Re-purpose the metal frame as a heat chamber! In Canada my office is usually really cold and I would have failed prints, a chamber to heat the resin would be a game changer
That's really interesting. It's always cool to learn what issues different areas and climates face, especially with the sensitivity of 3D printing materials. I'd like to hear if you try it out, or if you have other issues and solutions that you'd be comfortable sharing.
The autofill looks like a great design to limit the amount of equipment that is touching the resin. We will have to see how long the seal lasts on the bottles because the pressure system requires a good seal.
Ok. Asking your your opinion. I have multiple FDM printers and very satisfied. I’ve avoided resin as I prefer to not get into the post processes, clean up, and toxic materials. Most toxic I get is with ABS which I don’t do much with ABS. I do a lot of things with Arduino, Raspberry, stepper motors, etc. I wonder if I should get into resin as sometimes, but not often, I have to triple think designs, bed orientations, etc. Curious if you would recommend resin for someone like me. Amazon Prime days are approaching so might be some deals, specifically in anycubic printers.
I'm moving into a new house next week (first ever home purchase) with a big basement for... activities. Get your mind out of gutter, I'm talking about making stuff! Might finally be time to upgrade from my Anycubic Photon on the resin side.
Can you do a print quality comparison video between the Anycubic Photon M3 Max vs the $11,000 Formlabs Form 3L that you have in your battle station? I would love to see if there's any discernible print quality difference especially since Form 3L has a seam and the M3 Max doesn't seem to have any Seamlines etc?
While I've had a fairly rocky history with Anycubic's FDM printers and some QC issues, this machine does have some very attractive features and for the space the machine is in, the price is competitive. I'm still wondering why none of the more mainstream manu's offer a factory flexplate, cuz god do they make printing much more conducive to frequent prints and overall easier removal/clean-up! Mark me interested, though the lifecycle of some of those other features that are consumables (like the screen) will be a matter of time and ultimately manufacturing process control. Slicers also are the life and death of the user experience, and all told, I'm not a huge fan of Photon Workshop, though it's serviceable. There are worse for sure.
Auto fill is nice, especially on those larger build volumes, however it has a cut in the case, which could let in UV if you are not careful. not a perfect solution, but on the right path for sure!
How does this compare to other large formats? I was considering getting a Peopoly Phenom L before they discontinued it and came out with the smaller build sizes. How would you say this compares because the price is way better on this. Does the 300mm build height feel restricted compared to 400?
Hey Joel high five on the video as always I just wished you would have included print times and layer heights thanks for your time and keep rocking these videos
Anycubic Photon M3 Max questions for any kind soul please: 1. What frequency is the FEP supposed to be tuned to? 2. Does the FEP spacer still require the "13mm" bottle cap depicted in their official FEP Replacement video or is the M3 Max a different calibration? (I have seen some 19mm spacers from users.) 3. What is the torque setting for the screws on the FEP sheet? 4. Replacing the Glass under the LCD left a gap on one side is there a way to combat this? As the adhesive strip needs to be as far out of the print area, and on the perimeter as possible. 5. Anyone able to fix the touch screen not responding often? Generic Questions: 1. Does anyone consider that the FEP has to be the same temperature as during normal operations while installing the new sheet? I'm sure temperature has some (if negligible) difference?
Any thoughts on what the longevity of this printer will be? I'm looking at buying one for my engineering department, since we really don't have a budget for a bigger "professional" printer. But I don't really want to be changing parts out after 3 months.
My main concern with these auto feed systems is that it doesn't stir the resin...which can lead to issues down the road. For things as simple as pigment separation, to even individual component separation which will lead to failures - there's a reason they tell you to shake the bottle for a few minutes first.
@@3DPrintingNerd 100%. I'm just worried about people who are going to take it as a "let the resin sit" solution, and then once they get to the 2nd half of their resin bottle they won't be able to get proper prints anymore because the chemical balance of the components are going to be too off. I've seen it happen before from people who don't shake their resin enough - at first things print okay but once they get to the second half of the bottle they can't get anything to print anymore because it's all messed up and they need to get new resin.
You could try sitting the bottle on a magnetic stir plate. It would probably work best in a wide base shallow container if you really wanted to do it properly.
I like the auto-fill idea. But I question the practicality of it. The resin needs to be shaken before you pour it out of the bottle. Given that, how can resin be sufficiently mixed before it pours it into the vat automatically? That being said/asked, OMG that build plate/volume is dream-wothy.
Just a random question if you happen to see this. Friends pulled me back into resin printing and was going to pull the trigger on this one but wanted to see if you heard if a updated version is coming soon before I do? Or recommend something else with a large print area.
I bought it and was sad about the printing time. Whether I slice it in Chitu or Anycubic's own software, the print time doubles when we send it to print. 30 minute prints on my Halot One are done in 2 hours on the M3 MAX. Disappointment.
Part of me wants to try resin but the clean up seems not worth the risks to me especially in a home with pets where a curious dog can get into things she shouldn't.
Great review! How much resin does the vat hold when filled upto the max level? I m guessing we would require a second bottle of resin(of the same kind) to fit to the auto filler ...
I've been watching for these large format resin printers to get big and cheap enough. The small ones are just not practical due to size limitations. Now we're talking. Thanks Joel.
@@3DPrintingNerd I've wanted a good sized resin printer for 2 years. It's a big expenditure and shop logistics challenge for me. I am happy to see the Mono X is getting cheaper now.
Dude I just got my mono x and it was hit so hard the yellow case was busted open. I'm waiting on parts since anycubic doesn't have insurance on any packages. Hope it works next month when I rebuild it. FedEx sucks was it them or ups? they use both. You are lucky wish I could of afforded this one or the 8k.
@@3DPrintingNerd I can totally understand that. fedex has by far been the worst for me with shipping receiving and claims on any products I've had issues with. As soon as lockdown lifts I'll be sent a new yellow cover, LCD screen, screen protector and z axis. Now that I'm thinking about it I wonder if you could swop a 4k screen with the 6 or 8k without many issue? Idk if anyone's even bothered to try but likely harder than it's worth. Lol awesome video keep them coming it's been a treat watching them evolve over the years. It's impressive how far they have come.
Not a fan of how much resin will be left in the pump, tubing, of cap thing. Not to mention cleaning if using different resins or colors. Can that whole refill unit just be removed? May be good for some, I hover around my printer regardless, so keeping the level isnt an issue.
I got notice that mine shipped a little over an hour ago. I'm so excited to add this printer to my print farm. I just need to figure out where to put it.
I've gotten used to the process, and it's not that messy, any more, as long as I don't get in a hurry. What frustrates me is failed supports, not mess.
I agree, but for me I was a little disappointed when I first purchased a Mars pro and a wash&cure with it. At the beginning it was messy and felt slightly complicated but now 6 month later I love it. I prefer to use it over my heavily modified CR10, if I dont need a large part. Its faster quieter and all I need to do is put in a file and with almost 99% of the time I get a supper clean highly detailed stronger print...I am saving up to get a larger resin printer now like the M3 Max..But it may not be for everyone..
Ok, I have a serious problem Going On with my M3 Max I can't get any print to print right, I upgraded the firm wear, I been changing setting in Photon workshop, and made sure the FEP sheet was perfect. But still nothing, I NEED HELP. What setting are you using in photon Work shop. I used all Versions of work shop and nothing seems to make the prints print. I been working On this problem for a month plus. Oh nothing seems to stick to the plate and if it does the print fails at some print in the printing process. What is happening, what am i doing wrong.?
how does the bottle connect to the printer? -can any bottle fit? I know some have a plug in outlet that you invert bottles into, this one looks to be a screw in. Do you think Anycubic will make a wash and cure to pair with this machine?
@@3DPrintingNerd thanks for the very quick reply! I feel they might make one to compliment this printer size just because that is the direction many resin printers are going. I guess you can just reuse an anycubic bottle afterwards. Some ppl buy bulk or mix so that makes sense. An adapter -or even better a reusable bottle might be a nice future idea. Even add an end to refill the bottle with the pump connection on the other side, like a gas tank. Reduce the amount one has to adjust and fiddle with the printer tank and reduce spills.
I'm assuming they went with this design to ensure a proper seal. With the pump pushing air into the bottle to push the resin, a poor seal would result in resin spilling everywhere
The pickup for the Autofill needs a 1L bottle.. 500ml is about an inch too short on height *has an M3 Max as well* I was a little disappointed at that revelation.. although it didn't matter too much as I had a 1L bottle from Anycubic to transfer into
Looks like a beast of a machine. I don't see how they can call that a 7k screen though. By the rules of mathematics, 6,480 rounds to 6k. They could call it 6.5k, but it's "marketing math" to claim 7k.
There's something weird about the auto feeder.... even thou the setup menu says it's on, on the display says it is not enabled.... then you turn it off and in the main screen says checking......
@@3DPrintingNerd Have you ever found a curing machine that can cure the full size bed of the M3? I have the bundled Wash and Cure Plus, but when I use the full size bed, it is a headache trying to cure them...
@@3DPrintingNerd Thank you. I was curious about bottom exp time and standard layer exp time. It's my first time using craftsman and i did not fully figure it out.
In the taking portion, looks like you had the same issue Veg Oil Guy had, where the plate rises up at the end of a print, lowering the resin volume, so it fills up. This means you need to drain some, otherwise lowering the plate will overflow it. Until they fix that, I can't take it seriously.
Yup. It’s really more of an insurance policy for a big unattended print. The abilities and timing aren’t fully thought out. Hopefully a firmware update takes care of it.
@@3DPrintingNerd I believe they could just make longer prongs, thus keeping the level of refill lower, allowing more room for when the plate re enters the vat.
Very funny i've received an anycubic 4max pro. had the same hole in the box. and i opened the box with the same exact swiss army knife .. just yesterday.. its super funny whatching you go tthru the same exact situation... kkkkkk
Forgive me - I'm sure this is a dumb question, but I'm so new to this stuff. Does a 7K monochrome screen create sharper detail than a Sonic Mini 4K...? More "K" equals more fine detail?
More pixels but over a larger surface (46µ XY resolution for M3 Max) vs less pixels over a smaller surface (35µ XY resolution for Mini 4K). So the Mini 4K should be sharper.
@@ilovetechnology8436 Thank you for that! If you were shopping for a 3d printer ( under $1500 ) and "fine detail with no print lines" was your priority. And you're making detailed head busts slightly bigger than a soda can, what would you look for? Thank you again!
This printer has a big issue with its monochrome display. I get a check pattern while printing transparent resin. Anycubic support is aware of this issue and told me, that they are working on a new display to solve this problem and asked me if I could wait till this new screen is ready for replacement. I will send it back and wait until all things work out of the box. So be aware if you print a lot of transparent resin.
Mono X 4k is 192x120x245 M3 Max is 298x164x300 That's not just "a little bigger" The Max has 260% the build volume of the Mono X At $1100, the Max is bigger than anything else on the market at this price
@@3DPrintingNerd This is exactly what I meant perhaps discussing what software you used since there's a lot of confusion in the 3-D printing community regarding issues with any cubic and say Chitu and pre-supported files etc. currently I'm on the fence between Jupiter and or the max so I really need details lol. Thanks again for your response.
@@ChineseSweatShoppe well at least someone is getting replies. Personally I’m pretty fed up with Anycubic. I placed an order worth almost $2000, yet it seems their priority is making sure RU-vidrs get their free kit.
@@ChineseSweatShoppe excellent! I haven’t had any indication mine has been shipped yet. I’m in Canada so maybe we’re just last - except of the guys that got them free…
Why do all these channels print superhero busts and fantasy figures, then say 'look at the details!'? Why not print some mechanical parts and tell us if it prints to tolerances.
@@3DPrintingNerd I really don't think that many people are printing busts. Tiny things with crazy detail? Yes, I do that all the time. Try printing a 1:48 scale R2800 Radial Engine and show us if all the nuts, bolts and cooling fins show up, and whether its dimensions are correct. Honestly, showing me something imaginary doesn't show me anything useful about the printer.
High five is really ableist, what if you had lost one finger? it's really inconsiderate :) eff woke. Looks like a very nice printer and from the small prints you can deduce what it's capable off but printing small kinda misses the point. You could have printed a bobafett helmet or ironman or a raging bunny dildo :) the thing about a machine like this is that it can actually make production quality molds. I wonder if for really large prints if a scanning laser would be great for 1 meter size or more for shapes that are relatively continuous like aircraft hull or car door. If a sweeping laser could be plenty fast and fairly inexpensive. That way it would be possible to make large molds fast and cost effectively. Not having to rely on a bizarre resolution display
