Taking a first look at the Hantek 6022BE USB Oscilloscope and installing drivers and software on a Windows 10 machine! This unit is fairly inexpensive but not really feature rich by consequence.

Thanks so much for making this. I have been on the fence about this scope. It was good to see it in action

It's good for a beginner to learn. I bought one last December and saw capacitors charging and discharging, used the same function generator to see triangle and square waves and do some measurements. I believe I only paid £40 for it though

Thanks for this video. I bought one of these recently as my first "real scope" (The nanoDSO doesn't count) and it's great to see someone that knows how to use a scope attempt to navigate the software... I get to learn two new things at once (because I barely know how to really use a scope). I figure for the cost ($100 AUD in 2023) is perfect for a My First Scope... then I can learn and justify buying a Rigol DS1054z.

Hantek 6022BE is a modular instrument, the port USBXI is used for concatenate other external instrument (eg: a signal generator) ;-)
@someguy4915
@someguy4915 2 года назад
Unfortunately Hantek seems to have never released anything for that and now even mention USBXI as abandoned on their website. The instrument that these DSOs were meant to be inserted into seems to have never reached production and its no surprise as the software for this single scope is already buggy, slow and very primitive so developing software for a combined instrument would be far outside of Hantek's abilities unfortunately.

Thanks for the look at it. I seriously gave thought to get a USB based scope a few years ago, though my reasons were different. I lived in a smaller house then and had a lot less workspace. What ended up stopping me was making sure I got a decent one that was Linux compatible and also the shared ground with the PC it's connected to was the next issue. I thought if I got one I would build an iso-USB interface if I could. I wonder if the bottom end noise is from the PC? I almost jumped on getting an Owan VDS1022I, Linux, or not but backed out at the last moment.

Pretty good bang for the buck there.. I have one looking for a 100+ MHz just because.. The dso5000series are good value as well. But they are glider to 350 than 80. So less advantage for the price. You can get 4 inputs plus ext plus signal generator. Incidentally the 6022 has a signal generator for trimming the prove..but you can't adjust it..so

I have the BL version of this scope. It has the digital inputs also. I have used the scope on some of my videos but find it to be very limited. However, if you want to be able to capture waveforms for videos I think it is just fine. BTW you don't have to go to the top menu to change time base or volts. The knobs at the right will do that to and on mine at least there is a dropdown right next to the knobs. Also I find that the Auto button saves a lot of mousing around and time. Biggest drawback is the lack of AC coupling.
@tonyfremont
@tonyfremont 3 года назад
No AC coupling at all? Or just none for trigger circuit? I really wish I could find something like this, with logic inputs and digital decoding. I need something durable and portable for use in an escape room. I need to look at i2c, spi and regular serial comms as well as the analog output from various sensors (Hall, capacitive touch, RFID readers, load cells, CdS light sensors, nrf2401 radio modules, etc). Long term data logging would be nice too.

@tonyfremont 3 года назад
@@timmturner yes, I actually have exactly that now. I'm not super impressed, but it basically works as it should, and it was cheap enough to not worry about it traveling in the toolbox. It works with Pulseview to decide digital streams from the analog capture; the adjustable digital conversion thresholds make it usable for decoding.
@tonyfremont

@T Turner btw, I'm drooling over a Rigol mso 5000. I just can't bring myself to follow through on the purchase. There's a portable/battery scope out that's pretty sweet too. Made by Micsig, the STO1104E is pretty nice for a portable tablet type scope. Check it out.

@@tonyfremont I will. I am pretty happy with the two scopes I have, one Tek 2221A and one LeCroy 9314L. Both were cheap. The LeCroy has a very steep learning curve though. I use the Hantek because it displays on the computer and makes videos easier.

USB scopes always look neat, but they have such huge limitations over something like a siglent sds 1202x-e that it often makes the useless. I have a hantek usb scope, and it is not even fast enough to capture a switch bounce, far less decode something like 100mhz communication signal.
@someguy4915
@someguy4915 2 года назад
The problem these Hantek units have for that is that they don't have hardware triggering, they just throw the data over USB and the software must then process it and determine where to trigger, which is significantly slower than hardware triggering. A switch bounce however can easily be caught by this scope by putting it in 'SINGLE' mode, so not sure why you couldn't get that to work.

I had this scope for a year or so. The hardware part works more or less fine, USB connection glitches sometimes and you have to reconnect it to the computer, resolution and bandwidth are reasonalble. But the main issue is the useless software: changing time scale sends your trigger point out of the screen bounds and you have to search for it manually, no way to easily navigate through the recorded waveform, no triggering algorithms like catch the n-th triggering point or a package - only edge, no waveform memory, and plenty more minor issues I can't remember now that alltogether make this scope barely usable. All of that is the bare minimum even on the cheapest keysight or tectronix, it's the 21st century, FFS! And the worst issue is that there's no better alternative software, even if you're ready to pay. So if you're looking for your first scope, don't be greedy - add a bit more cash and buy something more reliable.

You could always stick a USB isolator in between if you're nervous about destroying a pc, or a PCIe USB controller. You already have to be really careless or plain unlucky to damage your USB ports like that and if you do, you just throw out the 6-7 dollar PCIe USB controller for a new one. You could also hook it up to a laptop/phone or use an isolation module to have it floating.

I purchased a 6022BE product. Then I feel like a waste of money. It does not meet the standards of a technical device . Hardware . It is only capable of receiving + - 5Vdd . Signals larger than +- 5 Vdd will have amplitude distortion. Amplitude distortion is displayed on the screen. It does not achieve +-20V visibility like grid cell. Software . It's the dumbest show in the world. It has no drift mode. Like hospital electrocardiogram machines. When I want to research a long event . For example I set the timebas to 1000 seconds. Hanteck runs in the background and doesn't show anything. Until the scale is 1000 seconds, it will show up on the screen. For 1000 seconds, I couldn't see anything and went to wait for coffee. If the numbers reach explosive danger, then I don't know either. Because Hantek shows nothing on the screen. Hanteck should only install microphones for babies alo hello!
