I was planning on getting an Outback, but learned that it had a cvt. Mazda uses tried and true geared transmissions. 187 hp is plenty for me. I decided on a 2024, minimum amenities. 1200 plus miles, 24.5 mpg city, 28.9 hwy. Great handling. No real problems so far.

Already got over 4500 miles on my 23 meridian cx-50. Love every mile of it. Great vehicle and I personally love its handling. Very much worth it. For anybody worried about the gloss black center console, it isn’t really a plastic, hasn’t almost a silicone type feel to it so it doesn’t get problems with fingerprints.

I'm getting an average (dash reported) 28.5 +/- .2 on a CX-50. Have gotten as high as 36+ on a specific drive. (2023) But the average is fairly solid. Someone mentioned the auto-off/auto-restart type system. I assume similar to Hyundai (Mitsubishi Outlander might have one). I'm curious how many people would use it. I drove a Prius 4 for years. I never quite got used to the true hybrid's doing the random off/on. I have to say it never failed on me but I never was comfortable with it turning off in traffic. I knew the batteries would at least get me out of traffic. But on a gas only drive - I just don't think myself would use it. And I read - Hyundai was it - has a massive recall on theirs (2023 Tucson I think it was). There is a hydraulic valve or something that is causing fires. So - Mazda, good on you.

I like it, but not interested in buying a vehicle with start/stop and cylinder-deactivation if both can't be turned off in settings & stay off. That sort of tech helps Mazda meet fuel economy regulations & adds a few MPG for advertising purposes (at increased vehicle sticker price), but is bad for the consumer on the tail-end by adding a lot of added complexity & likely problem/failure points over the longer haul. I'm glad that my 2022 CX-30 has neither of those systems.

Mazda says dampers and steering updates aren't available until November, my dealer says they're available on new 24 models now, and MazdaUSA says to ask dealers...So does it or does it not have the updates? All that aside, I feel like the 24 vs 23 will be purely dependent on whether you care about the little imperfections in the car--it's the second year of a completely new model, and I'd hope mazda techs have given attention to all the smaller complaints that first gen users have made--creaks and rattles in the dash/sunroof, wind noises behind the A-pillar, trim popping out of the pillars, stitching issues in the leather seats. If you don't care about these smaller manufacturing defects, '23 is definitely a better value because you're seeing used/certified models under 10k miles going 5k under MSRP. Otherwise, '24 is probably better because they've had a year to address owner concerns.

Yes, I've been very happy with the fit and finish on my 50. But if you're looking for more oomph, you have to go with the turbo. @@aussie8114 👍🏾 how does zooming and panning the map works?
@aussie8114
@aussie8114 Год назад
@@Star-rq3jd I’m probably not the best one to comment on that as I’ve used navigation only a couple of times and never even thought of zooming or panning. When I have used navigation it has been using the Google maps app on the screen rather than the Mazda navigation app on the screen. Not sure how the 2 apps differ. But when I’ve used Google maps navigation it’s all done using voice, I speak to it and it speaks to me. It seems very good. Apple Music is very doable using the dial, radio stations also are very easy. I tend to just put it on a radio station and leave it be, or play an Apple Music playlist. The dial has some advantages, one being that it’s legal to use while driving whereas touch is illegal here for almost all functions. I still have a lot to learn on this car, the intelligent cruise control baffles me, don’t really trust it either even though it’s probably very good. I like the blind spot warning and the heads up display is great. Its a good car but likely no car is perfect.

According to Mazda, models produced in and after November will have new dampers to make the ride smoother. The electric steering is also being changed, presumably to make the steering lighter. I haven't driven one, but a lot of reviewers have commented on the heavy steering in the CX-50.
@RealKevGotEm

@@PhillyFan20 yes it is slightly heavy but it’s not like I have to steer too handed. The ride could be a smidge smoother too
@calldeltosell

I tend to agree, there's nothing really new worth mentioning. And, the way my mind works - an actual list of "what's new for" should be the lead. Otherwise it's a little annoying. I searched for two months pretty much everything available in my home town and for some models - the greater middle Tennessee USA area. My local Mazda dealership was one of the few without price gouging (well except for the Navigation). What motivated me was the change in wheelbase, height and width. I thought it might perform better in a moose test than similar styled compact crossovers. However, in my case, I came within 1 day of returning mine. While there are things to like about it, it's just not ready for production I think. It's as if the designers have attention deficit or something. It's like they are totally confused and have no distinct focus. "What is your target?" Some criticism is legitimate, much isn't - it's a bunch of parroting. And the only thing worse than parrots is someone who talks without actually saying anything. I'm not defending Mazda but there's nothing wrong with the steering. I hate the ignorant word "heavy". It's tight and steady. It's not indecisive. Although the steering wheel profile is wide where it should be narrow and narrow where it should be thick. I have no idea why Mazda is so bloodyminded about the driver/entertainment interface. Sometimes when you stand in the shortest queue, it's because you know something others don't. And sometimes, it's because you are the last to know. I guess my largest agrivation is a 0 - 10 trim thing. If you want a Zoom Zoom/performance line build 3 trims - good better best all w/turbo, 8 or 10 speed transmission but change drive train and suspension tuning for on-road focus. Turbo only in this line. Large wheels with low profile are apropos. Want outdoorsy 3 there. Focus on drivetrain and suspension, smaller wheels higher profile tyres. Focus on towing and accessories, maybe with real skid plates. Maybe brush guards and winch points. Want transportation with a little safety and luxury start with something like the select and end 3 levels up focusing on interior and interface and put the glass roof only in that line. Add a plugin hybrid in this line only. The CX-50 is like a cat that thinks it wants to go outside until you open the door - then stands there. BTW - mine is white. First car I ever bought where white had a paint charge. It's not a flat white but rather a little metallic either in the clear coat or paint itself. Maybe Johnathan knows, is there a CX-50 available that does not have a paint charge? Don't get me wrong, it does have a certain charm, but it seems to also have multiple personalities. It does slowly growing on you. The takeaway is this. Love it, hate it, have mixed feelings about it - but it's a vehicle worthy of actually test driving. There are just too many parrots out there (p.s. the seats are not too hard. They are just fine.) The current trims' focus seems little more than a price point ladder. You can't change themes/directions on a ladder.

@@RealKevGotEm I have adjusted to the things that most everybody is complaining about. And I came from a Lexus RX, so if I can adjust to it I would think a lot of people could. I think there are four paint colors that Mazda charges extra for, and that would be the soul red crystal, The windchill pearl, the machine, gray metallic and the polymetal gray. I’m still enjoying my CX50 after nine months of ownership!

We are not getting the CX-50 in Australia apparently. Not sure why that decision was made. I got a top spec silver CX-5 a couple of months ago. Very nice to drive and the interior is great. Looks a very nice SUV in my opinion. I HATE the durability of the exterior gloss black plastic, it’s caused me headaches from day one. I would hope the gloss black plastic on the front of the CX-50 and the mirrors is a hell of a lot more durable than the door pillars. Not too impressed with the durability of the chrome door trims either, very soft finish. I was surprised to see no clear coat on the interior parts of the tailgate, that seems weird and not fitting of a 60k car. Do you know whether the turbo engine takes semi synthetic or needs full synthetic oil. No one seems to know at my dealership. They only tell me it’s 10w-30 synthetic, but they don’t know if it’s full or part synthetic.
