Elegoo sent me this fun kit to check out.
It's an Arduino powered robot tank!
This unit has an interesting assortment of sensors, some motors, tank tracks so it can go pretty much anywhere, and it's even got an FPV camera!
The kit should be a good project for a budding tinkerer in the early teenage years and older.
Here is the product page with the links to the manual and lesson files: www.elegoo.com/en-ca/collecti...

This isn't the only way to do it.
It's probably not the best way to do it.
But it's how I did it.

Fun! 14 year old me would've loved this! Too bad early 70's tech wasn't quite as advanced as it is today. If these kits get any better, ADULT me might even want one! Thanks for the video! I'm drinking "Kentucky Bourbon Barrel Imperial Milk Stout" while watching this one. :)

Some time ago, I built and played with Elegoo's Robot Car kit and had a lot of fun with it. It's nice to see how this kit has evolved and made it even more fun and interesting for budding robot builders.

For the screws you might want to try white tack or blue tack it’s a poster adhesive that is removable without damaging the poster or wall

A friend of mine also has this kit. It works nice and i could copy the firmware of the esp and atmega so i can use my own arduino and espcam and motor driver chip to make the same robot without the special parts. I also put my ir sensor onto the esp cam so its range is nicer.

Why have I not thought of this before. I am most taken aback by the idea of using some sort of apron or catch all on the lap! How frustrating is is to drop a tiny screw or component and not find it for months! This robot is fascinating, the modules included are top notch items, and I now I am stopping myself from buying one... at least until I start a round of drinking adult beverages. Thanks Kent, what a great project!

Old trick that all jewellers know, they go a further and clip their apron to the bench. They also have what they call "bench skins" where a piece of leather sticks out from the bench and covers your lap. Good for catching diamonds and gold dust. I have seen people install trays that slide out (like the old keyboard trays) for catching small parts.

That's pretty cool ! 👍👍👍 Makes my collection of motors and gears and axials, etc. Redundant... One small point, Tracked Vehicles Don't have "idler wheels". They are Road Wheels. They have Suspension and Rubber Tyres. Road Wheels.

WOW, nice kit for $100. Good to see a robot in this class with such quality components. Seems they invested some time in the development. Beer fetcher?

Great implementation -- noticed in the images from Elegoo that Arduino is on top of the model -- I assume that they provide the option -- you choose to place the Arduino internally ??? External placement would probably helped with the remote control. I'm thinking this could be a nice Xmas gift for a rock crawler friend... Enjoy the video -- hello from Oshawa.

@pileofstuff 11 месяцев назад
I suspect that picture was just some marketing photographer's idea. The instructions show it going internally - and that's where there are standoffs to mount it.

Eventually I got happier with the video, but I thought the initial unboxing of dumping the parts out and the extremely limited work space was a considerably bad example for anyone. And that section of "pause the video to look at the instructions" I don't think can possibly be brought to readability on the screen. But you certainly have made me curious, as an 80 year old kid who has been thinking about a project that might run around my hard floored apartment.

I'm glad you stuck around long enough to become less frustrated. I also linked to the full instructions package in the description for anyone who wanted to read the entire thing.

There is. Pause the video @14:17 and you can see in the manual it's "option 3" on the remote. I didn't want to be on-camera to demonstrate it.

I have just got into 3d printing and wanted to make a tamked robot. Would this be a good donor kit for the electronics or would it be better to buy the electronics? I can code but i do that all day so would prefer something pre configured with the sensors so i can just design a shell.
@pileofstuff
@pileofstuff 11 месяцев назад
Either is a good approach. The only really proprietary thing is the motor driver shield, and even that uses common parts (just not in the convenient form factor). In the downloads I linked, there is even a set of STL files for the frame/body parts.

Hey man. I got this tank after seeing your video. Is there any way to add an RC transmitter/receiver to this? In the interest of simplicity, I was going to remove the lane tracking sensor and use the pins from that for the receiver from my Spektrum Dx6. I can't find *anything* on how to do this.
@pileofstuff
@pileofstuff 7 месяцев назад
There is a way to use standard DSM based RC receivers with this type of microcontroller. I haven't experimented with it yet, but James Bruton has: ru-vid.com/video/%D0%B2%D0%B8%D0%B4%D0%B5%D0%BE-5BfRg9CUMYI.html
