Today we're taking a first look at the Saab B-17 in Microsoft Flight Simulator - the latest "Local Legend" - developed by Inibuilds and released into the Microsoft Flight Simulator marketplace. It's easy to fly, interesting to operate, and great fun.

Uh, I was in the Navy for 16 years, mostly on aircraft carriers. No. Planes are dirty as hell. Clean aircraft like you'd see in demonstration teams like the Blue Angels are absolutely out of the ordinary. They're normally filthy. Part of that has to do with the paint that goes on them is not smooth like commercial aircraft paint. It's very flat. If dirt/oil gets on it, you're not getting it all the way off. To people in the military, these things aren't their prized possessions that they're trying to keep in a show status, they're things they work on. They get them as clean as they need to, and not one bit cleaner.

That's interesting - one of the comments I saw was from an F-4 pilot, talking about the upcoming DCS Phantom - saying they were a lot cleaner in his memory - because they were actively cleaned by the crew during maintainance.

Museum Warbirds as we operate them in real life are kept impeccably clean, I spend about 2 hours of cleaning for every hour of flying the Harvard and all the others, so I enjoy flying a very well kept warbird in the simulator, it’s closer to real life flying. But different strokes for different folks!

Being from Sweden, this was fun. And I agree with previous commenter - not bad pronounciation at all!

Yeah, those "A crew chief would never (let the airplane look like that)"-people. We have a lot of them in the miniature-build community too. And it's well established that that "fact" is a load of horse-s...it. Yes, these things got washed from time to time. But the majority of the time - grease, grass, and muck everywhere.

I would suggest to the people suggesting all aircraft should be factory fresh having some usage dirt actually enhances the aircraft and makes it look far more realistic. When there is a war on I doubt anyone worried to much about how clean an aircraft was. Serviceability was everything I would think.

There are wonderful free airports for Sweden, Finland and Norway. Why don't you use them? It us a nice aircraft but .... by now there are too many... we cannot buy all of them! 😀😀😀

I love the fact that you are flying a SAAB aircraft, and stopped to do a loop straight above the Volvo Trucks factory. Just to give them the finger XD

Yes, good observation. They doubled as air brakes when dive bombing.
