Apparently the big fairings allowed the landing gear to double as dive brakes when bombing, honestly kind of a clever idea.

@@lazyman556 yeah. The Saab engineers have always been clever with unique design concepts. Some might be considered quite odd, however they usually made perfectly sense within the intended context.

Great review as always! Thanks! I'm like you on this one, not my kind of plane typically, but actually really enjoyed it! Great value for the money, especially with the discount. Your Swedish accent was..so so, the Finnish one a bit better, but the pronunciation on "Tre Kronor" (symbol on the wings) was rather good! 😄

The B17A was powered by a license built P&W Twin Wasp. The C version had the Piaggio.

As already stated in the comments, the landing gear was designed to be used as an air brake for dive bombing. There was also a recon floatplane version in the later years of service (S 17 BS). B 17 = Bomber S 17 = Spaning (Swedish for recon)

Just bought this and flew it , very nice and very stable that even I can fly it . Plus the Cat can go in the back seat so can not create any havoc ......maybe lol .

Click-hold -and move mouse (not wheel) up and down makes it easer to open cowl flaps and bomb doors. =)
