Funny, that! But maybe it's because the right-wing client media is under too much pressure churning out noise than to bother with the effort it takes to create content with high production value. But then again I might be talking through my @$$... 😕
Proper mics (Rode) were used, but improperly set up (pointing downwards). Post-production noise-reduction further impacted the sound because the voice was not louder than the background noise. I have to agree about the annoying background music - it is not only annoying, in this case it threatens to overwhelm the speaker due to the poor voice quality. This is Audio 101 stuff, peeps! How about not following crappy RU-vid/TikTok trends, and add some proper professionalism? It's actually not that hard. Sorry for the snark, but this was highly annoying.
Back in the days when our taxes paid for infrastructure, the new tunnel would be free, we would have already paid for it! Now however, our taxes just pay the salaries, bonuses, pensions and other benefits of the multitude of staff on the gravy train.
Additional East London river crossings have been *desperately* needed for decades. However, crossings should have been constructed further east instead of funnelling even more traffic through the Greenwich peninsula. One of the biggest wasted opportunities was the bridge that Ken Livingstone had got all approved between Thamesmead and Beckton... that was immediately cancelled when Boris Johnson became mayor. Also: yay, more tolls! You've guaranteed my vote!
Just adding a crossing by Thamesmead would have been idiotic. The roads there aren't really big enough to support the levels of traffic that would use the crossing, and a locals only crossing would have been impossible.
"Ferry has constraints because of the nature of the operation" That tends to happen when your local authority aka government reduces the crews to skeleton levels and one ferry only
Paying a few pounds just to cross the river? The privatization of public spaces and infrastructure in London is alarming. I was already shocked when I learned twenty years ago that in Canary Wharf even the streets are private property. That should never happen in a democracy.
so is the original blackwall remaining open and the new one also, as the new one has two lanes of traffic doesn't seem a huge improvement on the two lanes currently at blackwall
The junction from this tunnel with the southbound A2 is possibly the worst conceived ever and will be a constant source of disruption because of nose-tail accidents. It was hidden or cut from the original video walk through.
Has Mr. Khan any real rival? The Tories have delivered yet another human hand grenade, in the shape of their candidate. The others had been very quiet as well.
That's what I don't understand - why build the tunnel there? It's right next to blackwall, and ferry aside, there's no crossing in outer east London. Fact is, alot of traffic uses blackwall as there's no other alternative. A new tunnel to carry the north /south circular would be hugely beneficial, and remove lots of traffic from chocked inner London. Sure, it'll help traffic flow, but Silvertown will lead to no reductions in traffic in the area, in fact it might increase it.
The Thames Gateway Bridge was supposed to be that answer linking North and South Circular Road, providing cross river bus services and possibly pedestrian and cycling options. Boris is a nutter for scrapping that idea and all he has given us is a Cable Car that is seen more as a tourist attraction than an actual reliable crossing. Fun fact Boris Johnson was the one who originally proposed for the Silvertown tunnel, all Sadiq Khan did was inherited his idea and made it his own. 😞 East London is cursed by connectivity. There is no way you can advertise an East London home to someone. Knowing you are better off living in Essex or elsewhere.
The question is simple does London need this transport link - the answer is also simple Yes - we get a lot of bitching from Conservatives about Khan , and I am no Labour supporter - but London needs good transport infrastructure and Khan is delivering and standing up for TfL unlike the Conservative Government who expected TfL to operate during the pandemic without support and the withheld funds to keep the infrastructure running as people work patterns have changed. London had a world class transport system, but this requires funds to keep it expanding so it can meet the goal of net zero.
It's not true that Transport for London gets unlimited funds. When Boris Johnson was Mayor of London, he agreed that TfL would be entirely funded by Londoners and no longer receive central government funding. That's why, when Central Government ordered people to stop using public transport, TfL quickly burned through it's cash reserves and had to be bailed out. Crossrail was opened 100 years after it was first planned because Central Government did not want to fund it. The Northern and Southern ends of the proposed Victoria Line were trimmed back, making the line much shorter than it should be. The Bakerloo Line Extension has been denied funding 32 times. Marylebone Station has an Underground Station that has not had the lifts replaced by an escalator upgrade. The rest of the country is screwed over more than London, but that's mostly because London has a massive population and when Central Government refuses to fund things, it's a lot easier to grab money from local Council Tax payers and fund things that way. What we need to do, in future, is move to a funding model that ensures that every city in the UK has a local transport authority with powers similar to Transport for London and all of these transport authorities are given funding to catch up to where London is...and also increase capacity in London transport too. The entire country deserves more investment in public transport projects.
@@4TheRecorddo you pay “vehicle excise duty” if your vehicle is not on the road? No? Then you can call it whatever you like but it is in reality a road tax.
To spend this much money and make 1 of the lanes for buses only, it's beyond comical. Was the demand for a direct bus from Beckton to Greenwich that much was it! 😂😂
They increase more capacity andnthen they induece demand by slapping on a toll. After the toll, people will avoid using the crossings... if they juat introduxed tolls now, it would have induced demand where they woukdnt need another tunnel.
2 lanes each way , one being a bus, so we are talking single car lanes with a roundabout at the north end. Yeah thats really gonna make a difference.. East side needs more crossings.
Why is there a need for that bloody music bad enough trying to listen to what they're saying over construction noise anyway , it ands nothing to a very good and informative video
Could that fellow in the tunnel speak English ? Noticed that Khan kept saying we as if he had any say in the project that had been planned long before he decided to destroy London.
@@DavidShepheard i agree people need to drive less. it's not just londoners that deserve it, everyone does. however what is being suggested is a two tier system where people with more money will drive and the rest will be consigned to public transport.
@@DavidShepheard and lets face it, one death in roughly ten million people isn't statistically significant. though obviously it is for friends and family.
If you can get from wherever you are to a nuclear bunker within 7 minutes and not knowing that its is coming as hypersonic missiles which travel at mach 10+ and are undetectable to radar and early warning systems all is good or it would be pointless in even trying , Some countries are way more advanced than the UK in nuclear weapons systems , plus the modern thing would be to detonate at sea and cause a huge tidal wave and wash away Britain leaving Britain a radioactive wasteland , so what would be the point in nuclear bunkers in the UK
@@Gfynbcyiokbg8710 you are dumb the people that pay the toll every time they go through it have to pay the toll and every one of them are TAXPAYERS want don’t you understand about that
Again when you drive through the tunnel you pay the toll with money from YOUR pocket so its you that pays the TOLL not KHAN you the taxpayer that’s who pays the TOLL what about that don’t you understand it’s you who pays the toll
First road project that wont lead to more traffic via induced demand. Same bull we've heard on every other road project. Idea it'll pay for itself is laughable - we all know that never happens
You could just do some very basic maths to prove that the new tunnel will pay for itself. 2bn divided by 100 000 (current daily traffic through Blackwall tunnel) = 20 000, then divide that by the expected toll of ~£4 = 500, then divide that by 365 = 13.7 So a £2bn tunnel would pay for itself in under 14 years.
It will like dartford crossing, then another country gets contract to run it, and although when built they said would stop charging once paid for (I'm told) they sell contract..poor
@@Gfynbcyiokbg8710 lol, sure, if there were no ongoing maintenance to worry about then yes, 'it pays for itself'. Have u seen the state of the black wall tunnel? Its just a matter of time. At least theres a payment mechanism in place this time
It's exactly the same size as the Arab Muslim Palestinian Civilians Military Army According to independent reporters and Independent Media 0:50 and it cost more than any other 0:56
We don't need more car infrastructure, all its gonna do is add more car jerounys, and make traffic much much worse. add more transit and use the tunnel for cycles instead
That's old thinking now - this is not the 1990's mate! There's two major transport issues to be considered - capacity (where rail is best suited) and connectivity (where road is best suited). It's time to end this childish partisan transport nonsense of 'either or' and adapt a more scientific and sophisticated approach to transport planning. In any case, how does your food get into the supermarkets? How do your electronic items arrive? How do your clothes arrive? How does furniture and building materials arrive? How do buses get around? How do tradesmen get around? How do municipal and emergency services get around? How do families operate? Oh, maybe we do need roads after all!
@@RedKnight-fn6jr Since youve decided to through the classic, irrelevant arguments here that have been disproven time and time again both on paper and in the real world via city planning, which yes london also has examples of i shall answer them so i hopefully neednt again "adapt a more scientific and sophisticated approach to transport planning." - Induced demand has been a remit of study since the late 50s, although back then under a different name, and is well known amongst urban planners, it is the most scientific augment for why road capacity projects such as this dont work and just waste tax payer money to fund politically motivated projects "In any case, how does your food get into the supermarkets? How do your electronic items arrive? How do your clothes arrive? How does furniture and building materials arrive? " Normally by lorry, then onto cargo bikes and vans, though logistics and budget may affect what companies use. They obviously drive on the road, which, less cars would help them as theyd be less traffic to delay them or plan around. Glad to see we agree here "How do buses get around?" Roads and bus lanes, as stated, the tunnel could be better used for transit only, that and/or a new DLR style line. Glad we agree there "How do tradesmen get around?" Cargo bike in the city, vans outside of. "How do municipal and emergency services get around?" Via said bus lanes, i hope it isnt news to you that emergency services are allowed on the bus lanes, and less cars means less traffic, which means less delays and quicker response times, every second counts after all! "How do families operate?" Hopefully together and happily? and a lot more affordably if they can ditch all the expenses of a car and save thousands with bikes and good transit, More money for little Timmy! "Oh, maybe we do need roads after all!" Never said we didnt, simply said that the car neednt be the dominant option any more, after all as you correctly identified "this is not the 1990's mate!" Hope this helps :) With love from your happy east anglian city planner
@gregchapman5556...in many countries happen the same ... they try to buy the people with promises or cheap things or food or ... bring people from outside to vote them because the own people doesn't vote them
