In this video I have a quick look through the new Aethos models from Specialized, the Aurum Magma released by Alberto Contador and Ivan Basso, the Specialissima from Bianchi and the cheaper model 0 SL from Wilier. All these bikes fall into the lightweight all round category, but which has the most appeal???

Closest thing to Aethos in terms of geometry is indeed Giant TCR. VERY SIMILAR. Would be good to have a deeper comparison between these 2.

Terrific video-----you delve deeper than a Morian Dwarf! I have an Everti titanium at 7 kg and that's light enough for me.

Force ETAP user here. Been very happy with it, love having no wires or cables.

I second on that. In addition 1. prefer the switching logic, no wrong button even with winter gloves and 2. 46 ring fits better to my capabilities as old recreatinal cyclist.

Some friend told me the force actually performs better than the red on axs. The red got some issue on its big ring shifting

@@michaelk.920 With Di2 you can set up the buttons to match the SRAM shifting, (both left buttons for a lower gear, both right buttons for a higher gear and syncro shift for the front mech). Plus you can put a 11-40t cassette on the back - perfect for old recreational cyclists like us :). Plus it's cheaper, lighter, more aero and more efficient.

I think Specialised are smart to go into non-UCI approved bikes. They seem to the the first. Expect more big frame manufactures to do the same and we'll see much better pricing.

Been a long time Shimano guy. Just picked up a Checkpoint SL7 with eTap and love it. Like the intuitiveness of the shifting and the crisp shifting. Granted this is their Mullet group, but really like the eTap system.

The aethos is actually the lightest disc brake bike you can buy for all of its price brackets which makes it a very attractive option if you are a weight weenie.

Oddly enough I didn't feel inclined toward any of the bikes shown until the TCR was posted. That's an awesome bike, probably the best mid-level road bike ever made. Interesting the Shimano/SRAM debate; as a long time Campagnolo fan it's always a shame to see these types of review and to see no Campagnolo equipped bikes present. Maybe a video on Campag equipped bikes?

Not true! My dad eats burgers and panckas and sugar all the time and drinks Cola and soda exclusively, drinks 1 liter of coffee every day, he is 70 yo old this month. he never drunk water in his entire life. I eat organic vegetables, fruits , organic fish and take vitamins etc no alcohol no sugar , work out etc. yet he is in a better shape, and has a stronger stomach than I ever had. God bless him.

The Aethos to me looks like it was inspired by an old Specialized Allez (circa 2008) but with disc brakes. As for the eTap AXS groupsets, I wasn’t a huge fan of the original eTap 11spd, so it’s not really for me. But I’ve heard some opinions that the 1x Force system is quite beneficial though.

Giant TCR over any of those bikes (and I'm not a Giant fanboy). I wouldn't spend money on any Italian bike, they just don't seem to be able to design with carbon (witness the Wilier nubbin for instance).

My three years old Cannondale Synapse has that nubbin. And it's not that big as it is on the Willier. Their design team has definitely been a bit too lazy it seems. And oh yes. GIANT TCR for me too. 😉

I'm wondering if you could do a comparison at 4 endurance bikes, with speed and comfort being important factors. 1.Orbea Orca M25 Team Ultegra Di2 (good customization available on Orbea website) 2. Rose Reveal 6 Ultegra Di2 (i'm in the EU so Rose will deliver!) 3. Ribble Endurance SL R Disc Ultegra Di2 4. Cannondale Synapse Carbon Ultegra Di2 (only one colour available it seems and it ain't nice) Thanks for the comparison videos to date.

I would buy a Cannondale supersix 2018 Hi-Mod or a Caad 12 with sram red 10speed and some light wheels at half the price and then take the bike on a holiday with me with the left over money. This may turn out to be a bit if a flop for the brand🤷‍♂️

I can't say I wouldn't spend $8000 on a bicycle because I already have but mine is a custom geometry titanium frame built the way I wanted it, has the exact components I like which is Dura Ace 9170 and the Dura Ace carbon wheels. It has a titanium stem, bars, and seatpost. And some other bits and bobs of my choosing. It's not cheezy carbon that would only last a few years so my bike should last a life time. I can't understand why anyone would pay that kind of money for carbon and cheap paint jobs.

Not a fan of SRAM, but test rode a 2021 Trek with eTap. Two words... IT SUX. Why design a drive train that requires input from both levers? Its quick response is moot when it upshifts and you wanted to downshift.

Sram stuff has always felt uglier and more awkward than Shimano. Unfortunately, most of my bikes are fitted with SRAM groupsets; it'll do.

AXS is less efficient as well as mechnically build much worse. Would never buy Sram.

Specialized makes the lower end Atheos in crap colors... who wants a pink bike? or powder blue? Giant is almost always be best value. Plus Giant still makes a rim brake model... and ALL 3 GRAND TOURS WERE WON ON RIM BRAKES... AND ALL 3 BY SEPERATE TEAMS... AND THE BEST FUNDED TEAM IN PRO CYCLING WILL RIDE RIM BRAKES AGAIN IN 2021. #discbrakesareheavy
