Fnirsi sent me their FNB48P USB Tester to take a look at.
It has a lot of interesting and useful features. I think I'm going to get a lot of use out of this thing.

This isn't the only way to do it.
It's probably not the best way to do it.
But it's how I did it.

I have the FNB58. If you put power into the micro USB at the top before doing power mode detection, it wont power off. The microusb on the top by the jog wheel is meant to power the device.

hey do you think FNB58 is much better to buy VS this one?

I've had this module for ages. And there's better for cheaper. I mean a different way to accomplish many of the same things. I still use it all thr time for fun though. The round rocker took me forever to get used to. I reccomend if found on sale. Great video:)

I love all the gadgets like this that have usb, network, and bluetooth connections for spitting out data because screen recording is often a lot easier than trying to show the device itself on camera. I just put a mic on the computer I'm receiving and sync the audio between that and my video and it's pretty easy to know that I'm in sync. This device is a bit out of my budget until I have a need for it, but it's very very cool and I appreciate you sharing.

I think the battery capacity calculation is based on the internal battery being 3.7 volts and being converted up to 5 volts. I think it is trying to calculate the efficiency and capacity based on that dc-dc conversion being part of the power bank.

Sorry second comment. This little is great for testing how good a usb cable is when plugged into a known source

It is neat, have the FNB48S version. Most use I will get is testing power banks and checking how noisy wall warts are (-:

For me, volts, amps and being able to change the PD mode are probably going to be 90% of my usage.

It's a local micro-brew. I doubt you can get it in other parts of Canada, let alone in the US.

Screen flip: 360° So it doesn't flip?
@johncoops6897

It uses an accelerometer, so it only flips if you rotate the device itself.

I wish there was a way to test usb 3.0 micro type B male to usb A male or usb c male. They are from my WD external drives. I wonder if external hard drives are all moving to usb-c connectors now though.
@derniwi7814
@derniwi7814 Год назад
You may just use your USB 3.0 micro cable, connect the A-port to the FNIRSI. It doesn't matter if you power your the tester using USB-A or USB-C for testing. USB-A usually should cut off at 900mA even if USB-C may deliver more power. But I'm not sure if I would store data during the testing to an used drive with maybe important data. During my first test with USB programming adapter (something like Arudino) I received some transmission and detection errors. So this tool seems to bee ok for testing the charging capabilities of a smart phone or a power bank, but for power consumption of USB storage I would not use a media where I have allready data stored. But just my 50 cent.

Hi. I've bought this tool. Initially I'd like to see the current power consumption of USB devices which does not always seems to work. However, is there a way to use this FNB48P for limiting the battery charging to 80% of the capacity? Thank you
@pileofstuff
@pileofstuff Год назад
I don't believe it has that ability. At least not automatically.

I bought the 58. The tester has a male usb-a plug. I plugged it into my dell inspiron 3668 which has 2 usb 3.0 ports on front panel. device says they're 2.0. can anyone try this? I could be using it wrong.

This device does not test the speed of the ports in. USB 2 or 3. This device tests the output power available from the ports. ie. QC 2 or 3, PD etc.

The .pdf manual is essentially useless. The website is likewise pathetic. How do you upgrade firmware from linux? Even if I used Windows, no way would I install software from some unknown CCP company. A tutorial that walks us through using it for usb port capabilities detection, then to other features would be useful.
