Kate has been a mainstay of the UK folk scene for over 20 years. Very down to earth. She has turned her back on "fame" to stay true to her roots. This singer's voice is so filled with emotion that it's impossible *not* to be moved by it. And once again Daniel's deep empathy and compassion for others are evident. Best. Reactor. Ever.

Kate Rusby is a true gem. I was captured by her in about 2000 when I heard her song "Sweet Bride" from her 2nd album. A fantastic, personable and really genuine human with a gorgeous voice that's wrapped in her Yorkshire tint, she's also as mad as a box of frogs judging by her youtube channel. She's a great interpreter of traditional songs but also a fine songwriter in her own right. Try her moving song "My Young Man" writen in honour of her grandparents.

Sad to see this Wonderfull singer getting so few views, people must only watch reactions for artists they already know.

It's a shame other music reactors haven't listened to Kate Rusby yet. As well as the achingly beautiful way she somehow manages to sing high and low at the same time, I love that she sings in her regional accent - Bolton, near Sheffield in Yorkshire. Regional accent representation is quite important in the folk music scene, which aims to recapture and celebrate the songwriting and musical traditions of the 18th and 19th centuries, while also writing new songs in the genre along the way, often with a heavy working class political focus. Reading "folk" as the ordinary and poor people, and the songs they wrote and sang while the aristocracy and the rich were playing chamber music and listening to classical. Folk music involves a certain amount of cultural archaelogy, because the songs of the poor didn't tend to get recorded, as posh people saw them as less than. It was an oral tradition until people starting deliberately going looking for folk songs and folk tales to write down in the late 19th century. In North America that folk music tradition became part of early Country music, especially Bluegrass.

I am going to see Kate Rusby at a small festival this weekend at Holker Hall which is the first place I worked full time in 1989 and is also where I met my best friend who started my musical education. I have seen Kate live a few times over the years. She does some great songs my favourite has always been The Wild Goose. She has a beautiful voice my wife has all of her albums

II’ve seen Kate a number of times and when she introduces it she talks about as being from her perspective for her friend.

Lovely. It made me think back to Carly Simon's 'Embrace me you child.' After my father died that song meant a lot to me.

This song has haunted me since singing it and playing guitar with the community choir (CSI:Halifax). It frustrated me at the time that I didn't have time to learn the altered guitar tuning that Kate uses. So I revisited it and made my own arrangement. Hi Daniel It is great to see you react to Kate Rusby. I have been a fan of her voice and music for a number of years. I love her album, " The Girl Who Couldn't Fly " ( 2005 ). You may be interested to know that she has also recorded a cover of The Kinks' " The Village Green Preservation Society ". I am almost sure that Laura Marling would be another British songwriter that you would love. Listen to her songs, " What He Wrote " or " Fortune " to bring another tear to your eye. Cheers !
