of the loop" when it comes to the huge world of music. On top of that, you have the consolidation of media outlets where so many stations are playing the same stuff because that's what's being promoted to them. Not everyone has access to indie stations, for example, where non-pop music like this is often first exposed to the public. Directly sharing music you've discovered person to person - via email or social media, for example, is a great way to overcome those limitations.

Agreed. An intimate performance in a studio. The power of Hannah's voice gently supported by guitar and keyboard was overwhelming. Helped by the fact that two of my favourite songs were performed there. To be realistic I don't think that any other performance showcases Hannah's vocal range as much as this video of "Rooting for you", though.

I am not a singer, I am a trombonist, but my reaction to this song was identical to yours when I first heard it years ago. Hannah Reid is special, uses her 'instrument' very well indeed (Her range is E♭3 - E5 - G5 (2 octaves, 2 notes and a semitone) . A real treat to hear her sing. I also agree about the production, and even moreso the composition. Loved watching you when you first first heard her skipping so unexpectedly through the octsves. Brava.

There are old old old vibes in this prolonged opening. The echoes, the reverberations, the use of space and chamber size. Old, old stuff. Indigenous. Native. Spiritual. Shamanic. Celtic. Tribal. OLD stuff in this. She's tapping into a fount that breathes inside many of our psyches, and whether we know it or not, our soul may recognize it. This is a first listen for me, too. Just wow. Thank you to Amanda who recommended it! And I love love LOVE your reaction so much! Isn't it fabulous that we constantly find more and more layers of beauty in this world of ours?!!! I find their new album not nearly as good as their first two. And I think Hannah's voice is underutilized / misused on it. The album is too poppy and the songs are not as unique and don't allow Hannah to use her voice to its full glorious potential in the same way as on the previous albums...but that's just me.

Very interinsting when following React channel to see how bands and their music are travelling around the world. On one hand, this one is so well-known in France, that the band had a super hit with "wasting my young years" song which is already many times covered in TV shows and YT channels. On the other hand, I discover every day bands I didn't hear about before, just by going through a YT journey via Reactions channels

(Btw, the reverbs we were talking about need a separate room if you want stereo, a friend of mine had two of them ... The best modern emulation of it is the Acustica Audio Ebony reverb. I doubt anyone could hear the difference between it and the original. The difference from one of them to another is equal or higher than the difference to the emulation ... it is pretty amazing sounding but needs quite some horsepower under the hood of your computer...)

Hi :) London Grammar song "Strong" was the star that convinced me of good things in music still happening in this century! Would really recommend this song and, then, also this beauty - Eivør - whatever song..., starting from Trollabundin, I Tokuni, Gullspunin, Undo Your Mind, Falling Free, Truth, etc, etc, a beautiful Kate Bush cover... But for now, I'll be happy to see her next Friday in Manchester ant London Grammar in 3 weeks time in Nottingham!

To the question why your "American ears" haven't heard of them, the answer lies in the last song of their newest (2021) album, the title of the song is "America". From their RU-vid Live concert: ru-vid.com/video/%D0%B2%D0%B8%D0%B4%D0%B5%D0%BE-HobEtItXCYk.html Alternatively if that one has a region block: ru-vid.com/video/%D0%B2%D0%B8%D0%B4%D0%B5%D0%BE-GEVYuoGnlVA.html Those might not be the best though for it barely features instrumentation. So maybe this one would fit better for further analysis "Lord it's a Feeling" (warning strong lyrics): ru-vid.com/video/%D0%B2%D0%B8%D0%B4%D0%B5%D0%BE-jAxOyFE59c4.html

A last one ... as for why many great songs never make it into American ears... The US music market is much more of a bubble than most people would expect. On more than one occasion, I was really shocked realizing this when I moderated in a studio related forum with mostly Nashvillian musicians and engineers. Even in times of global availability of music, it is very hard to settle in the American market. I remember how Rammstein hesitated for ten years to give even one concert in the US after their first tour. They seemed to be like traumatized from the bad experiences they made when they toured the U.S., it went really, really bad and nobody seem to even know who they are, while they were already huge stars in the rest of the world. They even have to plan in a few hours more when coming to the US because Till and Flake were in jail on the first tour for simulating a homosexual act (in full clothes) as part of the show, and now they have problems at every US airport when coming from Germany to the US for the rest of their lives, probably. There are so many cultural differences between Europe and the US, that are obstacles for bands from outside the US, it's nuts! Even bands like the Beatles or Abba had a harder time to make it to America, than you may think, no matter how insanely popular they were in the rest of the world.

I love a good reaction video but way to much pausing and talking here. I am sorry, I do not get why reactors cannot just listen to the song, respect the music and react when the song is complete, that way they and we get the full experience instead of it being paused time and time again. This is just my opinion by the way
